So, out of my list, I'd most recommend the following. 1) Roommates (Chuck Vincent, 1981) is one of the finest examples of an X rated film appropriating the style of a Hollywood mellowdrama. Outstanding acting on all parts and an intelligent script really make it a crucial film. Also notable for doing away with external cum-shots, much to the films benefit. 2) The Ecstasy Girls (Gary Graver, 1979) is a genuinely funny and romantic film which has a witty script, fine acting and cinematography. The film also features a surprisingly tasteful S & M themed scene which, unlike so many other X films, doesn't degrade the female character. 3) Nothing to Hide (Anthony Spinelli, 1981) as BlackSix said, it's rather unlikely for a striaght X film to be about the relationship between two men (though Spinelli's previous film, The Dancers, was about an all male dance troupe), but this is one of the most touching and well written (and acted) buddy films I've ever seen, X rated or otherwise. Despite two of the film's characters being somewhat slow; not really retarded, just slow, the film is not exploitative in any way. [Link] |

For my personal use, I was able to filter a few frames in which the dialogue set-up that situation, yet not eliminate the sex scene itself. Jenna's profile also contributes to this being a quintessential contemporary couples movie. I'd also suggest Bad Wives and The Awakening by PT. I'm actually tempted to suggest The Story of Joanna because it's dramatic, well acted and has excellent production values, but the sexual content might be a barrier for less 'adventurous' couples. The reason is twofold. First, the relationship between director (Mason) and star is intimate, exploratory, funny, anticipatory, etc., Considerable time is spent with conversations, Q&A, etc., between the two and a female-female relationship is forged. That definitely plays with the ladies (personal experience). As for the guys, a myriad of genres are explored from a visual standpoint - rough (g/g as well as b/g), interracial, big cock, blow bang, b&d, s&m, public exhibitionism and groping, running naked down an alley with a face covered with fifteen emissions and hearing the police sirens, etc., On top of that, Annette is simply stunning. I know this is not in the Wicked-cookie-cutter-feature mold, but it is couples friendly for those couples looking to get past features like Camp Cuddly Pines Powertool Massacre, Flashpoint and Lover's Lane (which are all top-notch, excellent couples friendly features that I also recommend for this list). Second, I would next explore Annette Schwarz is Slutwoman 2 for many of the same reasons I listed above. In particular, the first scene with Kimberly Kane, Annette Schwarz and Steve Holmes is about as close to porn perfection as exists in this world. Yes, it is a threesome and obviously, both members of the couple need to be comfortable with that fact...and all of the other perversities that exist in this incredible title. Pirates - This is as close to Hollywood as porn has ever been. Of the ten sex scenes, there are six b/g, 1 b/g/g and three g/g. There is no anal (which turns some folks off) but that doesn't detract from the story, the great special effects (yes, I said special effects in porn - don't believe me? How about sword-fighting skeletons?), the very good acting (yes, I said acting), the humor and the buffed, toned bodies in action sprinkled throughout this film. For me, the highlight was two g/g scenes - Jesse Jane and Carmen Luvana were smoking hot - fake breasts that don't move much and peroxide-soak blonde hair all over the scene. While I normally don't care for silicone or bleach-blonde's, they made it work. Also, the final scene between the redeemed Janine and Jesse Jane is simply outstanding. Belladonna's Fucking Girls 6 - There are so many GREAT titles shot by Belladonna and her husband that it is hard to choose just one. The reason I recommend this for couples viewing has to do with three reasons. First, at some point in their life, all women dream about being with another woman (even if this is something they never admit). Second, as a straight man I think I can speak for my brothers in arms and say that every straight guy would love to see his lady with another lady...or any two reasonably attractive