I have always wondered what ever happens to pornstars when they retire from the business. I know some end up in production or promotion or working in the internet business. Do many ever return to a normal life, get married, have a family, or just hang on to their past and strip and turn tricks?
I know Harry Reems went on to a successful career selling real estate in Aspen, but I am very curious about others. Does any one else know what has happened to other big stars? I seems the only ones you ever hear about are when they die or are in trouble with the law.

Male stars go to a farm where they are put out to stud. When they get too old for that they go to the glue factory...OR comeback and star in/direct feature porn.

Though it does somewhat seem like a ridiculous question, it's actually a sensible one, and one that I have wondered about myself. It's not so much what they do after they retire. I'm more curious about what goes on during the transition from living the pornstar life one day, and then going back to normal "civilian" life the next day, especially when everyone knows who you are. I can't imagine that they just get up one morning and easily transition back into "civilian" life. It must be more involved than that. Doing porn is like joining the Mafia. Once you're in it, you're in it for life, even if you leave.

I also assume that it depends on the individual pornstar. Girls and guys who are less recognizable, and who don't really have the stereotypical pornstar "look," might have an easier time going back into "normal" everyday life once they decide to leave porn. For instance, most of the younger amateur type girls who come into the business and do a few vanilla scenes can probably just go back to their normal pre-porn lives with no problems. Sure, some people may still recognize them. But it's not like they would get the same attention as someone like Shyla Styles or Jenna Jameson.

But again, I'm more curious about the girls who are easily recognizable; the ones who pay beaucoup money to get cosmetic surgery and tits the size of basketballs, and who perform scenes for very popular websites and movies. I can't see these girls living the porn life for about a year or two, and then deciding to leave and become a secretary. I just can't imagine my favorite retired girls like Gabriella Fox, Morgan Layne, Tyra Moore, Whitney Stevens, etc., all leaving porn to go work in an office somewhere. It's too farfetched. It would be like Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie deciding to leave Hollywood to become a nurse. It's just not realistic.

Although it's only speculation, I imagine that most of them never really leave the porn life behind, even if they're not performing. I assume most of them go into some other entertainment arena, whether it's dancing, escorting, or whatever. Shy Love, for instance, started operating her own agency. Some of the rest probably just end up in relationships with men, and go off somewhere with them. Some probably stick around Hollywood to start dating musicians, actors, and athletes. For instance, Gabriella Fox appeared nude in a music video for some rock group whose name I can't remember, which probably means that she's getting banged by rockstars now instead of pornstars. Whatever they do when they leave, the thing is that they'll still always be pornstars for the rest of their lives.

Those are Hollywood stars, worth millions. The notion of them leaving showbiz and getting regular jobs is ridiculous, and they just wouldn't do it because they don't need to.

Porn stars, as famous as they are for you and I, are not on the same level of mainstream recognisability or income (from that list, I seriously doubt I know anyone personally, who even knows who either Tyra Moore or Morgan Layne are), so the money they make over the course of their career (while they still look hot) would most likely not see them far beyond their porn retirement.

Often, they escort; fucking for money's no problem to them and the porn notoriety earns them far more than regular working girls.

Some do find regular mainstream jobs - Raylene was in Property (or 'Real Estate', as people don't say 'round my way) before that slumped and she had to return to porn. Proves that a "normal" career can happen though. I've met one ex male porn star who gave it up, and is now making a decent living in Freight Transport; porn career didn't hold him back in the least.

Another option is just live some kind of bohemian life and do whatever... A lot of people in porn aren't the regular 9-5 types to begin with, so I doubt it would hold far greater appeal afterwards.

I don't know about the people you know. But I simply don't believe that I'm the only guy I know who knows who these girls are. How many others actually admit to knowing who they are is a different story. But it's reasonable to say that these girls still probably receive their fair share of recognition in the outside world.

This sounds like a real-life version of Legally Blonde. Did these girls also send footage of themselves to the admissions boards who became impressed by their "talents?" In any case, if true, all the more reason that I need to hurry up and enroll.

I sometimes think about my retired favorite starlets about what they're doing in their lives right now.

I wish there was a way to find out or get in touch with them.

One of my all-time favorite is Keri Sable. I always wonder what she's doing these days or the last few years.

