What people really need to know is whether someone else who experienced it enjoyed it or not. And I think this study really does apply to porn scene reviews. One of my most favorite porn reviewers is Den who posts his reviews at www.cavr.com. His descriptions are very short and very factual. But for each porn scene he describes, he gives a numerical rating between 0 and 10.00. Which is very informative about how much he enjoyed watching the scene. And it's this rating that helps me a lot to decide whether I want to see the film too or not. There are many other porn film reviewers who describe porn scenes a lot better than Den describes. But those more descriptive reviews often leave out the most important information that the reader needs to know. Which is, just how much the reviewer enjoyed watching the scene? I think every porn scene reviewer should give a numerical rating to the scene he or she describes. This rating of course would be very subjective. I try to get the facts out of the way by listing the positions at the beginning, and then the text is more subjective. Sometimes I even discuss that most subjective of experiences, namesly whether a particular scene made me cum: "This is a hot scene, and I needed two sittings to finish it. The first time, I came just after Mark first slid his long hard cock into Eva's wet pussy. It took me about five minutes before I could walk straight again." Even when a scene doesn't do it for me, I try to say who might enjoy it: "I'm not a big fan of POV blowjobs. I like a variety of camera angles and action. And, if I were to make a whole scene from one camera angle, it wouldn't be one which filled half the screen with the girl's forehead. But it's becoming more and more common--a lot of people must like it. I get more out of knowing the content of the scene than the reaction ("raunchy!" rather than "HOT!"). But if someone says "it's raunchy! I love it!" that's fine. In mainstream reviews, for years I used to read Roger Ebert because he discussed the movie in a way that I could sense whether I'd like it or not, regardless of his opinion. Many other reviewers just summarize the press release and add a few quotables so their names will end up in the ads. Bah. [Link] |

Often we agree, but often we totally disagree. It's funny how different it can be between the two of us. I would put her opinion in more often, but she only watches so much of it with me.
