There has been a huge influx of canadian versions being sold on ebay. These versions are extremely edited and not worth your dollar. If you are buying these versions to save a buck, you are losing a TON of great footage available in the american versions. The canadian film board has great restrictions on the content that can be shown in canadian product. If you are in canada, i'd recommend buying from www.adultdv-depot.com.

Thanks for the heads-up Jules. I buy all my adult DVD's from dv-depot and it is by far the best priced and stocked site to get adult films in Canada. Unfortunately, Jules films are a bit more expensive then most, but that's the price you have to pay for high quality porn. Keep up the good work Jules.

Jules, I really don't know why you use the Canadian distributors you do. Aside from the editing issue, I have a canadian (valentine) copy of Flesh Hunter and US copies of Flesh Hunter 2 and 3 and for some inexplicable reason the canadian/valentine dvd has absolutely abysmal picture quality compared to the excellence of the other two US discs. I can sort of excuse Valentine for the edits, their hands are tied, but I can't think of an earthly reason why the picture quality should be so much worse (all washed out) and it reflects badly on Evil Angel if the first example a customer sees of their output is one of these Canadian fuck-up versions.

A further note on ebay. I actually got ripped off by a supposed dvd seller who had listed hundreds of films very professionally and then defaulted on every single buyer! Fortunately paypal reimbursed me but be careful out there especially if using payment methods that provide no guarantee.

I got burned a long time ago when I purchased "Ass Worship #1." The DVD was worthless. All the hardcore stuff was cut out and so were the DVD extras. Buyer beware!

I would recomend ANY of the fine internet retailers listed in the kickback section of ADT or in the Where to Buy section at the bottom left in the resources section.

You can price search very easily here on ADT too.

That wasnt the answer that I was looking for. I just want to hear a recomendation of a US retailer that you consider to be the best. Game Link. I dont think that it is good retailer.

The best means different things to different people, Alex. What weight do you give to price, service, delivery time, and speed with which new titles are put up? When you can answer those questions then you'll have a means to determine who's the best. I suggest you look in the shopping section where people discuss this kind of thing with regards to different retailers fairly regularly.

I live in Ontario. Fuck the Canadian version. I stopped renting the edited version long time ago. If I really like something I always try Ebay first and I ask the seller what version it is that they are selling. I myself have bought and sold DVD/VHS on Ebay and have been very happy with it. Can't beat the Ebay prices.

When I mean best I prioritize by these factors:

1) Price
2) Delivery Time
3) Service
4) Speed/Product Availability

I buy and sometimes sell on Ebay. I have not been disappointed yet. Some of the stuff you can find on Ebay is hard to get in stores. And the prices are great. I just bought a brand new Little White Slaves 4 DVD for $9.00. Where else can you get a price like this? Ebay also has a rating system for buyers/sellers that is run by Ebay, so it's not biased.

I periodically buy and sell all kinds of DVD's on ebay. If you're patient, you can get some great prices. Why pay $28 for a mainstream movie when you can get it for $18? (the same applys to porn). But there are obvious added risks, as barrybrn has pointed out, it's important to check out feedback before you buy.

I've purchased dvd's from 6 to 8 different online retailers and by far Five Star DVD is the best to me. Large selection, great prices and very timely. The longest i've ever waited to receive an order from them was 4 days.

in most cases a consumer will not realize that there is such a thing as a canadian version of a movie, and in most cases they will not realize that anything is wrong with the version they are watching other than bad quality, bad editing, and will not realize things have been taken out, therefore, they think they have bought the movie as it is meant to be watched, and sometimes makes the sudios look bad and would not be grounds to leave negative feedback. I just hate for these versions to be bought from people in the states who could have bought a far better product.

Alex,
Hardware is right. Go take a look in the Shopping forum. There are many discussions on this. Sometimes you need to judge for yourself. Price is easy to detemine the winner on a given title. Just do a price search. Delivery time is not necessarily so straight forward. Location of the buyer and seller can be an issue. Adult DVD Empire is in PA. So they may have an advantage in shipping to you in NY. If you lived in CA, other retailers would have an advantage.

As far as Speed & Product Availablilty is concerned, the retailers with real-time inventory, have an advantage, because you know the availablilty at the time that you order. With the stores without real-time inventory, you are taking a chance if you want a particular title immediately. However, if you are not in a rush, some of the retailers without real-time inventory typically have better prices than the ones that do.