I, too, have thought about how my favorite porn actresses have lived since they have retired. I wish them all well.
If they choose to remain in the public eye, fine. If they choose to fade from view, and live anonymous lives, that's fine as well. I would like to see all of them invest their earnings wisely, enroll in college, have a successful career, and live a long life. Here's a good example: Claire Robbins

^Never heard of her. Not only that, but she's also a prime example of the "normal" girl look that I mentioned in my first post in this thread rather than the porno girl look. She's not the type who most would look at and recognize as a pornstar. For this reason, girls like her likely have an easier time leaving the business and going back into the "real world" without people harassing them about their porn pasts.

When you read the bios of some of the present pornstars, a few claim they are college graduates. I image they have the skills to make them employable after they retire. Tera Patrick I understand had a degree in nursing. I have a hard time seeing a a girl turning in a resume and listing her previous job as a pornstar and qualifications as I give great head and do anal. The way employers screen job seekers these days its pretty hard to hide your past.
If they are the lucky ones, maybe they marry an adoring sugar daddy fan and they're living the good life at a country club or spa and not needing to work.

IFAD lists Claire as active from 2004-2010 with 74 movies to her credit. Hardly sounds as retired unless she did porn to fund her schooling and just finished and is moving on with her life.

As many people living in this economy can now tell you, having a college degree has nothing to do with finding a job, even if you haven't done porn. In fact, maybe the poor economy and job market is another reason why some of these girls are going into porn in the first place.

It's all about the individual performer. I know of some girls from the 1990s and early 2000s have left the business and faded out of the public eye, and are having success either in marriage and/or other professions. Stars like Nikki Tyler, Jenteal, Racquel Darrian, and Annette Haven (to name a few) have left and as far as anyone knows have pretty normal lives. And their neighbors are not trying to run them out of town because of their past.

On the other hand, there are performers who appear to have difficult lives after porn. They make poor choices in partners and lifestyles (Janine), and sometimes have trouble finding a "civilian" who they can spend their after porn life with who can accept their past--so they go from guy to guy, and appear to have unstable lives and are financially insecure. These are typically the "comeback" girls, who every few years makes a porn video or two--because they need the money.

Bottom line: based on the limited amount of real info about porn afterlife, I'd have to say that being in porn doesn't mean you can't have a successful "second act" outside of the industry. It depends on the performer's personal maturity, financial resources, and the support system of friends they have around them after porn. Plus, they must be willing to totally cut all connections to the porn industry, and friends who are still in the biz.

Some of the porn stars that have retired I know that are doing well are:

Asia Carrera (Married but her husband died in an auto accident. Now raising her two children as a single mother.)
Misty Love (I have just heard that she joined the Army.)

I believe there is a documentary on this very subject due to be released in the fall called Last Exxxit.

Unfortunately, from what I've read and seen a lot of porn star have addictions to different types of drugs and alcohol which keeps them in the business to begin with. I'm sure there is a percentage of girls who do a few "light" films and are able to get out, but I can only imagine that the women who do leave are those who are blacklisted due to constant problems on sets (for whatever reasons) and wind up back to stripping and escorting.

I mean let's be realistic here. Women in porn statistically blow most of the money they make and don't save. Whether it's due to an addiction or a party lifestyle, there's an extremely small amount of ex-porn stars who are wealthy. Most porn stars only get paid per scene... If they've spent enough time doing porn, they've made the right connections, and a name for themselves then they may have somewhat of a better deal, but most of the time once a performer does a movie, the get paid that one time and never again for however many copies of that movie sells in forever. So in my opinion these performers (the women get paid more than men) are making good money, but not really great money. With this in mind it's no wonder it's hard for them to save. When you add the loss of revenue due to the free content on the Internet and economy on general, these women are probably only making a higher middle-class or middle-class income which a lot of us can agree means we still struggle to save.

I genuinely think you over-estimate the fame of porn girls who specifically aren't Jenna Jameson (or to a lesser degree, Tera Patrick).

Over the years, there have been thousands of people fuck on camera. The internet means that potentially, a lot of people would have seen them, but that is over a wide area. Over a localised area, if I said to somebody "Christ...! That Tyra Moore's fucking gorgeous!", I could more or less guarantee I'd be greeted with genuine blank stares followed by "Who...?"

