Let me preface this by saying that I harvest and edit all my DVDs and downloads, for my eventual viewing use via a media player on my TV.
If for no other reason than this permits me to archive all my porn by girls and scenes, instead of by DVD/movie, and also permits me to create additional edits and clips of scenes (e.g. by positions, cumshots, etc.).
Another benefit is that, by editing and transcoding everything into digitized media files of my determination (i.e. not stuck with .VOB files or whatever format a download came as), I am able to achieve consistently better uniform viewing results -- particularly with regard to maintaining the original aspect ratios (i.e. no scaling, distortion, stretching or narrowing) -- rather than relying upon the TV, media player and/or disk players to get it right (which they frequently don't).
I find that I actually enjoy harvesting and editing scenes.
And, this is where my new genre idea enters the picture.
As we all know, a porn shoot can take many hours of shooting raw footage to ultimately edit and produce the typical 15-to-30-minute scene that gets released.
What I'd like to have is an HD 72 hex 480 DVD of all the raw footage -- without copy protection(s) -- so that I could edit "scenes" and "clips" myself from the raw unedited shoot.I'd also like to have, essentially, an extended behind-the-scenes movie included, as well.
This would include all the relevant pre-shoot stuff (greeting, makeup, interview, etc.); the breaks, re-positioning, direction, etc. that happens outside of the raw shoot footage camera(s) during the actual shoot; and the interesting post-shoot stuff.
I suspect that fans -- even those who have no ability or interest in editing the raw shoot footage in any way -- would love to see soup-to-nuts (or in porn, nuts-to-soup :) extended comprehensive DVDs such as this.
I would be willing to pay the usual physical DVD prices (i.e. what the typical 5-scene DVD movie sells for), for a DVD of a single extended comprehensive scene package as I've described.
To sum up what I'd like to see the "full-package genre" DVD include:(1) Complete, unedited actual shoot footage. The DVD itself might, for convenience, have chapters of the raw shoot footage -- in proper sequential order -- by position(s) being filmed.
(2) Comprehensive behind-the-scenes movie (as described above).
(3) A studio-cut version of a final edited scene.
(4) Whatever trailers and other extras the director and/or studio wish to include, if any.
I could even see a contest, wherein fans could submit their edits of the raw shoot footage as scenes.
The winners could receive a prize (e.g. lunch "date" with the star, sit-in VIP viewing at the filming of an actual scene, tour the studio production facilities, etc.). All winners could even collect the prize(s) as a small group, if that would make it easier for the studios.
A DVD extras movie of the winners receiving their prize(s) would even make a great extra for future DVDs in the genre -- and would sure be a great promotional opportunity for the studios!
What true porn fan doesn't dream of the possible prize(s) I suggested?
Winning fan's scene edits could be included as bonus scenes on other DVDs, or even grouped together for a standard 5-scene original DVD title (several different scenes, not five of the same scene). Also, fan's scene edits could also be re-purposed as individual scenes on VOD-type websites.
This would also be a great incentive for fans to purchase actual physical DVDs.
This type of material (i.e. huge files of unedited raw footage) doesn't lend itself to downloading and copyright theft -- especially uploading it back up to pirate sites.
I'm thinking this would be too much work, really, for the piracy pinheads, with very little bang-for-the-buck for the amount of time and resources they would have to put into it.
Besides, if they're going to steal and pirate anything, it would be the complete edited scene, anyway (just like they're doing already, right now).
Here's another thought...
Studios can continue shooting and releasing the standard 5-scene DVDs and Internet scenes side-by-side with the new "full-package genre" releases I'm proposing, for very little additional production costs.
They're already shooting the material anyway.
This would open-up additional revenue streams by re-purposing existing content.
I have many more thoughts (and answers to the negative "what-ifs"), but I'd rather we a have a dialogue (assuming this idea generates any interest and discussion).
Here's one negative "what-if" Q & A, for starters:
Q: What about truly embarrassing moments, personal privacy and "wood" issues?
A: Obviously, within reason, the studio would edit these things from the raw footage they release.
With regard to "wood" issues, seeing the studs go up and down during the course of an entire shoot is to be expected. Obviously, segments where the stud can't keep it up can be trimmed and edited. Indeed, the camera(s) are going to stop filming at this time anyway. I don't think anyone wants to see the downtime when the stud has lost his erection, nor am I asking that this footage be included in what the studios release.
Anyone else find this appealing?
