Has any porn company put out 4k HDR Bluray movies yet? Seems most only offer "4k resolution" (online websites). Haven't seen any discs being put out yet. Am I wrong?
I am not aware of a single one. Given the few mainstream releases that are available on UHD Blu-ray and the extremely few adult titles on Blu-ray, I wouldn't expect any in the near future.
Maybe hoping for full on 4k HDR XXX is a pipe dream. Porn companies would have to pay Dolby and DTS licensing fees. And would need to have guys versed in mastering Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. :) Will XXX companies pay the fees? Not likely. Too expensive. So all we'll get is 4k res online video clips. :) Easy to do and cheap. Just need a 4k camcorder. I just naively thought since porn companies lead the way back in the VHS days and I think DVD days...probably more cost effective back then too.. :)
A lot of companies got burned by supporting HD-DVD. Between that and poor Blu-ray sales I doubt they are eager to go into 4K UHD Blu-rays. Especially with how few players are in homes right now. They seem to be exploring VR instead.
It will never happen. I already covered this in the Blu-Ray thread, so I won't bother posting it all again. To give you a short answer, the adult industry does not and will likely never have access to UHD-BD replication due to the collapse of the optical disc replication industry and a variety of economic factors that make it a bad business choice. The industry can offer 4K HDR downloads in the next four years, but it depends heavily on consumers having updated hardware and content makers investing in the appropriate equipment to make it happen. As of right now, all the cameras used to shoot 4K content support some form of HDR, which can be dealt with by current software, so they just have to buy HDR monitors for grading and testing, which will be out this year. Also, they are waiting on a new video codec that can do 4K and HDR, while also costing no money to use. HEVC was locked out because a group of companies threatened to go after the adult entertainment industry and other content providers if they used it. Thus far, nothing has happened in regards to that, but it's not something the industry is willing to risk and only the most recent computers support it, so most people can't even use it yet. It's always a chicken/egg situation.

I'm in the "it won't happen" camp. Perhaps if blu-ray sales had been better, but the rise of streaming/online downloading pretty much killed that market for all but the most hardcore video-quality seekers (I count myself as one when it comes to my favorite performers/titles). It's a shame because most of 4k content out there right now has about the same bitrates as really high-quality blu-rays, and I don't expect them to get much higher because of the desire to keep file sizes manageable. Obviously size isn't much of a concern with discs (it just has to be under the maximum allowed space), which is why most blu-rays were/are better than their downloadable counterparts.
Still hoping a studio would do at least one title for 2020/2021. From the research I've done, 4K can be done on 50gb so a UHD triple disc replicator isn't much needed, as long as the regular replicator upgraded their software for UHD. I've sent emails to 2 US based brokers asking if their okay with porn but received no answer, a studio would probably have to use a German/Taiwan replicator.
PCM audio is good for 4K disc, no licence fees for dolby/dts audio unless it's for logo use, if they are, the author house/replicator will include it in their quote. The software for dolby/dts runs about $1,500, not many studios would be able to get it.
What type of content would you like to see on 4K? new feature, softcore, classic feature, BDSM, solo or gonzo all sex? would you require HDR or is SDR ok?
Since Sony fumbled 4K by not putting it on PS4, they seek to redeem them self by adding it to PS5 so maybe it inspires studios to try. Has VR grown since 2017?
Marc Dorcel put out a bunch of titles for the European market and there might be some JAV stuff that is only available in Japan. That's all there is, as far as I know, and I don't expect the US studios to have any real interest in the format, even though the next-gen consoles will support it, because it's far more profitable to get money with digital VOD downloads and streaming. Despite 4K TVs being the norm and widely adopted, the disc players never took off because the brand-name models that were supposed to be sold with the TVs were too expensive and the less expensive models from the cheap brands are not put on store shelves. VR has done well in the Asian and European markets, so content makers are backing it 100%.
Manon's Perfume is one. I couldn't tell you the rest, as they seem to have only been available in Europe and have been removed from his store, in favor of the 4K VOD from various providers, and are likely no longer available anywhere except second-hand sellers.
Found this on a replicator's site. They're telling customers not to use a replicator that does porn.I notice the Taiwan replicator isn't doing BD anymore. I spoke to a software vendor, they say their software can output ISO files. Offering ISO downloads so customers can burn to disc is an option, I've read BDXL can be used but you must use the first 2 layers and not every 4K player will read the disc so 50 dual layer BD-R would work better.