Yes, people like porn. But there are thousands of porn "stars". Their efforts may be seen by somebody casually whilst surfing for something to wank to, but not remembered. We're NERDS on here - We think about porn more than most people (enough to assume fake names and collectively obsess about the length of porn dudes' cocks, the SECOND a girl takes her first anal etc). These aren't the concerns of most folk.

If you happen to love porn and have a favourite girl, she becomes a big deal in YOUR life. She'll probably get her fanship, but it'd more than likely be spread thin across the globe. In the examples you gave, I knew and liked Tyra Moore (not that anyone could genuinely say her impact on the porn world changed its face forever), but I hadn't even heard of Morgan Layne until that point, and I'm part of the porn-geek culture.

Unlike you, I knew Claire Robbins pictured above, but that's because I just happened upon her. She's more famous to me than Morgan Layne is. Most people wouldn't know either.

To get this back on topic, the challenge an ex-porn "star" seems to face is realistically, if out of all the people who don't recognise her, how would she be treated by the one person in 200 or so, that does?

You also have to keep in mind that a lot of these girls look fairly different when they aren't glammed up. A lot of women, pornstar and celebs who I think look exremely beautiful can look fairly average when they aren't made up with the make up, fake lashes, extentions and such. Also, I'm sometimes surprised to see what the porngirls look like in real life. A lot are much shorter than I'd thought and some girls who seem to have enormous breasts in the movies, when you see them in real life they don't appear as big. So I'd imagine if you saw most pornstars in real life and they aren't trying to call attention to themselves you probably wouldn't give them a second look. So I don't think being recognized would be that much of an issue for them.

As far as what they do...A lot of them are still goodloking women and goodlooking women seem to be able to do okay in life generally. Plenty of jobs where goodlooking can be an asset. Men with money like goodlooking women. Men in general go out of their way to help goodlooking women. As long as the girl isn't a total nutjob I'd bet they can usually do okay.

I found the Chayse Evans being a former Marine thing fascinating. She often talks about it in BTS. I believe it was the BTS to "Full Streams Ahead 2" where I first heard about it.

Her body is so rocking...she has one of the most fabulous pair of natural tits, and a beautiful face.

Please don't tease us like that. Please name names. It would be great to google them (if we know their real names), and find out if they are now lawyers.

A friend of my family went to Drexel Law, and while she most definitely is not a porn star, it would be fun to find out if she knew any.

Some remain in and around the business working behind the scenes
in various positions. I've seen some working as prop girls/guys or
set hands. Others working on makeup. Some become directors.

Some leave LA and return to places where they grew up
and/or move to places where the cost of living is cheaper and
lifestyle is slower. Also easier to avoid being recognized as
former pornstar especially if you have kids.

Some become escorts. Some find some old guy with money
to hook up with.

I didn't mention any names to avoid being edited.

part of the reason people choose to get into porn is the desire to entertain and be the center of attention. seems like that desire doesn't leave just because the sex has to stop. the lucky ones get to stay in some form of media, like christy canyons doing playboy radio on sirius. christy is still larger than life and was amazing to behold when i took chanel preston over to be a guest on the show monday. chanel killed it by the way. ;)

Friends -

Well, it's my understanding that if a porn star has at least five years, day for day, (not counting constructive time), total credited time in the porn industry, when they "retire" from porn they have to start taking mandatory distributions from their IRAs or 401Ks. And they have to keep paying their union dues. The distribution clock starts 90 days from their last documented anal.

I've seen the benefits package at JM Productions, it's top notch.

I know that Kimi Lixx went to college to be a phlebotomist. She should have finished by now, I hope she posts when she finds her first job in that field.

BTW, according to kink.com Dia Zerva was also a Marine before entering porn.

Semper Fi! I sort of did things backwards.
- Marine Corps
- BA English
- CA Broker's License
- Porn/Wrestling/BDSM

Talk about doing a lot of different things but I wouldn't change a thing. I was not sexually mature for what I love now in my early 20s. God, am I catching up!

Cheers
Dia

Nothing wrong with that. You (assuming you were in the military for 20 years) now have that nice pension to supplement your earnings as a performer along with those health benefits. That broker's license may also come in handy someday. It is always good to be prepared for whatever life may throw at you. Besides, Marine women in general tend to be good sex partners, boot camp makes them stronger and more fun to be with, making for good internet porn!

I guess the on topic question here is " What's next after your porn career ?"
