| STB Member NE 7 Posts 2/06 | Greetings ~ I used to spend a lot of time over at RAME, and only in the last few months have I been lurking around here. I recall suggesting in RAME years ago that they should go to a web-based format, because it allows more use of the web and more personality to our group. The old timers poo-pooed it, wanting it to be just about opinion, without avatars and links and pictures and so forth. I am starting to wonder if they were right. There is good discussion and info here, but there seems to be a very big attitude change. With so many folks in the industry being members (there were some on RAME, but nothing like it is here), the regular posters seem less likely to be honest about having negative opinions for fear of pissing off others or losing industry folks. (Many performers bailed out on RAME after a short while because of what was sometimes brutal honesty.) Now I am not one who would call for wholesale slamming of everyone and everything, that would be way too neagtive...but on the other hand I see a lot of ball washing in here. Almost to the point where no one can do any wrong. Has this place become just another tool of the industry? Maybe I am wrong, but I am wondering what the old timers think. Has there been a big shift in attitude from RAME to here? Is there not enough balance in opinion? Later, Bluesman [Link] |

Thanks to RAME I got some free tapes from Dave Cummings and Van Damage contacted me and send me 2 pesonally signed photo's of Tiffany Mynx. Of course I framed those 2 pictures! |
| Jeff @ IAFD Webmaster IAFD.COM 931 Posts 6/00 | Hey Steve -- good to "see" you again. The old-timers in RAME poo-poo'd a webboard at the time mostly because we we wanted to stay a Usenet group and didn't want to administer a website of any seriousness. Usenet is pretty much free; bandwidth costs... not to mention running the forum software, etc. Usenet was simple to manage, and at the time, still vital. As far as discussion and info, bear in mind, ADT is not RAME's successor in anything beyond a common topic. None of the RAME MODs have any input into anything on ADT. ADT has their own management, ownership, etc. They have their own policies, guidelines, culture and whatnot. While some posters left RAME and came here, others left RAME and went to XPT. A few others stuck around RAME; others went to specialized Yahoo groups or dedicated message boards. ADT, to me, is a FAN forum; and as such things are going to be a bit softball. These are people who like talking to the starlets, etc. RAME was less about talking to the starlets than it was airing grievances about the industry. If you want a forum more inline with airing grievances, check out XPT; they specialize in it. Some people who post here also post there. I'm a member there as well (a lot less active; I mostly lurk). However, that said, I think there's some valid criticism and grievance-airing at ADT; it's just tough to discover without the name-calling it's sometimes accompanied with. :-) |
| tritone Deactivated User 1009 Posts 4/03 | Things have definetly changed since those days. Web forums have largely replaced the USENET as venues for discussion. This was a change for the better, IMHO -- adding more features and making it more accessible for "non-techies". Regarding the attitudes and policies of this board. I have found ADTs philosophy of focusing on the "sanitized" view of the porn industry mostly fits in with what I want out of porn. I know there are controveries, drug addicts, girls who flake, girls who hold their fans in contempt, accidents on the set, etc... But for the most part I don't want to hear about this. I want to know what girls, directors, movies cater to my specific porn tastes. I like to focus on the fantasy side of porn, not the behind the scenes. That being said, the one area where I break this mold is my pursuit of truth in why some starlets will or won't do interracial. In these cases, I have always made my positions clear without resorting to name-calling or nastiness. I might not always get the answers I want, but the moderators have allowed me to ask my questions. So in the end, I find that you can have hard-hitting discussion here, but you have to be careful how you approach your arguments. You've got to be like Mike Wallace or Ed Bradley -- pose challenging arguments, but be a gentleman at the same time. | Hardware All-Star Member Your other left 14594 Posts 3/02 | In fact, you'll find a great deal of criticism on this site. What you won't find is much bashing of people in the industry. Even so, topics like Who are the cum-dodgers? and Jules Jordan: massive drop in quality are allowed. In other words, criticism based on facts is fine, gossip is more likely to be curtailed. That being so, I have to wonder what 'brutal honesty' you feel constrained from expressing. |
| STB Member NE 7 Posts 2/06 | Hardware I do not personally feel constrained, but when I think back to some of the stuff that Torris, Rog, Patrick Riley (who was scathing but as good a writer as you will see), Luke, etc, etc, used to opine on, it seens there is a great deal that is missing in this "fan-based" forum. This is of course only my opinion, but there is something else that I missed about the old-timers not wanting to go to this format...the freedom. You mentioned "Allowed." RAME had moderators, but anyone had leeway to say pretty much whatever they wanted to. It seems moderators here are a lot more hands on, given there is so much to lose. (see the banner ads...) As was said, to each his own...I am not slamming this forum or anyone in it. I will continue lurking and occasionally posting here, but perhaps I will check out XPT as well. In some respects rame was influential in establishing some of our moderating guidelines back in late 99 when we first launched the forum. I think the tag line back then was Where the Industry meets the consumer or something to that effect. It worked. There's plenty of criticism that goes on in the forum. (There's a lot of SFB drooling too.) It's still criticism even if it's not phrased as "that tweaker cum-burping asswhore looks like used up piece of shit in this scene". |

