I recently purchased a really nice 3CCD videocam. And have been a longtime fan of adult films so have done my research on that side at least (from the fan/consumers perspective). :) But I have 30 questions about making an adult film. If anyone minds jumping in and answering these questions or some of them, I'd appreciate it. And I'm sure others here could learn a lot from it as well. And who knows, maybe we'll get a subforum here about film making and this will be the first thread. :) I broke the questions up by category. ======================================= 30 Questions About Making An Adult Film ======================================= Sound 01. What mic do you use? How many do you use? 02. During a sex scene how do you position the mics? Lighting 03. What lighting kit do you use? How many lights? 04. Have you ever made a lighting mistake? What did you do? 05. How do you position your lights during a sex scene? Camera Angles and lenses 06. What wide angle lenses do you use and for what positions/shots? 07. Have you ever used a 35mm adapter like a redrock m2/letus35/etc.? Pros/cons? Location 08. Any tips on picking an outdoor location? 09. Has talent ever complained about a location? Which location? Preparing for a scene 10. Do you ever use a script? When do you review the script with the talent? 11. Before the talent shows up, do you go through a prep process? 12. What mic do you use? How many do you use? 02. During a sex scene how do you position the mics? A senheisser K6 short shotgun mounted on the camera for gonzo shooting or a Senheisser 416 on a boom pole with a beachtec if shooting dialogue. Lighting 03. What lighting kit do you use? How many lights? 04. Have you ever made a lighting mistake? What did you do? 05. How do you position your lights during a sex scene? Kino flo divas- 4 of them as well as a 650 arri fresnel color corrected for daylight. I position them so that I have the widest latitude to shoot without having to walk in front of them. I made many lighting mistakes many years ago when I had no concept of color temperature. Camera Angles and lenses 06. What wide angle lenses do you use and for what positions/shots? 07. Have you ever used a 35mm adapter like a redrock m2/letus35/etc.? Pros/cons? I don't use a wide angle lens. A redrock adapter isn't practical or necessary for shooting gonzo. Location 08. An outdoor location should be far away from traffic and airports and should have adequate shaded areas. Shooting in direct sunlight or reflected sunlight is a pain in the ass. More than most cameras actually! ha I think I may start with natural lighting for my first video or a low budget light kit. That's interesting that you don't use a wide angle lens. Any reason for that? I've heard of some directors using them and always wondered about if I'd need one or not. Lately though I have seen some videos where it was clear they were using some sort of wide angle lens because it distorted the natural look of the shot. It kind of curved the bodies to fit my screen which was wierd..don't know if anyone has ever noticed that? I wish I remembered the title of that dvd that did that. :) Assuming after I finish the project, what are my distribution options? My understanding is I could shop it around to adult dvd companies to see who wants to distribute it for a cut of profits or I could pay to make the DVDs myself. How long does it take you on average to shoot a scene? Then to edit it? Just curious. :) [Link]
Mike Quasar Zero Tolerance Reluctant pornographer 1765 Posts 7/01	Posted - Apr 28 2007 : 4:39PM I don't use the wide angle adapter for a couple of reasons; the first of which is that everyone else does and secondly, I don't like the distortion factor. Yes, it can make a good ass look like a GREAT ass but it also make a beautiful face look like a giant bug. That's not to say that some stuf shot with a wide angle adapter isn't incredible. Some of it is, but most of it isn't. As far as distribution, at this stage in the game your best bet is the web. Trying to make an impact now in such an oversaturated market would be nearly impossible unless you somehow talked Jessica Alba into being in your movie. If you find someone to distribute it for you, you will be responsible for any and all costs associated with your movie (packaging, replication etc.) and the distributer will always take their cut before you see any return on your investement which in today's market won't be much on just one title. Your other option is to sell a finished movie outright for a small profit. [Link]

Hire a handful of those girls and shoot it in motel rooms! Tony T didn't patent the idea. I don't know what kind of style you are looking for, but remember--it's all about the girls. I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses the concept of girls getting off, as opposed to the circus acts and seeing how much a girl can take while she's hating every minute of it. [Link]