ladies going at it...or frankly, any two female creatures even if it is outside the human species. Bottom line, guys like it when two hot chicks get together. The third reason I am recommending this title has to do with the BTS segment that Bella includes with her DVD's. They are so revealing and funny. In this title, each of the five scenes has it's own BTS. Penny Flame and Sammie Rhodes BTS for more than an hour in front of the same camera - not cuts, no editing - just the two of them plus Belladonna behind the camera (for most of the time) and occasional interactions with Mr. Belladonna. It's not to say that there haven't been some decent newer ones (in a subsequent post I mentioned both The Awakening and Bare Stage, both of which I feel are on par with the best of 70s/80s XXX. But those two, along with a few more, are really the only ones that hold a candle to the early films of Chuck Vincent, Anthony Spinelli, Gary Graver, etc. The problem I see even with the bigger budget features of today is their reliance on style over substance. Nic Andrews for instance makes decent low budget shoot-em-up movies with sex, but there's nothing there for the mind to grasp. Michael Ninn makes glassy MTV porn with only his big budget special effects to give him an edge. The films I listed all have one thing I don't see in modern porn: heart and soul. They aren't just cookie cuter porn stars fucking emotionlessly in between bouts of insighless dialouge but rather actors playing developed characters where, when the sex occurs, it has some raison d'etre. The sexual situations are realistic and varied. The actors kiss, smile, and talk to each other during sex (beyond “Fuck Me Harder!”) Both male leads are attractive. There’s no anal sex and no lesbian sex. The scene with Richard Pacheco and Tigr is particularly tender. Amanda By Night Studio: Caballero Director: Robert MacCallum Cast: Veronica Hart, Mai Lin, Jamie Gillis, Ron Jeremy, Don Fernando, Eric Edwards, Samantha Fox, Michael Morrison, Lisa De Leeuw, Jon Martin, Arcadia Lake, R. Bolla, Frank Hollowell, Herschel Savage, Pat Manning, Brooke West, Nicole Noir, Lee Carroll Veronica Hart, one of the finest actresses ever in porn, stars in this gripping murder mystery that you will actually watch to the end to see what happens. Don’t be scared off by Ron Jeremy as he appropriately plays a sleazy vice cop and only appears in two out of the ten sex scenes. The DVD presentation is lacking but the film is a must see, especially for couples. Moving on to more modern features… 5. Space Nuts Studio: Wicked Pictures Director: Jonathan Morgan Cast: Stormy Daniels, Jessica Drake, Devinn Lane, Steve Hatcher, Julian, Kyle Stone, Evan Stone, Randy Spears, Phyllisha Anne, Kim Chambers, Scott Styles, Katie Morgan, Trevor Zen, Casey Pink, Amber Rain, Kaylani Lei, Hollie Stevens You can’t go wrong with a comedy. Laughter is a powerful aphrodisiac. Wicked Pictures director Jonathan Morgan is the master of hardcore comedy. This big-budget, multi-award winning sci-fi parody combines three hours (two discs) of laughs with hot sex. Hercules is another Jonathan Morgan 2-disc epic that deserves to be on this list. Bliss Studio: VCA Pictures Director: Antonio Passolini Cast: Juli Ashton, Tina Tyler, Gina Ryder, Nikita, Chloe, Steve Hatcher, Tony Tedeschi, Joel Lawrence Antonio Passolini makes great movies. Bliss is one of his best. While Bliss is not the happy love story implied by the title, it’s an excellent movie about relationships. The dialog is well done. The actors remain in character during the sex scenes. Chloe’s crazy orgasms are the icing on the cake. Instructional DVDs can be more fun than they sound… 7. While the sex might be too rough for some viewers, any couples interested in BDSM should watch this movie. The two male leads (Rocco and Manuel Ferrara) are very attractive, the production values are high, the story is interesting, the imagery striking, and Belladonna’s dance sequence is the pinnacle of erotic dance. Beautifully presented on three DVDs, The Fashionistas provides hours and hours of eye candy. 10. Annette Schwarz is Slutwoman 1 and 2 Studio: Elegant Angel Director: Mason Cast: Annette Schwarz, Sandra Romain, Kimberly Kane, Manuel Ferrara, Steve Holmes, Michael Stefano, Brandon Iron, and a lot more guys.
