The latest electronic buzz seems to be the potentially revolutionary realm of 3-D entertainment. Can you possibly imagine watching a sex scene (while donning 3-D glasses) featuring your favorite pornstar on your huge 1080p, 3-D format HDTV monitor? How cool would that be? If you think you're a porn junkie now, just wait until this thing hits? I think it would be safe to say that the porn industry slump would effectively end, once this technology takes hold. Anyone know of any adult DVD production companies looking to capitalize on this? I understand that producing 3-D material is very expensive and therefore might be cost prohibitive for many studios. Anyone have any information to share on the subject? (General comments also welcome)
Anything that requires me to get another loan to pay for it ain't happenin' in my house. 2D pics of naked women will have to do until better tech is dirt cheap.
This is what you can expect - need to cross eyes to see the effect. http://www.3d-eros.com/samples/g-ryoko-asuka/ryoko-asuka-019.jpg Loads more here http://www.3d-eros.com/gallery-e.html
I think 3D will breathe new life into porn. Especially POV porn. I'm looking forward to it. Interactive features, though? For example: speak aloud, "Show me your ass" or "Let's do doggy style" etc and the woman does it... well... that will probably be possible but that's years or decades away.
I don't know about anyone else, but not looking forward to 3D Porn. The only viable time i could see would be POV scenes, but even then it doesn't interest me at all. ----Dread----

3-D has been done before (in 1970's in 1990's) and it never took off like its mainstream sibling. Unless you can view 3-D (and it has been developped) without having to don special glasses and not have headaches over it (let alone the price you will have to pay, at at the initial stages), it wil always be a gimmick. It is tought to fool the eye with 3-D effects.
I've seen a couple of recent movies that used 3D techology and I find that the best shots were those that involved outdoor scenery. That's not ususally what you get in porn movies and I can't imagine that it's cheap to produce. Therefore it makes the investment nearly useless to porn studios. Which studio is going to spend extra money to produce material that most people don't care about and those that do can't afford the equipment to see it. Not too mention but I read last week that 3D televisions still have some major bugs in them.

It took quite a while before the porn industry was able to release its movies on Blu-ray, as Sony was reluctant to hand over the technology to the porn industry. It (blu ray) still has not taken off in a big way (most video stores in my area hardly carry blu-ray porn titles) and already we are talking about 3-D. Most porn scenes (especially the gonzo and plot-driven features) are shot indoors and for 3-D effects you need very brightly lit sets/surroundings. The result will always look dark (outer ridges of the frame will look fuzzy, and you myst keep body and camera movements somewhat muted), whereas audience prefers to see all the action and all the naughty parts clearly and well lit. And I am sure the technology will not be cheap to either shoot it or to manufacture/distribute it.
It will be getting really interesting when someone come up with an interactive fleshlight. I mean with Wii that would be a possibility without adoubt. The fleshlight can feel your arousal and when you ejacualate so for 3D POV porn it would be insanely hot not to forget voice activation aswell.
There already is something similar to that called the RealTouch which mimics the action of screen, but it isn't really interactive. There have also been attempts at interactivity but those have been flawed to say the least. If by 3D you mean virtual so no real people, then I think that's too niche to sell good enough since most people would prefer films of real people. But with real recordings of people you can't really have the interactive aspect.
The current technology used in theaters (and soon in tvs) suffer from several serious problems IMO. 1) Light output is halved when using glasses. The picture appears much more washed out. Until you have extreme amounts of brightness and contrast this will be an issue and just make it look less appealing. 2) Glasses. Simply a pain, and not something you'd wear at all times. So that means you'd have to enable/disable 3d mode depending on whats going on around you (and other people watching would be similarly annoyed by switching modes). 3) Frames per second. Film has been stuck at 24 fps since the 1920s. It is embarrassing that we haven't moved on, and the choppiness is even worse in 3d mode. It was a major distraction for the first 15 minutes of Avatar for me. Unless Hollywood get their heads out of their asses and improve theaters, and directors starting using higher frame rates, 3d will look much less natural and smooth than it should. I found a box of 3-D glasses behind a building one day. I put them on and everything looked different to me. When I looked at a billboard advertisement with the glasses off, it said "Come to the Bahamas", but when I put on the glasses, it said "marry and reproduce" in generic style letters. Some fucking lizard looking man reading a magazine looked at me and said "what's your problem?"....that was enough for me. I took off the glasses, but had a massive headache for the next hour. Fuck 3-D!
I meant filmed sequences but built up like the interactive titles today but with 3D, voiceactivation and a fleshlight with an USB interface... Its probably the clocest to virtual reality sex style we are gonna have for the next couple of years.
Funny. However, I watched the regular DVD version of Avatar on my 27" Sony Wega. I'm not spending the money even on a HD setup. To say nothing of 3D. I'm finished paying fortunes for the newest tech. It's just not worth it.
