BigBobxxx Senior Member 2681 Posts 5/04	Posted - May 18 2009 : 8:43PM Seriously, you may be able to do it very simply (as many PCs are assembled this way). (1) Wash cum off hands and dry thoroughly. (2) Unplug AC power cord from computer. (3) Remove the side panel. (4) Touch the metal frame inside the case to discharge static electricity. (5) Undo the two screws holding the optical drive in the bay and/or push in the plastic retaining clip to free the drive. (6) Push on the back of the drive to push it out the front of the case. Many optical drives do not require removing the front panel of the computer to remove them. If yours does, remove the front panel too (if it's obvious that it is blocking the removal of the drive. (7) Remove the cables on the back of the drive (it is usually easier to do once you push the drive an inch or two forward. (8) As mentioned, unscrew the top plate of the drive and let the disk fall out. [Link]

Jast take care that you don't scratch the disc on the metal edges in the process if it's something you care to keep. [Link]

One of those three tray carousels? I just forcibly held open the tray long enough to get out the disc. I used the rotate function to get it around to where I could grab it when it started to slide back in. [Link]

It will rotate but it won't slide out. I have a two disc live Van Morrison CD that if all else fail would be worth dropping the CD player from a tall building if I could save the CDs. [Link]

To piss me off further I just bought a Blue Oyster Cult Greatest Hits CD that due to a couple of little nicks around the hole in the middle of the CD will not play on either my computer's CD drives or in my vehicle's CD player. And the player may very well still be OK once you get the CDs out. Unplug it for a few days, take off the cover, get the CD's out and plug it in and try to get the tray to eject before you put the cover back on. [Link]

Since it has been opened copyright law dictates that I can only exchange it for the exact same title. I can not get my money back. Since I only have 90 days to return it unless I can get the store that I bought this at to special order a replacement for me I am screwed. [Link]

Rather, it is your store's policy (citing copyright concerns as the reason). Stores are not wrong to do this, however, it doesn't fairly help those with defective merchandise. This Catch-22 you are in, is entirely of the store's making. Demand to speak to the manager. If he/she refuses to correct the situation, let them know you will be sending a written complaint to your state's Attorney General, with a copy to the store's corporate office (take the time to find out who their top executive is, and be sure to address it to him/her). Most companies will do what it takes to avoid written complaints to state's attorney general's offices. You may, in fact, need to write and send that letter. But, once the store's corporate office receives the copy of your letter, they will respond. If you're feeling especially vindictive, send copies of your AG letter to the BBB, local paper and a few local television stations (who sometimes run such "human interest" filler when there are no dog-rescued-from-the-sewer-pipe stories available). I'm probably going to wait until someday when I feel the need to really pound the shit out of something to take on the CD player. Much cheaper than primal scream therapy. [Link]
