Why? You can't fathom that people may have different parameters than you? :) For some, she would not even be considered because she has stuck with G/G and Oral for the most part... just a small handful of vaginal scenes. There are many, including myself, who think "best anything" should have a much more diverse body of work; even as a newcomer. For example, Holly Hendrix has had a showcase, done anal, DP, double anal, and has been a much higher level performer. THis isn't just about "who one thinks is the best or hottest looking". There are quite a few that can be winners and legitimate choices, even if they are not yours. Edited by - A_Fan on 10/11/2016 1:57:54 AM

Of course everyone can have their own opinion. But you need to do your homework on the Lana scenes. She's done at least 20 hardcore boy/girl scenes. And past winners have not all fallen into your parameters. Edited by - rondoe99 on 10/11/2016 2:49:26 AM

You clearly didn't understand my real point. Which was, people have different ideas and an award is not some disgrace because "your choice" didn't get picked. My parameters are different than his or yours that doesn't mean either is wrong; nor does it make an award no longer legitimate (however you measure that), because people don't use the same criteria. PS - I was not saying my parameters compared to past winners. . I gave MINE to make a point that everyone is different to some degree in what they feel it should be/ There will be many on a nomination list that can win and be legitimate. Maybe you or someone else won't like it' that doesn't make it an outrage. Lana for example, I wouldn't even put her in a top 5 (that is just me, nobody else); which is likely why I am not as deeply knowledgeable about her. I just wanted to call out someone who makes this statement that an award is essentially useless if his choice isn't picked. Thank you Edited by - A_Fan on 10/11/2016 4:05:54 AM Edited by - A_Fan on 10/11/2016 4:07:34 AM
The category is Best New Starlet NOT Most popular starlet

Yes, this is a place of different opinions, which is good, not bad. My opinion is that Best New Starlet means the girl who burst onto the scene and created the most excitement with her performances. To demand that a Best New Starlet has done double anal, 100 man gang bangs, etc seems to defeat the point. She's Best NEW Starlet. And to say Lana has stuck to g/g and bjs, with a few vaginal sex scenes is completely wrong. How many of the other nominees have filmed 50 scenes in 2016? I honestly don't know. But that seems like a lot to me. And to the argument about it being Best new starlet and not Most Popular new starlet, I would argue that the main goal of most stars is fame and success. I understand quality of performance matters. To me, they go hand in hand. It's a combination of attractiveness and attitude that will lead to a girl's popularity. To me, Lana's performances rank up there with most of the all time best performers in their first years. Edited by - rondoe99 on 10/11/2016 1:49:10 PM

I think you still miss my point. My comment was not to discuss criteria (we all will be different and will never agree 100%). My point, and I will try to rephrase it... was in response to someone saying that an award is not legitimate unless his specific pick wins. I was simply trying to explain that people are different, view it differently, and if the voters use different criteria and Lana does not win, the actual winner would still be a legitimate and deserving recipient.

It's not my opinion that she's made a bigger splash in porn than any other performer. I think the stats and her demand speak for themselves. Sure all of us have our specific favorites, but this award is supposed to speak for the entire audience. The fact that you have your own favorite and I have mine is irrelevant. In sports you don't vote for the MVP based on who's your favorite. You vote based on the statistical facts. Your personal favorite is different.
Most of the women in that list have filmed more than 50 scenes this year. I wouldn't be surprised if all of them have. To be honest, I wouldn't be that surprised if Lana has shot the least amount of scenes of all the women on that list.
^"To be considered in any of the video categories a title or scene must have been made available commercially during the eligibility period, which runs from October 1, 2015, to September 30, 2016." If a model filmed a lot of scenes but they haven't been released yet, then that of course would impact what is eligible for consideration. In Lana Rhoades case, 26 content scenes were released from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016. I don't know why you keep going in directions I am not discussing. Clearly you are just not interested and that is fine. My point again, is response to a statement saying the award is not legitimate unless his choice wins. There are many women who are worthy recipients; and everyones individual tastes fuel that (hence why I gave mine). The entire audience will not agree that Lana or someone else is Best New Starlet (I would pick someone else and would other people too) if enough do agree , she wins. If not, she doesn't . That doesn't mean the award is some sort of farce because your favorite doesn't win (which is what I am responding to). There are not stats to measure best this or that in porn. If you ask 100 people to define how they come up with their choice, you will get 100 different answers that converge over several performers. I know you won't catch my point, so let's just wrap it up at that. Thank you Edited by - A_Fan on 10/11/2016 10:57:29 PM