Also, you should pay close attention to the stores that don't have real-time inventory when they are the only retailers that have a given title listed. Often, those are pre-releases that nobody has in stock yet. Ususally, it's better to wait because it's possible to get a better price when the title actually becomes avaialble.

Unless you really want something immediately, I would start by shopping based on price.

Hey Jules,

Ebay is the least of your problems. Go to New York sometime and see all the Canadian versions that have made there way from north of the border to a store on 8th Ave.

Canada is not a very big market and the Canadian distributors are required to order a minimum run from their DVD replicators. So in turn, they are left with lots of extras and there is no better place to dump product then in NYC.

This is the bigger issue for not only yourself, but the industry as a whole.

Take Care,

i'm well aware of they ny situation also, just not so sure it affects most of the people here. Luckily because of our price structure its very easy to see who is doing sketchy deals.

A note to NYC fans, dont buy any Evil Angel dvds' that say "valentine video" on them.

A note to canadian fans, in the very near future, you may have to mail order my titles.

NYC is the most fierce market for porn in the world.

Theres this store thats called Empire Video ro something-Empire near the 32nd or 33rd and between the 5th and 6th or Broadway. This store is right next to a strip joint. So once I sneaked in the store and I was shocked at the prices, They sold a lot of DVDs for like $45, that's expensive!

BTW, what is the cheapest place to buy quality porn DVDs in the NYC?

In a recent thread, Tricia said that Evil Angel is taking over foreign distribution for all EA discs. Does that not include Canada? Was she just referring to European distribution?

Unfortunately, we aren't able to apply this to England OR Canada because of their film-censoring commissions. In the future, we may look at the possibility of dealing directly with the film boards of the two countries and making the cuts ourselves for those countries. That way, the people who actually buy the DVDs IN those countries would still at least get good picture quality and some extras. I can't do anything about laws of another country.

As for the eBay situation, I think Jules' assessment of some people not knowing about US / Canadian version differences is a big part of the problem. But for us, it really is a big problem, because then they think the Canadian version is representative of Evil Angel's US-based DVD catalog.
I also think that there are a lot of shady people on eBay as both sellers AND buyers who don't care what version they're getting as long as it's cheap.

My recommendation, and this refers to mainstream DVDs as well as porn DVDs: Look at the seller's feedback responses if there is even ONE negative. See what the actual negative response says. If it refers to a situation you wouldn't want to be a part of, don't buy from that seller.

In the last year or so, I have gotten sellers kicked off of eBay who have made homemade DVDs of Evil Angel and other porn DVDs, and in their item descriptions "guarantee" that it's an original copy. One seller I found particularly stupid: he took scenes from different Evil Angel directors to make a 4 hour VHS, and called it a 'NEW origianal with a lot box'. Another one: this guy had multiple items. Homemade compilation DVDs that don't exist in the Evil Angel catalog that he claims were meticulously edited down to 3 hours each.

Let the buyer beware!!!!!

@ panzer

i prefer [link removed: Site is gone] it needs 6-7 days to ship to europe. so if you live in the states you should get it with lightning speed. they have the most stuff in stock, if not, you dont have to wait for long.

they ship to europe for 5$, thats incredible. so it should be cheaper within states.

the price of the movies is low, compared to others.

service is great, fast replies when problems occour.

my first shop was gamelink, biggest crap ever! lots of problems
i also tried fivestar, was good, but service is not like xonair

just my 2 cents

I have also noticed that having seen a couple of Canadian versions of Rocco films, which don't appear to be by Valentine Video, the quality is not half as abysmally poor as the Valentine product (I've seen their versions of Jules' Flesh Hunter and Trained Teens) that I have seen so as far as the picture quality is concerned this seems to be particularly an issue with Valentine video versions than Canadian versions per se.

The Canadian system is like an evil twin of our own community standards system. Each province has it's own film commission, and each one of them must rate each title you sell on it's own. On top of that, you must be a licensed distributor in each province who's board you want to review your film. A major pain in the ass, and no small chunk of change either.

On the flip, at least they can't come at you after the fact for violating community standards.

At one point, a month or so ago, I noticed a Canadian dealer on ebay warning buyers against buying US versions which he stated would be edited and not 'the full genuine Canadian version'
You've at least got to admire his nerve.

