So AVN writes a story about Adult DVD Talk but doesn't want to mention the site name? What's up with that? Instead the writer prefers to condescend to us as "internet chat."

The question was asked and answered. This thread has no point. But let's continue our pointless internet chat drivel where no one can win and nothing gets accomplished. Because as we all know the real information must always come from AVN.

Yeah Steph,

I also find it very amusing too that AVN can find the time to make "news" flashes about ADT Posts, but they can't seem to keep fans well informed of Stars coming & going from the industry.

AVN keeps us well informed of ADT Posts, Bizarre court cases, & Internet companies starting up. Way to keep us well informed of the quality Porn news AVN.

I don't like that AVN article at all because it portrays EroDVD as scammers and DVSX as poor little victims and we know that's far from the truth. EroDVD is one of the biggest and best european online store when it comes to buying adult DVD's and I don't like the way AVN and DVSX are blacklisting them. They don't deserve that at all. Not to mention AVN tries to take away any credibility we might have by calling us "internet chat".

Btw, did DVSX contact EroDVD and asked them what's going on? No they didn't instead they went crying to AVN and trying to save their face with lies about EroDVD running a scam!

Steph,

Of course AVN isn't going to tell the people visiting their site about ADT. If they did those people would come over to ADT and would rarely go back to AVN. For every 1 worth while story at AVN you get 9 steaming piles of horse $hit. """"Today in Wyoming, A man who had his penis severed in a car door accident lost his court case with the auto company"""".

AC, since when do I provide some kind of safety shield? ;)

Ramsey, you're jumping to conclusions. You don't know if DVSX contacted EroDVD. And you don't know that DVSX contacted AVN. I would guess that AVN contacted DVSX. You have been unduly harsh to DVSX over what seems a very trivial matter. DVSX answered the question. Yes, the wording on the stickers added some confusion, but they made clear the content is no different. Aline could have checked before saying the content is different.

I talked to Aline by e-mail on Saturday and she said they had not contacted her yet. That's pretty strange because DVSX said they needed time to do some research where those movies came from before they could reply here. Wouldn't it make more sense for them to check with the source like Aline? I admit maybe Aline should have checked if the DVD's really had extra stuff in it but that still doesn't give DVSX and AVN the right to call them a bunch of scammers because EroDVD does not deserve that. They could have said that it's just based on some misunderstanding by both parties involved.

Well Steph,

Maybe not so much a safety shield, but you are the Queen and/or Momma Dog of ADT. If we have learned anything about my posting habits. If 1 of the "Women of ADT" take a stand on something and I agree with them. I have no problem joining their side and coming out guns blazing. BANG! BANG! AVN.

Hey Ramsey,

This is coming from respect and I'm not trying to cause an argument. To me it appears the "Opinions" on the situation are all from the AVN guy. It appears to me that a few DVSX people's quotes were put into the AVN person's opinions to make it seem like they are either agreeing with him or that the opinions he is writing are their opinions. I don't think DVSX would blacklist a company you seem to hold in high esteem. It just wouldn't make good business sense for DVSX to do that. Who in the situation has nothing to loose from placing blame? You got it! The AVN person.

Trust the people we know from having been here. Not some Johnny come lately outsider(AVN guy) who didn't have the testicular fortitude to name ADT as the place where this DVSX film topic came from.

Much Respect,

I think that's unrealistic. They carry thousands of titles. You can't really expect Aline to check them personally and frame by frame (to make sure).

Groovy AVN article, by the way.

Funny part is, that indeed, laying low is probably a smart thing to do for DVSX at this moment because in month or two, nobody will even remember this thread except maybe you and I.

Now, if I were in their (DVSX) shoes right now, I would offer us a dozen or two of free DVDs (black label edition) as a token of peace. Something to make us forget this incident more quickly and silence our demons.

I can't agree with you more. And rest assured, it will go away. Do you really think we're going to discuss it forever?

Mark Kernes isn't too bright, is he? Nobody accused DVSX of intentionally putting the sticker on the outside of the case in order to trick people into thinking that the discs contained extra footage. We (ok, I) just pointed out that by doing so, it did cause people to assume that there was additional content.

Nobody here ever made any assumptions about thier intent. The only person making any assumptions works for AVN.

ADT may be just an 'internet chat site' in the eyes of AVN....but in the eyes of porn fans who actually shell out the money for films, ADT's 7000+ film reviews are far more meaningful than any of the AVN reviews.

