Cherie DeVille apparently won Performer of the Year (good for her!) but I'm confused as there was no such category for the 2023 nominees announcement list. Reagan Foxx won MILF Performer of the Year and Vanna Bardot won Female Performer of the Year. So is "Performer of the Year" an additional category that was decided to be randomly awarded? (This is the REAL best performer?) Seems confusing and while the intention was meant to be good somewhat takes away the accomplishment of those other women... Or did someone from XBIZ not agree with the winners (fans voted on) and decided to make a new category to recognize Cherie; a hardworking performer who is also a good ambassador for the industry so they can pat themselves on the back? If XBIZ had leftover funds to make an extra trophy, wouldn't it have made more sense to split Best New Performer? The women are the main stars and it's a safe bet that if men & women are nominated in the same category to compete against each other, voters (primarily men) will pick a woman (they like) to win the award. Though anyone who knows anything about the industry will tell you good male talent are harder to find and in much higher demand so missed opportunity to show recognition to a promising male newcomer. XBIZ likes to talk big but when the award show finally happened it felt like a bit of a dud. No live tweeting of winners (why bother having a Twitter account with over 1 million followers then?), no livestream (there was an unofficial Twitch stream and some tweets by people in attendance) and XBIZ didn't finally put out a press release of winners for the public to officially know until noon (all employees too busy partying or hungover to do it ASAP?) No award show is perfect and both organizations have their flaws but it's hard to take XBIZ seriously and not see them as AVN's little brother crying for attention. If anyone from XBIZ reads this hopefully the 2024 event isn't so isolated; if no livestream then having one sober employee tweet winners in real-time isn't too much to ask is it? You might also consider trying to host your event earlier than AVN so they don't take the wind out of your sails when your event occurs after them.
And while on one hand having new categories expanded or created allows for more individuals and companies to be recognized, it's also somewhat disrespectful to many who never got nominated (or won) in past events during a more competitive era of fewer nominees per category and categories overall (plus the arguably better overall talent pool which has since become watered down)
XBIZ doesn't even have their own Hall of Fame (safe bet it will happen down the line) and AVN looks to be slacking on their own eligibility requirements for their own Hall of Fame. Sasha Grey (great as she was) was inducted but wasn't even active for 10 years which last I read was the minimum requirement to even be considered... Guess rules are changing to prepare for a future of shorter careers (shoot for companies for a couple years then bail to do OnlyFans once a large fanbase is built) or AVN voters are getting lazy at their jobs and don't even do proper research anymore. Once again showing disrespect to plenty of vets still waiting to be inducted who should already be in under the original criteria. [Link] |