I have ordered DVD's from a mail order place in New York, and I have a habbit of of not watching half the porn I buy. I understand the Valentine video thing, but how else can you know the difference between a US and canadian version? Does it say something on the cover about being a canadian version or what? Are the scenes edited so the run time is much shorter or scenes blacked out? I just don't know shit about Canadian versions, and am a bit nervous now, if someone could point me to a place of assistance, it would be much appreciated, thanks.

I first ran into this 'phenomena' a few years back when I purchased the Rocco Ravishes Prague #4 DVD from a Canadian seller (I live in Canada myself). The first thing I noticed was that there were no extras, and in particular no bonus footage. Whether any scenes were edited I cannot say as I never watched the thing. I called the seller on it and he claimed to not know much about it. He did use the term "DVD video", which I've seen a lot of since (it was even written on the DVD box cover). I've since come to regard this term to mean "the video recorded on DVD". In the end the seller agreed to refund my money. In his defense I had purchased a number of DVD titles from him before then (such as Private, Diabolic) and had no reason to doubt their authenticity. In fact, I've only seen this 'DVD video' term associated with Evil Angel titles.

From then on I've mostly avoided Canadian sellers on eBay. And if it's an Evil Angel title I pay close attention to the box cover photo (if one is provided), and usually I'll confirm the DVD does in fact includes extras. As has been pointed out already in this thread, 'buyer beware'. Overall though I've had generally good experiences purchasing adult DVDs through eBay. Living in Canada can sometimes make such transactions problematic but many sellers have proven to be accomodating, even if they don't initially state that they will ship to Canada.

They seem to love editing out A2M although often only a second of footage will be edited out which makes it rather pointless. They also don't seem to edit out A2M if to do so would ruin the cumshot. The dvds I ended up with were all from an order from a guy selling on ADT and about haf were Canadian versions. Now, as well as the EA titles mentioned earlier, the only other Canadian one was RLDs Assault that Ass. The amazing thing was that all the A2M is edited out of the whole film except right at the end of the film with the notorious TT Boy/Paris cumshot where he removes his cock from her ass then cums on her face wiping some smears of shit on her chin in the process; she then sucks his clearly tainted member. How utterly bizarre that an A2M like this one should be left intact and yet all the others were edited out! Maybe that is the answer; Canadian censors only pass A2M scenes where the guys cock is caked in shit

In Canada, things change every once in a while as far as what must be censored and what makes it through. Here is a little history (maybe not exactly accurate) regarding censorship of porn in Canada, excluding Quebec cuase they have their own rules.

Before 1990. No anal, no facial, no A2M, no DP of any kind, no spanking, no rough sex, no piss in mouth, no enema.

1990-91 - Anal was allowed.

1993-94 - Facials allowed

1994-95 DP and A2M allowed

1997 - Fisting, enema, were allowed (mostly euro films)

1998 - DAP and DPP were allowed

2003 - A2M and fisting on shakey grounds.

so every once in a while our community standards change, I guess depending on which moron is in charge of defining these standards.

I totally understand directors like Jules being concerned about the integrity of their products, once distributed in Canada, but as much as I hate Valentine Video, it's not their fault that they edit the films, they have to follow the bullshit rules otherwise lose their license.

Personally I don't put up with these bullshit rules, I get my films uncut by any means that I can (ebay, trading, online vendors) just to piss on the censorship board.

I'm assuming that the censors don't force Valentine to hike the brightness up and do god alone knows what else to wash out the picture? Surely we can blame Valentine for that?

Thanks for the info Sir Noel Plum and P_ramezap, I just went through those discs, and there is no evidence they are anything but the US version, all of my Evil angel discs say nothing about Valentine video, just Evil Angel and Jules Jordan video, and I read the FAQ for the online retailer from New York, and they were very clear they only sell the US versions of the discs. So thanks, and whew.

The main problem with the UK Evil Angel (Harmony) versions is not the censoring. It is the cutting out of all extras, menus, chapters etc to just the main feature only.

the bottom line (hopefully) is that the canadian versions read "valentine video" right under the title, this is the determining factor. If it says this, I wouldnt buy it.

Ok Jules, here's a Canadian site that sells your vids, and it's based out of Quebec, but underneath the title of your company there is a blur-out where I believe the Valentine label would be. What do you think that means? Are they Valentine one's, or are they just the covers that they happened to use? Maybe you're familiar with this site. Either way whatever you know would be greatly appreciated. Just click the enlarge cover to take a quick peak at what I'm talking about.
