Hot new girls Whatever sex acts/fetish/theme a movie is about, the number 1 requirement is cute & fresh faces and tight new bodies. RLD is very good at that, you can't deny that they have access to some of the best new girls around and imho this explains a good part of their success. 2. More behind the scenes Performers arriving on the set, girls changing, jokes and socializing, shower after the scene is done, cell phone ringing, directors explaining what he wants... we want to see it all in the "behind the scenes" ! If someone is not into it or in a bad mood, it's also interesting to see it, it helps understanding what was going on during the scene. 3. Less guys per scene Like most hetero porn watching men, I watch porn for the girls, not for the male performers (sorry folks ;). Lately the tendency in gonzo has been to add more and more guys per girl. I really don't think that it's the right direction, I know people like DPs etc. (i have nothing against them myself) but when more than 80% of the frame is showing hairy man legs/asses something really wrong is going on ! If a director feel that the scene is not hot enough with the male talent they got, they need to find a BETTER talent, not just add 3 more guys to the scene to "make it hotter". Porn is like cooking: you won't improve a recipe by adding more of the less-costly ingredients (ie. the male performers) because it's the only thing you can afford. A meal needs to stay balanced to taste good. 4. Loose the fishnets I know this is porn and not a fashion show or mtv, but I'm REALLY tired of seeing cute 18 year old or 20-something girls dressed like street walkers from 1989. Most girls in porn dress better in the private life than what their sometimes not-so-inspired directors have them wearing ! Loose the fishnets and or other ridiculously unfashionable "made for porn" piece of clothes. Let the girls wear what they would normally wear when they're going out to a club, on a date or at the movies. On of the best example of this trend right now is the way girls are dressed in Mayhem/Kerkove features. The clothes are not even classy kink/fetish (Andrew Blake/Dita von Teese style) but they just scream "cheap 1985 mail order lingerie catalog" (no offence meant, just voicing my opinion here... but it's a major turn off for me). The bottom line is: in real life a girl is a hundred times more capable of choosing what to wear than a 40-something male porn director ;) 5. Longer interviews before the scene starts For me this really adds a lot to the scene. It's nice to watch the girls have this little chat with the director, you sometimes find out they have a great sense of humor, or you get to have a sneak peek at their personalities before the scene stars... or at least you can watch the way the girl reacts. Vince Vouyer does that really, really well. He jokes with girls, make them feel comfortable, it's a delight to watch. When watching a dvd, I often find myself going back to these pre-scene segments, because it's where the girls look the best, and the teasing/joking that goes on is sometimes a much bigger turn on than most of the pounding going on during the actual scene. Girls stripping/teasing with cheap background music is no way near enough to introduce a scene... directors have got to make the girls talk (and not the "i like it in the ass/i'm so horny/i want dick now" old song, an actual conversation would be appreciated). It's all about interaction between the director and the performers. 6. Keep it intense I know it's not everybody's taste but i like the so-called "rough sex" trend that has been going on in gonzo during the past 2-3 years. Face slapping, control, choking, degradation, messy facials... it's all hot stuff as far as i'm concerned. 7. Less edits If I remember correctly, Seymour Butts motto is something like "The less edits the better" and I think he's 100% right. When a performer is doing something wrong, wants a break, is laughing because something funny is happening or doesn't feel comfortable... i want to see it. Don't edit that out ! It's a bigger turn on to be able to witness it than having just 2 more minutes of sex. I'm frustrated with the way feature are edited now: you feel something is happening, you know the girl or the director is going to say something... and that part is always edited out ! Listening to the director giving instruction and the performer talking during the scene is definitely a turn on. 8. More of a setup. They are in cool European cities, show some street scenes, don't start off on a couch for five straight scenes. I don't care that the setup is fake. If its done well, it adds to the buildup. I just watched a PXP flick, Supersluts, I dug how the girls flashed on the streets of Budapest and even did a BJ in a park with people walking by. 2.) Dress the girls more classy and show the clothes coming off slowly (a la buttman's videos). I love the buildup, it doesn't work as well for me when the girl is fully clothed then they cut to her being naked withoug seeing the clothes come off (one of my beefs with Private and Woodman videos). 3.) More variety of settings, offices, locker rooms. Private does this well. Put some effort in it, don't use the couch in the house for every scene. 4.) Agree about finding more out about the girl. But would prefer some more intelligent questions than the standard ones (how old are you, when did you first have sex). Those little interviews really show you who has some brains (Stagliano) and who doesn't. 5.) Make sure the girl gets totally nude. I don't enjoy as much when the panties are pulled to the side but still on. 6.) Less violence, I don't enjoy the spitting and choking. I like it hard but without any violent overtones. 7.) IMHO that's exactly the weakest point of their proposal. Comebacks from veterans that didn't do any shoot in years are much much more interesting. The cheap guys are the almost always limp ones. Once again I can't agree with this recommandation of yours. I think there are still too many one-on-ones in nowadays gonzo porn. One-on-one sex is something that almost everyone can have in their everyday lives (at least with an hooker). I think that the directors had been catering the American public tastes for too long. For years and years I had to watch stuff like "high school uniforms" or "college uniforms" that to me, as a Continental European, are absolutely meaningless since here no sort of uniform is required at any school level. I'm fully aware that what works for me may not work for other people. As you said there a market for everything The other goal for me would also be to bring the message to performers and directors that every detail counts. Of course, directors may not have the time/money/interest to care about everything (porn should be about delivering the best product you can with whatever limited resources you have right ?), but i think better results are achieved when directors are fully aware of the choices they make.
