Hi, having drinks with some friend's last night in the French Quarter and we started discussing porn. Because things really started picking up we didn't get too far along so I could not ask the questions I was curious about. Judging by the little scanning I do of new release gay porn discs it looks like most gay porn seems heavily plotted. Is this the case or has the extreme gonzo mindset of straight porn present in all male porn as well? Are you seeing ATM, dap, cum swapping and the like? Is all condoms still the general rule. Thanks...its a slow Saturday and I was just curious.

I've only seen three gay releases, all three I have reviewed.
The thing I notice is that they "get away" with a bit more than str8 porn. Gay porn can show fisting and piss play, of course you hhave to buy these direct from the studio or retailers who can sell hardcore edits, with the inflated price.
Gay DVDs cost double and triple the amount of str8 titles, which could be a deterent for those looking for quality, because you have to pay for it.
I have also seen some very rough and nasty sex in those gay releases that would probably be cut out of str8 porn.
The guys are bigger, muscle wise, and all sex is condoms, well of what I've seen. There weren't any "cumshots" as in typical str8 porn, but there was cum eating. No cum swapping that I recall. And I don't think there is ATM [A2M].
The three gay titles that I've seen did have some up to the elbow fisting, which looked amazing, to say the least.

I guess I wouldn't say that gay movies are particularly story driven. Most have at least a theme to them, though, and if there is a story, it's just enough to tie the scenes together.
Mainstream gay porn is still all condoms, so you won't see any cum-swapping (people eat their own cum, though) and ATM is something I've never seen. DAP still happens though, but not nearly enough for my tastes (ie you'll probably never see a all DAP video in gay porn).
If you move away from the mainstream a bit, you'll come across pretty much any kind of extreme thing you want. Cum eating, bareback, etc... Just the other day I was reading the description of a video:

Taking your points/questions one at a time (& a few your didn't ask/make):
heavily plotted - well, depends on your definition of "heavily" - most plots are more loose than the proverbial ...
extreme gonzo mindset - there are some gonzo gay releases, in fact, there were gonzo gay releases well before they existed in the straight porn realm (the original "Closed Set" by Joe Gage was made in the late 70's and released in 1980); however, they represent only a very small segment of the gay porn market.
ATM - while it may happen, it is not featured as such (see note below)
dap - yes, quite often, actually
cum swapping - rare, although there is some cum eating (see note below)
all condoms - in most cases, yes (see note below)
on average, the men in gay porn are at least an order of magnitude more attractive than those in straight porn (there are also a few real dogs, though)
probably about half of the "stars" in gay porn consider themselves to be straight (meaning that off-camera, they prefer heterosexual sex), regardless of their orientation (top/bottom) in gay videos - there are a few gay stars who are gay but who pretend to be straight off-camera (duh??? a closeted gay actor in a gay porn video???)
as with straight porn, there is a awful lot of really poor quality product on the market - often from otherwise respected gay porn producers - and, with a very few exceptions, neither studio, nor director, nor star, nor price is an indicator of quality
in general, gay porn sells for about 2.5X the street prices of straight porn - some of this is attributable to the smaller market demand; however some of it is price gouging of a minority market
Note: Gay studios embraced very safe sex guidelines very early as a result of information about the HIV/AIDS crisis and its prevalence in the gay world. A very few studios and a very few gay porn actors have recently reverted to condomless sex; however, the consensus is that this is very irresponsible of them. Plus, most (if not all) of the actors who are currently engaging in condomless sex in videos are either known to be or suspected of being infected with the HIV virus.
One final note: BIGmike has reviewd 3 videos from Titan Media (and directed by Bruce Cam, an especially talented gay porn producer/director) - an especially good studio that specializes in slightly older (some late 20's, 30's & early/mid 40's) and generally more rugged (& often hairy) men. There are other studios with other specialities and featuring a variety of ages, age ranges, body types and appearances. Some particularly & consistantly good ones are Bel Ami (George Duroy), High Octane (Herve Handsome), and especially Sarava (Kristen Bjorn, Lucas Kazan, etc.).
mannet.com reviews need to be read rather carefully. Their very worst rating is Recommended - followed by Highly recommended and finishing with Highly, highly recommended - just so you know the scoring.
GaySatyr's right... I probably should have mentioned that. Some of Mannet's reviews tend to be a little, um, "optimistic".
I have seen 1 or 2 get a rating called "Consider", though, which must mean "only consider if you have lived a full life and have you longer need for your eyes".