| Jeff @ IAFD Webmaster IAFD.COM 931 Posts 6/00 | There is no cost to participate in RAME if you have access to a newsreader; or you can access it thru Google Groups as well (or any other free Usenet tool). RAME was "born" in 1996 after spam and flamewars made it very difficult to maintain conversations in the usenet group alt.sex.movies. (I am one of the founders.) Every posting made to RAME had to be hand-reviewed by a human moderator before it was posted. This introduced a delay into the conversation, and the moderators would reject articles based on an interpretation of the groups' guidelines. (It would be the implementation of these guidelines -- along with the rise of web message boards -- which would eventually lead to the decline of RAME.) After 8 years a group of posters -- feeling that the moderators were overstepping their bounds; or that the notion of a "censored" newsgroup discussing porn was paradoxical -- campaigned loudly for the abolishment of human moderators and the human moderators stepped out of the way for a robot moderation system. Since moderated newsgroups rely on the honor system for posters not to add their own "Approved" headers, spammers showed how much they follow the honor system, and spam eventually overtook RAME as well, as spammers would forge approvals. RAME is in crisis, but it's still there. There are still a small handful of posters who post there, 11 years after its creation. You can find all sorts of info on RAME, an article archive and stuff at its website: http://www.rame.net |

Heh...heh...heh. 95 Posts 6/07 | So it seem like RAME is mostly like tumbleweeds now as the times has changed up on it and most peoples done left for greener pastours. But a few old timers are remembering on the good old days with nostalgia smiles. I likes that. I may not has no knowleges of much on RAME before today but I respect those that went to it all them years ago and even more those that still stick it out over their now that everyone else has left it for lost. Without them RAMEers we might not have never had adultdvdtalk.com for funning about and filth talkings etc without worries on police or FBI arresting us as perverts. I hopes when the tumbleweeds start blowing in here 10 or 11 years from now that I be one of the last old timers sticking it out and still doing my daily postings and such. Much pride in not never giving up and captaining the ship while she sunking deep into the seas. ---- I am a raincoats. | MikeSouth Deactivated User 511 Posts 11/02 | Rame wasnt really a fan thing, the mods didnt treat industry folks any different than anyone else I know me, rodney moore, dave cummings, Felecia Fox, Jim Gunn, Brandy Alexander, Michael Ninn and lots of others used to frequent RAME. Rame even had a kind of unofficial chat on IRC called pornstar-trading. I do miss rame, even though it hasnt gone anyplace it has pretty much outlived its usefulness, usenet has moved on to become the haven for the ultra elite filesharers . If you know how to use usenet you can get full dvd 9 day of release, menus and all of any title, adult or mainstream.... it is what it is i reckon |

| Learned Hand Member 175 Posts 2/06 | I posted on both, but primarily lurked. This seems to be the place to give the shout out to Penet.Fi There are positives and negatives to both approaches. On the one hand, I always have the feeling here that I am one post away from being banned. That is a very uncomfortable feeling. On the other hand, stars are comfortable enough to post here, and that is a valuable addition to the community. On RAME (and ASM) there were the same very small number of people who would chase the stars away like clockwork. A few, like Brandy Alexandre, would stay because they liked to fight. Primarily they would post a very few times and then disappear. Both ADT and RAME had their own sort of group think. RAME was a raincoater's forum for the most part. As such I think it played a huge part in the transformation of porn. RAME was always a place where the industry lurked more than participated, but I think they ran with a lot of ideas that first appeared on RAME and I think a lot of the more extreme porn now available had RAME to thank as its granddaddy. ADT is the flowers and roses forum. Any type of negativity is dealt with fairly harshly. This is not limited to negativity directed at an individual but extends to industry wide issues that I don't even want to bring up in fear of the ban hammer. Now, my preference would be for a slightly relaxed standard compared with how ADT is run. On the other hand, I have not even checked out XDT because I don't like the forums where all people do is attack. Back on RAME there were threads and posters I always avoided because they were so predictable and aggressive. It is hard to draw a line that will both make it comfortable for stars and allow for people to express all their opinions while still keeping the trolls in check. I remember back in the RAME days wanting a little more censorship. Edited by - Learned Hand on 7/14/2007 2:30:58 AM |
| Drew Black broken crankshaft 8009 Posts 9/99 | The only forum on ADT that I think deals harshly with general negativity is the Star Crossed forum. The rest of the forums are pretty open. |

| Leeroy Magic Member 178 Posts 6/07 | As far as ball washing going on, ass kissing, sucking up, or whatever you want to call it. Sure there is some here. Have you not seen my..How I feel about Paulina James thread But that's because this is also a fan site. That's what makes the board cool is seeing pornstars and directors posting on here. And you cannot have it both ways. You can't allow someone to post their hate thread on "why pornstars are all worthless" and then expect pornstars to want to participate in the forum. So you have to draw a line somewhere and have a balance. I've been on this board for around 3 years now (although it says 07..Steph didn't change my other username *cough)..and the way I see it, the board has always been open to real criticism of work. Of DVDs, of scenes, sex acts, studios, etc. A good example are two of the most popular threads right now Jules Jordan: massive drop in quality and Redlight going down in flames! The key is it's criticism of product and not a personal attack. And I think that is where the line is drawn and should be drawn. And this can also be seen in the reviews that get 1/2 a star out of 5 stars! How horrible are those DVDs seriously. But that's another topic. Edited by - leeroy magic on 7/14/2007 11:53:40 AM |
