He's watched the pre-scene interviews (where girls like Keri Sable have been asked on camera whether they are under the influence of any substance--and seemed crystal clear when they answered no) and the behind-the-scenes vignettes (where he swears he can remember a bit with Taylor Rain admitting to having tried shooting cocaine up her asshole). He's read review site after review site, listened to podcasts and audio interviews of the female stars, and of course scoured the Porn Pool for topics on the subject of whether the women we love to watch REALLY enjoy and love anal sex or if it's simply yet another "play within a play" to borrow from Hamlet...another layer of the fantasy which none of us would really want to know if it were simply "acting" or untrue. And yet he still wants to know. He's come across snippets or replies from seemingly completely-in-control of their sexualities and porn careers individuals posted here. Kristina Rose and especially Dana DeArmond (two of his favorites) come to mind. They and other wonderful ladies freely talk about how it's not being done right if it hurts, and/or how much they enjoy it/get off on it/do it in their personal lives/let anal sex take them to another level in sex. And the connoisseur certainly sees stars like Tori Black, Kelly DeVine, Asa Akira clearly lose themselves in amazingly aggressive scenes where they literally have their backdoors pounded like pussies. He's even experienced this in real life, with an incredible, progressive girlfriend who loved the same style of anal sex. So he understands that here in the real world--as well as in porn--a person or a couple can be taken/can get to that place where an act that is referenced in every entry online as needing lots of time, patience and lubrication to properly set up becomes a raw, visceral, urgent need to be butt-fucked as if by a battering ram. He rambles. He supposes it's a lot like the old Tootsie Roll (hm, that's Freudian, huh?) Pop commercial. "How many licks does it take to get to the center? The world may never know." The connoisseur wonders (and thinks he knows the answer) whether or not there isn't a certain percentage of porn actresses who truly, deeply, madly love anal sex in all its glory (to them it just doesn't "hurt" or feel uncomfortable...they've totally been able to personally bridge that divide between pleasure and pain) and then a (much larger) chunk of the performing females who simply tolerate it because it's been in vogue all these years now. For the paycheck. He supposes there have always been (and will always be) some women who "phone it in". Who swig Jack Daniels prior to a dp/gangbang scene. Or smoke out. Or both. Dirty little secret of any industry I suppose, much less one like porn. And that there has also been (and will always be) those that are true stars. Those on whose faces you can see the sublime loss of self and supreme embrace of pleasure as they go about doing what they love, for the hidden, faceless fans. Fans like the connoisseur. [Link] |

I guess it's just that in this age of social media/interaction with these stars (like this forum) that I felt the "fourth wall" was being removed, which leads to my quest for authenticity. |

You can never tell who's actually happy, especially when the work is fairly mundane, like selling tv's or sex for that matter. The basic point I'm trying make is, people who truly love what they're doing, usually don't make you constantly question if they do or not. |

But if we step back a minute, we should remember that as porn fans we are already privy to a level of authenticity rare in any other area of the entertainment industry. We watch women having real sex on camera, with the most intimate parts of their anatomy presented in crisp close-up to be seen by ,potentially, millions of people around the world. You also have to consider the fact that mainstream society largely disapproves of the manner in which these women earn their money and this may well be why some girls -many of whom are barely out of their teens- feel the need to "dull the pain" generally, and not just in relation to anal sex. I'm not trying to be all moralistic about it but I just think that it pays to be wary of demanding more (authenticity or whatever) from these ladies when they may still be trying to sort out their own feelings about being a pornstar, earning a living and yet still muster-up the courage to do what they do.