I only want someone to clear me as to who exactly is considered a newcomer. Because If we go by the OP's list a lot of them in that list have been performing scenes from the start of 2015. So how does the AVN compare their impact to the impact of the ones who debuted in 2016 like for example Lana Rhoades, Alex Grey or Kylie Page? Any body has even a hint of the criteria that they use while judging this category?
^Most of the women mentioned in the list started performing towards the end of 2015. See below Alex Grey (First scene released in 12/2015) Jo Jo Kiss (First scene released in 7/2015) Kimmy Granger (First scene released in 7/2015) Amara Romani (First scene released in 11/2015) Melissa Moore (First scene released in 8/2015) Tiffany Watson (First scene release in 12/2015) Holly Hendrix (First scene released in 12/2015) Anya Olsen (First scene released in 2/2016) Gina Valentina (First scene released in 11/2015) Lana Rhoades (First scene released in 5/2016) Leah Gotti (First scene released in 12/2015) Angel Smalls (First scene released in 8/2015) Sydney Cole (First scene released in 4/2015) Kristen Scott (First scene released in 4/2016) Elsa Jean (First scene released in 7/2015) Source: data18.com After looking at the number of scenes for the above mentioned girls, Elsa Jean seems to have had the most scenes released during the eligibility (10/1/2015 to 9/30/2016) period. She might the girl who gets it.
^^ I believe that the official cutoff is 2 years from your first scene, to account for a performer that shoots something like an FTV scene but then doesn't show up in mainstream scenes for a few months afterwards.

One secure way to define popularity, is to look at the amount of followers. Me I don't give a fuck about popularity. I choose greatness. And to define greatness, I'll be 100 % subjective. I don't care if the person is popular, I just judge it upon the taste the person will leave in my mouth. Bad taste = not great person. Good taste = possibly great person. Some pornstar will never get me a good taste in mouth, and to watch them getting blow jobs, I don't think that's a top priority, so me I won't buy movies with them in it. That's about my number one rule hanging around in the search for some new purchase. And that's why I'm deeply shocked by people on this forum claiming they have no interest in the male part. That's like throwing own preferences away, and surrender to everything, watching Steven French and Tony T. all day long.
Goodness, Alex Grey, Kimmy Granger and Gina Valentina are all quite good. But I have to go with Alex Grey, that kid blew me away her scenes have so much energy. She's gonna be a superstar.

How about Lily Rader? Kimmy Granger seems more popular and would be an understandable choice. But Lily Rader also has that x-factor. Angel Smalls is also worth considering.
Nominations are going to be announced in a few hours. They also announced the XBiz nominees last night: Alex Grey Anna Bell Peaks Anya Olsen Gina Valentina Goldie Rush Holly Hendrix Kate England Kimmy Granger Kira Noir Lana Rhoades Leah Gotti Liza Rowe Lyra Law Melissa Moore Sophia Leone I'm happy Anna Bell made the list, as everyone tends to focus a bit too much on the younger performers when it comes to BNS. There's one or two performers I wish were nominated, but none that shocked me by not being there.
And the nominations are out: Best New Starlet Kimmy Granger Alex Grey Holly Hendrix Elsa Jean Jojo Kiss Katy Kiss Lyra Law Melissa Moore Kira Noir Anya Olsen Gia Paige Piper Perri Adria Rae Lana Rhoades Gina Valentina No Leah is kind of a surprise even though she's retired, Piper being there is kind of a bigger surprise for me since she's just on the cusp of being eligible so I thought they'd pass over her. Glad they didn't.

So people were right about it being an extended duration. Nice to see my favorite Lana Rhoades get nomination in both Xbiz and AVN but really surprised to Kylie Page not being nominated for even a single category in both XBIZ and AVN. Just goes to show if you are vying for awards you need to do more DVD stuffs rather than just subscription sites stuff. Kylie hardly did any DVDs.
I would like to see Kimmy Granger get the new starlet award. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it went to Holly Hendrix. She is the only one that I believe had a showcase.
I think this is the most easy award to guess: Holly Hendrix. She did it all in 2016 and even got a showcase film.

Since Leah Gotti didn't get nominated, my vote goes to Elsa Jean. She always has a big smile on her face. Lana Rhoades will probably win but her fans are too damn creepy. Edited by - bacon cheesesteak on 11/18/2016 8:58:19 AM

Not the "big" awards. but Skin Diamond did win these: 2013 XBIZ Award: Best Supporting Actress - Skin Diamond, Revenge of the Petites. 2014 AVN Awards: Best Oral Sex Scene and Best Double Penetration Sex Scene for Skin. 2015 AVN Awards: Nominated-Best All-Girl Group Sex Scene 2015 AVN Awards: Nominated-Best Anal Sex Scene (Rocco's Coming in America 2015 AVN Awards: Nominated-Best Double Penetration Sex Scene 2015 AVN Awards: Nominated-Best Supporting Actress (The Doctor Whore Porn Parody
I don't understand how they pick the nominees. XBiz had Elsa nominated for Best New Starlet last year and AVN has her this year. AVN had Kate nominated for Best New Starlet last year and XBiz has her this year. IMO, AVN has it right in both cases.
At first glance many of those girls seem more like established stars than newcomers to me, but that may be a byproduct of how fast careers in porn can zoom by. Come to think of it I can't really name any other field where someone is basically a "seasoned veteran" after a single year.
This list makes me feel so out of touch. I'm familiar with Holly Hendrix, Melissa Moore, Kira Noir and Gina Valentina. There's really no one on the list, though, that has compelled me much, for whatever reason. Maybe I'm missing something ... But I really would not know who to pick. Holly, I guess, because she is super-intense? Where is Blair Williams? Thought she'd be a shoo-in? Or Kimberly Chi -- so, so nasty! Oh well ... Must be getting too old for this game.
^ An interesting thing to note is that while Blair didn't make it onto this list, two of the male performers from Sex Factor made it onto the Best Male Newcomer list (Donnie Rock and Buddy Hollywood).

