Imagine what it would be like if one of the IR trolls, bitter competitors, jealous fanboys, suitcase pimps and/or posters who have a personal issue with the reviewer started taking potshots at reviews? Disagree with a review, write your own review. I could see something like (a) "Did you find this review helpful"? yes/no, or (b) "rate this review" 1-5 or 1-10. But, to start allowing posters to start taking issues with, or overly-praising reviews, with written comments, is just asking for trouble, IMHO. Maybe -- maybe -- if we limited it to registered users with at least 100 posts (or some threshold number), it would be worth trying. But, I'm doubtful. Perhaps an alternative approach? Rather than commenting on reviews, how about a forum-style thread (only one per title!) where posters could make their own comments (mini-reviews?) about the title itself -- not commenting on a review? These threads would link directly from the ADT title pages (but could be located in their own new "reviews forum"). Comments that veer off-topic and/or cross the line (e.g. an IR troll starts ripping a performer/studio with their IR agendas; so-and-so performer sucks, etc.), can be moderated in the normal fashion. If it were me, I would leave it alone and here is why: What you consider a "good review" I may not, good reviews are HIGHLY subjective and certain people have certain tastes. Ever notice how certain movie critics pan movies and then you see it and love it? Same thing sort of here. There is "minimal" risk in reading a review, then renting (or buying) a DVD based on that review, and disagreeing. I think only then, after actually taking a bit of a chance and reading some reviews and seeing how they coincide with your idea of a "good review" can you actually say, "Yes that is a good reviewer for ME and I trust their opinion." Further you can easily see various reviewers styles and note that some may be over effusive or consistently negative. [Link] |
