I'm a UK porn fan and a lot of the porn fodder comes from the US market. Special thanks to Adult DVD Now for taking the risk many years ago, leading to the opening of the UK porn floodgates. Now I notice that just about all the US titles feature an FBI warning /"Custodian of Records" splash screen at the beginning. The skip buttons are disabled for anything up to 60 seconds during the time. A few titles allow you to ffwd through the splash screen but these are few and far between. This pause may seem trivial but porn is afterall an "instant gratification" thing and this delay in getting to the action can sometimes seem like an eternity and can even extinguish the geyser on occasion :) So - is this non-skippable splash screen a legal requirement that US porn studios must adhere to? On a related note I notice that some of the "less established - aka cheap" studios add almost 3 minutes of non skippable phone sex adds prior to the main feature. Yep I know you get what you pay for but surely such a practice does little to help one's reputation or sales figures. I rate this practice almost as bad as having performers on the cover but not in the movie. Having been stung a couple of times by this, the studios in question are now on my permanent "avoid" list. Luckily these practices have not become widespread and are virtually non existent among the premier studios. Other than the above minor peeves I'm an avid porn fan. Been on the board for a few years now but this is my first post to the porn pool :) Best Wishes [Link] |

I have never, that's right never had a VHS adult movie snap, twist get tangled etc. However with DVD titles I must be up to at least 15 if not 20 or more titles that play fine 1 minute and the next time get to a certain point and the image freezes and that's it. There was a thread in the technical forum on here a while back where several people reported the same problem. This weekend I had another disc that has played fine umpteen times before suddenly shudder to a halt. Oh btw I do look after my discs very well - I do NOT keep them in hard cases as I feel that prising them from the spindle causes strain (plus the space saving) I instead keep them in a "DJ Style" case with little , hanging plastic wallets with cloth in the middle to keep opposite discs seperate. I'm completely fed up with DVD as a medium - anyone know if/when something more solid/reliable will loom in the horizon ? Also I wonder why DVD's are so darned fragile and prone to giving up just because they feel like it ? www.makepovertyhistory.org Edited by - stefank60 on 5/2/2006 4:28:26 PM |

All the porn I watched is not CSS encoded, so you can legally copy your smut onto your machine and watch it on demand there. Much less trouble with HD compared to the flimsy optical medium. The reason why DVDs are so hopeless compared to CDs is that |

"Instant Gratification" is all well and good but it shouldn't turn you off from watching a scene just because you have to wait a short time to get to the title screen. Since it does, however, I would suggest that you first find some reputable studios that produce the kind of product that you enjoy and burn the scenes that you enjoy to blank DVD's to watch. It takes a bit of legwork but there are many intuitive applications out there that make the process painless and it might save you some headache in the future. |
