My all time favourite gonzo line is without a doubt EURO ANGELS HARDBALL, simply because it with it, Christoph added a darker, fetishy feel to gonzo porn. In general, that nasty sort of porn we see in that great Rumiko/Lex/Silvia Saint scene in THE ACADEMY and in Tanya Hyde films (the atmosphere and costumes, not so much the editing and music) and what we saw in the early Hardball films is the kind of porn I most enjoy, and I know my friends enjoy this sort of porn as well. It's described as 'fetishy', but that's a word which covers just about anything these days when used as an adjective.
I'm wondering if one of the major companies is thinking of doing a line like this. The sort of film would have an emphasis on leather/latex costumes, and perhaps greater contrast in the lighting and a stylish aesthetic, along with a coyness amongst the women. Besides that, the sex itself would have an anal emphasis. However, the camerawork wouldn't need to differ from current gonzo, nor acting be needed. It's all about creating a look onscreen.
I know I can turn to Private's FETISH MACHINE line or indeed early Christoph and Frank Thring for this sort of stuff, but I'd love to see Quaze, or Jake Malone, or Alex Ladd, or Erik Everhard bring this sort of porn to life. I see flashes of it in Mason's and John Leslie's work - and Skeeter Kerkove has the costume thing going - but none get the right kind of atmosphere I'd like to see. A couple of scenes in the first ANAL EXPEDITION came close to what I'm talking about, such as the Tina Wagner-and-co cellar scene.
Probably the best candidate to try shooting this is Steve Holmes. Maybe even David Perry. It's gonzo porn meets the seediness inside the Crazy Horse in paris. It's the skilled camerawork and intimacy of a Jake Malone or Tom Byron except with a dark, leather-wear milieu.
Anyone get the gist of what I'm saying? Anyone else keen to see it? Anyone keen to make this line happen?
I would LOVE to do a movie like what you describe but I'm afraid that I'd be accused of being "artsy" and get slammed by all of the raincoaters out there (you know who you are!!) The only thing I miss from my days of making features is lighting. Lighting creates different moods and feel for a scene. Pure Gonzo flicks really only have one mood. It can get a little stale after a while in my opinion.
Mike Quasar, if you shoot just one film like this, I personally know a stack of people that would step up and buy it, just in Sydney, Australia itself. I could shell out on thirty or so and give them as presents to friends. When I'm talking porn at parties, what's the one movie that keeps cropping up in conversation over and over again? TANYA HYDE'S LONDON CALLING. I'd heard so much about this film before I even got into porn. Guys that were big Buttman and Tom Byron and Rocco fans said LONDON CALLING was something special, and if you look at most of the scoring for Tanya Hyde's films on this site, you'll see they're all pretty high. What detracts from her films, according to the reviews, is the editing and music. Now, what I propose would not match her for that, but would take a lead from her sense of lighting and costume and scenario...imagine HELL, WHORES AND HIGH HEELS, one of, IMHO, the best porn movies ever made, and rather than going the MTV approach, just providing the dark, kinky mood? Kind of like the way that Pasolini guy from VCA shoots his films but with a gonzo sensibility with regards to pace and style.
The sort of scene that approaches this is that Private Lex and Sylvia Saint in THE ACADEMY, which I keep referring to - the lighting in that scene rocks. I'd heard so much about that scene before I ever got to see it. It makes Lex look like a bronzed beast and Sylvia some dark temptress, yet keeps hot gonzo intimacy.
I'm sure people who bought EURO ANGELS HARDBALL during its super-fetishy moments, and anyone who's enjoyed Tanya Hyde or Susie Medusa or Thring's not-crap moments will dig this project, from the sounds of things. The line between 'artsy' and what I'm talking about aint so fine as people think. I hate Ninn and Blake's stuff - mood without heat aint nothin'. Don't use slow motion, don't try trickery, just set the mood and lighting and do the rest. Maybe even shoot it at night.
But hey, why not pitch, or possibly go a step further and shoot the thing on spec, and check on the boards to see what people dig and maybe don't dig. I just know I'd rather spend money on this than 'just another gonzo'. ZT don't have anything like this now. Pitch it to the big bosses. You'd be a natural choice Quaze - I didn't like your glam-film technique at first, but now I cannot understand why more porn types don't use it. It impresses the female porn viewers I know anyway...
I've always loved the earlier Hardball stuff from Christoph (I also like the recent issues, but they haven't this dark fetish feeling) and Frank Thring's Pirate movies for Private. But unfortunately today there's no porn like this on the market.
I support Ultrasiet with his suggestion for the big gonzo studios to shoot a porn line which is a bit one the fetish side. Good directors for this could be David Perry for ZT, Jake Malone for RLD or the best of all: Christoph Clark himself. Tricia how to ask Christoph about that? I'm sure there's a market for such movies.
If Christoph can direct hardcore fetish work to match the quality of what he's producing now, which is red hot , I will be thrilled. His darker early stuff was superb but suffered from poor picture quality. I'd like to see him do it with his current excellent production values. I guess HARDBALL 16 is an example of this, and the final scene in HARDBALL 18 (how hot is that scene? Especially Jane Darling. My God!)

Mike Quasar, one of the things that seems to me is completely overlooked in porn, especially fetish porn, is 'sound' - not music - sound. For example, there is something incredibly sexy about the sound of a woman's stockings rubbing against each other when she crosses her legs. Same thing when you run your hand up the inside of her thigh and flick out her stocking top. Or you trail your hand across her breast and hear its softness...etc, etc. Trouble is the mike is never near enough to pick any of this up in DVD hi-fidelity, or if its near its the wrong sort of mike. Sound can be even more atmospheric than lighting if well used - ambient sounds and silence can have a very powerful effect. And the soft, seductive voice of a sexy woman, especially a Russian or East European woman with her dark accent and sexy English....WoW...! Why do we never hear any of this? Its just 'fuck me, fuck me harder'! IMHO