Piper Perri is my personal favorite of all the girls nominated, but I'm not sure she has a shot to win. Unlike Performer of the Year, where I see four clear cut favorites, I don't really have a feel for which girls on this list have a legit shot at winning. Holly Hendrix is the only girl on the list who I can point to and say, "Okay, she has a real shot at winning this." Looking at the list again, I can also "see" these five girls winning it: Alex Grey, Kimmy Granger, Elsa Jean, Melissa Moore and Lana Rhoades.
Does the list of starlets reinforce the increased volume of scenes out there that seem to peddle in fake pedophilia? Seems like there's an awful lot of "barely legal" and taboo-themed web stuff these days. Some of it really polished and not extreme or anything. I don't necessarily mean the Max/Facial Abuse knockoffs. Not my interest, but perhaps there's some trend going on and that is boosting the popularity of these gals?

I have hardly watched any of the porn of the performers in this list besides Lana Rhoades, Tiffany Watson and some of Melissa Moore specially because most of them are small chested, thus its not for me to comment on their performances. Which brings me to my next point, I just skimmed through the list and saw that there is very few ample bosomed ladies in the nominations list. Did no good ample bosomed ladies debut in 2015-2016 who warranted a nomination? Take for example Blair Williams, Kenzie Taylor. I have not followed the AVN Awards before, is this some kind of a trend? Or like @skronker is trying to point out above is it because of the new trend of the increased popularity in "teenage" themed porn? (To be honest even Lana, Tiffany and Melissa quite belong to that "teenagy look" category). Can some one tell me there was no good MILF performer that debuted during that last year? Something that really needs to be pondered on by AVN Edited by - sonofharpy on 11/23/2016 7:31:53 AM
I just caught onto Leah Gotti and she was definitely my choice, but now you guys are saying she's done...dammit. anyway. Outside of her Elsa Jean. I'm all about Elsa Jean. Except for the XBiz award. Anna Bell Peaks is who i'm riding for. ----Dread's Twitter----
My personal favorite is Kimmy Granger. There's nothing fake or phony about her performance. She comes across as a girl who genuinely enjoys being a performer. She has good chemistry with everyone. I don't recall her ever having a mediocre or bad scene. I think it will be between her and Holly Hendrix. I'm not a fan of Holly Hendrix. Largely because she seems to be an anal only performer. However, she really seems to be a hard worker and gives her all.
This years group is definitely superior to last years crop for Best New Starlet. For me, Melissa Moore is " can't miss " pick. Followed closely by Alex Grey, Kimmy Granger and Elsa Jean. I know Lana Rhoades is extremely popular but I think " insiders " are going to leave her left out in the cold. Unlike last year, there are many talented young ladies in the running but, I had to make a choice so, there you have it: Melissa Moore. Edited by - Uncle Gibby on 12/3/2016 6:15:47 PM

Actually I do not really like to compare women in general, let alone adult actresses. Each one has her own unique charm and sexual personality and it is somewhat unfair to measure it against another. Plus each one has devoted fans who follow her and believe in social media. Beyond that it is really difficult to evaluate a performer if you haven't seen a significant amount of specimens of all the nominated girls. And realistically this is almost impossible if you are not a professional adult reviewer. Personally I have checked out many of them like Kimmy Granger Alex Grey Holly Hendrix Anya Olsen Leah Gotti Kate England and of course Lana Rhoades I need also to check the rest Melissa Moore and Kira Noir PS. Anya Olsen is an excellent performer. In my opinion is among the three top new starlets. I would have expected more recognition for her work here. One more performer which is rising fast in my attention is Elena Koshka. Meanwhile... Explore Sexuality!
The 2017 XBIZ Awards was recently held and Lana Rhoades won Best New Starlet. The AVN awards will be held on Saturday (1/21/2017). The nominees for Best New Starlet are: Best New Starlet Kimmy Granger Alex Grey Holly Hendrix Elsa Jean Jojo Kiss Katy Kiss Lyra Law Melissa Moore Kira Noir Anya Olsen Gia Paige Piper Perri Adria Rae Lana Rhoades Gina Valentina I think Kimmy Granger is the best new starlet out of these names. Who do you think is deserving? P.S. Fan can vote for hottest newcomer at https://avn.com/awards/voting/hottest-newcomer

As we review our nominated performers again, I am just awestruck at how many absolute A-list girls have emerged out of this year's crop of new starlets!
I thought that her short absence (and the reasons behind it) would hurt Lana, but it doesn't seem to have for Xbiz, so I don't think it will for AVN as well. If I were a betting man, she'd definitely be the front-runner now.

I just realized that while I seem to have made atleast 4 comments in this thread I actually did not made a prediction after the nominee list was posted...lol But ya I feel that Lana Rhoades will win it.
