Ok the adult movies that come on late night on HBO/Showtime are they real porno movies? Or do they fake like they are having sex?

Some scenes look real, but no genital shots or penetration camera views and not cum shot scene, all internal climaxes.

Just trying to figure out are those stars porn star or soft core porn star?

These type of movies would be classified as soft core porn right?

please help me out on this one

There's a mixture. Most are 100% soft-core flicks. Lots of tease, no penetration or mouths on naughty places. A few are XXX titles that have been cleaned up to be soft-core, with soft-core scenes inserted for the dirty parts excluded.

They are classified as softcore, yes. I remember back in the late '80s, very early '90s the movies on Skinemax would show a woman's pubic region (though only from a "Playboy" standard, no close ups, etc.) but within a year or two they only showed movies that didn't. I remember one specifically called Wager of Love where the girl always kept a bikini bottom or her panties on, and during the "sex" scenes I think they only showed the couple from the waist up. Later on they would show the women nude but only from the side so you still never saw any hair or anything.

One time in college a friend and I were watching one of those movies and trying to figure out whether or not the man and woman were actually having sex even though it was only softcore. I didn't see how they could be positioned that close without him actually penetrating her. Of course now I know (like CL mentioned above) that sometimes these are hardcore films so there was penetration, you just don't see it.

Another easy way to spot a genuine softcore movie is they usually have much more emphasis on plot, story and the like. There's often far more lag time between the sex scenes than in hardcore.

Remember, though, that there hasn't been a softcore scene produced in about a decade. My cable package includes Showtime on Demand, which offers a bunch of "after hours" programs. Most of them feature a softened-up '90s pornstar, a pre-boob job August, and two smarmy actors who play their boyfriends talking about sexual rumors about their friends/co-workers/old college roommates, which segues into sex scenes that I vaguely remember watching when I sneaked to TV late at night during my pubescent years.

Softcore porn hasn't been shot in 10 years? Really? Then what has Robert Lombard been doing for the past decade?

Of course, softcore titles are still produced.

I must remember to tell my friends who shoot softcore that they haven't been working in 10 years and that the cheques they got for it do not exist.

Back in the ealry days of pay TV, late night adult features included many XXX features movies, which were, of course, heavy on plot and dialogue. The penises and insertions were edited out (and shots were clipped) but it was the real deal. I wish I could remember some of the titles but I cannot. I recall Veronica Hart, Lisa De leeuw and John Leslie as well as detective stories. I remember seeing repeated shots of the back of the woman's head during the "implied" oral sex. Remember, the sex scenes from the late 1970's and early 1980's were MUCH SHORTER than those today.

I recently re-watched one of my favorite early 1980's features called "Wanda Whips Wall Street" and this would have been perfect for one of these late night movies. Hell, the sex scenes in the released movie only lasted maybe four or five minutes. There was plenty of plot (sexual blackmail, corporate takeover, the valiant "detectives" trying to solve the case, a thin Ron Jeremy, and an unpredictable ending), comedy, clothing and just enough nudity to qualify for an adult title on late night cable.

To be honest, I'd rather watch the R-rated versions of classic movies of this era than, no offense, plastic-chested beauties faking their way through by-the-numbers Skinemax retreads that have become rather limp and lame (as have I).

Back in the early 80s cable was still kinda new to most people and before there was a large backlog of US movies shot specifically for "softcore" the used to be x-rated movies that they'd edit and play on CINEMAX and HBO. They also used to play a lot of Euro porn movies that sometimes had full penetration in them but were edited out. Some of the "softcore" Euro stuff didn't have full penetration but went a lot further than what was allowed on cable tv back then. I miss those days because they played a lot of cool stuff from other countries that I'll probably never see again.

In the late 80s and into the 90s the softcore stuff was mostly done by "Sream Queens" like Shannon Tweed and Julie Strain and various PLAYBOY and PENTHOUSE girls. Those girls would get nude but clearly weren't really having sex in their simulated sex scenes. In the last few years the only big name "Scream Queen" left was Misty Mundane who did lots of lesbian softcore stuff with her crew of girls that appeared in most of her movies. I personally never understood the Misty Mundane appeal but she sold and made a lot of movies during her career.

These days most of the softcore stuff on cable is done by pornstars and ex-pornstars (mostly contract girls). Because they're pornstars and because you can get away with a bit more these days their sex scenes look more real. They don't have any hangups about genitals actually touching.

I heard from a friend an actor who appears in those sort of films that during sex scenes they wear micro flesh colored bottoms. Anyway, this actor was mad that his female partner did not wear hers during the scene, because she liked him. He apparently said he'd never work with her again.

If you check the RAME FAQ, there is something about dueling cameras on some feature sets, i.e. one filming hardcore, the other filming softcore for cable and satellite tv consumpion, but it was written ages ago.

That's a classic right there lol.

I had some favorite stars from those softcore films.
I liked Amber newman a lot. I've seen Kaylani Lei in one of those softcore films as well.

That was probably during the early 80s (and before)when porn companies did feature movies for the hardcore videoes and the softcore stuff that would appear on cable channels and the ppv stuff for the Playboy channel. In the early days of the Playboy channel they never showed any sort of insertion. But from what I've heard the director would sometimes shoot the hardcore stuff first then shoot the soft stuff. Sometimes it was shot at the same time and was just a matter of changing camera angles or moving a leg to make the hardcore into softcore.

One of my biggest complaints about porn movies from the 70s and early 80s is that usually the sex scenes show actual insertion in about half the scene and half of it doesn't show anything and often looks simulated. In fact, there are times when it's obvious there's no penetration. Realistically, between the heavy story and dialogue and the simulated sex you only have a few minutes of actual hardcore footage on the screen.

This might have been the case many many years ago, as some have mentioned in this thread, but in the last 10 years can you name a single XXX title whose softcore version has played on Cinemax/HBO/Showtime? I sincerely doubt it. I heard that Digital playground was in talks with HBO (who owns Cinemax) about getting the softcore version of Pirates shown, but it didn't happen because HBO has a policy where they won't show the softcore version if a hardcore version exists.

My original post disappeared with the server malfunction, but I can assure you that the softcore channels in Europe broadcast plenty of softcore edits of hardcore movies. I had links and everything in the original post.

I don't have the list of all the skin flicks that have played on HBO/Skinamax/Showtime so I can't say for sure. But as of three years ago when I gave up my subscription to the Playboy Channel that is exactly what they were doing. They'd substitute a different angle or a face shot that didn't show any insertion instead of the tab-slot action.

I read an article in George magazine about the industry in which the author actually watched a porn shoot. He said after the money shot, they cleaned the girl off and then shot the softcore stuff. Makes sense, since you wouldn't need the guy to be hard if you're not seeing his unit anyway.

^It doesn't always work like that. In Whale Tail 4, David Lord (the director) talks about how they shoot the hardcore stuff, then they shoot the softcore angles while the couple are still fucking for real, and then come back and shoot the popshot. He says the softcore stuff looks more realistic that way. Makes sense.