Here's something I don't understand, if DVSX didn't contact AVN about this issue then how did they know about it? Do AVN people lurk here looking for stories and why don't they mention the source by name instead of just labelling it as "internet chat"?

Hey Ramsey,

Of course AVN has people lurking on ADT. They have to get quality news from somewhere . They sure don't get it from their fellow AVN news people.

Also Ramsey, the more I read that article it appears to me almost all the quotes were taken directly from ADT. Very few if any look to be reworded as if it were from a contact between AVN & DVSX.

Something bothering me about this is AVN could have used their name & resources to find out exactly where the information got cloudy between DVSX & EroDVD which would have most likely put the hard feelings of this topic to rest, but AVN didn't. Instead they put their 2 cents in stirring the pot and offered no real assistance in bringing this issue to a conclusion.

Keep up the good work AVN!!!!

There are AVN employees who are registered members of the forum. ADT has been the source for several stories over the years, never credited. In this case ADT wasn't only the source, but actually part of the subject.

Zoid, I wasn't saying that I expect Ero to check every disc. Rather that the answer should have been 'I don't know if the content is different' because that's the case.

It is sad to see that even with all the changes at AVN, they haven't switched gears that much. For years there have been efforts to marginalize internet sites, newsgroups and other chat forums. (Sometimes for good reason) I liked the article for the facts it provided, but ADT should not be looked down upon and that was the feeling I got from the article.

When they do it to my site that's one thing, but ADT? For shame!!!!

Rog,

Doesn't AVN look down on anyone that doesn't actively promote AVN?

Hmmm, good point...YAY AVN...go team go :-)

Seriously....Yes, but there is more. Someday when someone writes a complete history of porn, there will be an entire chapter on how the AVN vs Luke Ford battle became an all-out effort by AVN to discredit anyone on the web, site, newsgroup, anyone.

I had hoped they were over that, especially in regard to a quality information sharing community like ADT.

That's lame and unprofessional of AVN not to cite the forum, regardless of the spin they have on the story. Actually, it's unethical. But then AVN ain't exactly professional journalism, is it? It's an industry bible that is bought and paid for by the companies that advertise in it. No more, no less. Well, I'm glad to find out what the fuss was, because I sure as fuck am not gonna read thru 5 pages of this crap.

Say what you want about Luke. But at least he would properly credit his sources when he would glom material from ADT or RAME.

What facts are that, exactly?
Speaking with/about only one party of a story involving at least two parties, is not exactly stellar journalism. Of course, one of the parties isn't American, so why bother. AVN didn't.

The amount of "navelstaren" exhibited in both the AVN article and in LOTS of posts here (meaning ADT in general, not just this thread) is driving me away from here pretty fast.
Time to go in lurker mode for awhile.

Dutch = navelstaren
English = to indulgence in navel-gazing

For those (like me) who needed a translation.

I hope that clears it up?

What Skronker and Walter Burns noted was also my initial reaction to the AVN article - why did Mark Kernes only get DVSX's side to the story? Okay, AVN doesn't think much of 'internet chat sites', but you would think they would have some respect for a European online retailer, who they did state sells a lot of American porn company titles, and contact EroDVD directly to hear their side of the story.

Perhaps AVN, since it is a trade magazine primarily for the American market, doesn't want to delve into the fact that numerous American porn companies shoot Euro versions of their titles, which are happily hawked on European retailers' sites? Or am I being too cynical?

They did a nice job of explaining why a company would put a sticker on a movie. I really doubt that the nationality of the parties involved was in play. It seems to have become an issue in this thread. I'm not sure if AVN contacted both sides or not and I'm not about to stick my neck out to defend the writer.

I am a little confused by that last bit. It's no secret that companies shoot Euro versions...is it? People have been shooting stuff with peeing, fisting etc for a long time. Zane used to send me "Euro" screeners from time to time and that was....six, seven years ago. Max has Euro versions. Metro did at one time....

For the record, the DVSX sticker wasn't confusing to me at all because the Euro-cut movies sent to me have always stated "European Version" or "Euro-Cut" with no mention of "not for sale in US" etc. There is nothing evil at work here with the two versions. Some stuff just isn't legal in the US. That is why the original question was a good one. The site in question clearly stated that there were things in their DVDs that were not available in the US version. DVSX answered the question and let us know that no such "Euro" version exists.

I don't think anyone is hiding that fact. If anything, the Euro sites should want to point out the movies that do have additional material not for the US for their customers who are looking for that stuff.
