Just read on rame that A2M has been banned in the province of Manitoba. Some guy said that he rented a Rocco film and it was edited into shreds. Can anyone verify that this is the law now? I'm not Canadian, but was just wondering if this could be a sign of things to come in the States.

(I'll post a link when it appears on google. )

I sure hope so! I can't stand ass-to-mouth! Hopefully, porn will go back to the way it used to be!

And because you don't like it, it should be banned completely...

I am not a huge fan of it. I don't mind a bit here and there. Don't go out of my way to find it. But, I don't like the idea that it is getting banned anywhere. Many people out there do it in their own sex lives so I don't really think it's a extreme thing.

You really must be sick Nick! I think you need to lay down for half an hour with a cup of hot lemon and a couple of aspirins.

Well, being from Canada and a resident of the above named province, I've never heard of the A2M ban. I order across Canada, from the U.S.A and buy/rent from local stores in the province and have not seen or heard of any such ban. In fact, I have always believed many of our laws, when it comes to porn, a more liberal then much of the U.S.

Nietzsche, a link would be useful when one is available.

Thanks.

Thanks for the link.

Interesting post. However, is he basing this a2m ban on his experience of renting one movie with all the cuts is my question.

Additionally, if the ban is true, which I'm far from convinced it is based on one guys shitty rental experience, you can still always order from out of province rather then rely on your local porn shop.

...On a lighter note, it is quite amusing (and sad) how Americans know nothing about Canada. "Where is Manitoba?" Try picking up a geography book sometime.

I thought that editing movies in Canada was a common occurrence, not just for ATM. I'd be willing to bet that the edited movie was not an Evil Angel version but a version of another company who has obtained Canadian rights.

Hello

Having worked at an adult shop in canada I've noticed that what is allowed in porn varies widely by province. In ontario all of the videos we sold had to have been approved by the OFRB or ontario film review board, all of the tapes and boxes had special little stickers to that effect. DVD's were different, appearently the OFRB hadn't yet (this was in 2000-2001) realized that DVD's are as good if not better for porn as vhs and thusly were over looked. So for instance we could sell bondage DVD's but not tapes of the same titles. I can't remember right now anything other then bondage that ontario didn't like but I'm sure there was other stuff. The OFRB didn't seem to do any editing though, either stuff in a tape was allowed or not.

Quebec is far more liberal about this stuff then any other place in canada that I know of.

anytway that really had nothing to do with manitoba, sorry.

at least these canadian film review boards decide ahead of time what is allowed. seems preferrable to the US method of arbitrarily deciding to put people in jail after the fact.

However, in this case, the person who asked that question is from the Ukraine and has only been in the US for a few years. His not knowing where Manitoba is is entirely understandable (and possibly expected).

I have a friend in Canada Customs, and he told me how things work. There is a master list for Canada. On this list various titles are entered into catagories ranging from bondage to rape ect..ect. When they get a package going through customs with a title that matches one on the list they confiscate the tape/DVD, or send it back to sender with a sheet telling them which parts of the tape are offensive and they are told to censor the naughty parts of the tape/DVD. The list comes from a National film board of review, further complicating things are the Provincial film boards. All have different standards as to what is naughty and what is nice. Can you imagine sitting in a darkened room with a dozen other men and women watching porn all day...and getting the Government to PAY you for it!!!??? And make decisions on porn. Dang...I want that job. I can already hear the doctor now...."You want a paid leave from the workers safty board because of stress and blue balls"?? My customs friend also told me that he's got a killer porn collection...LOL I should try to stop by his place soon. BTW..I live in the Province of Quebec, and we have the best censor rules...cause I am not aware of any Provincal rules, the National ones are the only ones that I am know exist here.

"...Can you imagine sitting in a darkened room with a dozen other men and women watching porn all day...and getting the Government to PAY you for it!!!??? And make decisions on porn..."

The problem is, most of these people that are reviewing the porn find it offensive and are making decisions on what should and should not be allowed for Cdn residents to view. The same pretty much applies to the U.S.

I have no freaking idea how customs operates/proceeds as far as what they allow through and what they dont, despite it clearly being stated on their website. according to the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency Prohibited goods include pornography , child pornography, dangerous materials, alcoholic beverages, narcotics, and offensive weapons. They go further on stating that "If we discover prohibited items in the mail, we'll dispose of them." ...Or, according to august4me2's contact who's a customs worker, confiscates them for their own stash.

Despite porn being a "prohibited good" across Canada, I've yet not to receive a dvd out of the hundreds mailed across borders. Worst case scenario so far has been deliveries taking extra long at times, most likely due to agents wanking off to our mailings.

As an adult, you are perfectly capable of deciding what you want and not want to see. The fact that other people decide whatever is good or obscene, draws a straight line into history towards the dark days of Russian communism, where the government decided what was good for you. Luckily for us Europeans we don't have to worry about bullsh*t like that, since nothing is prohibited. Except kiddypr0n of course. You'd like to see girls poo or pee on men? Go ahead. You'd like to see anal fisting movies? Be our guest. You'd like to see Rocco and his friends do whatever rough ass work you can think of? Go rent or buy it. Do our governments 'ban' stuff? No. 'Cause over here, they understand that adults can perfectly decide for themselves what's right or wrong for them. I personally like to watch A2M movies a lot. It's about time that you people speak up over there in the US and Canada. Or am i seeing things too black and white now?

I think you guys are seeing things with a different light. The review board is not all bad. They just help smooth things out a bit. Your looking at it as censorship while my take on it is that they just weed-out the kiddie porn and most scenes with violence and the like. Most things get through uncut. I agree that if you are into something specific, and as long as it's between two concenting adults...who cares. Europe is way more accepting of things. Due to the review boards, you don't have grannies picketing the local video store complaining about porn. As far as I know A2M and A2OGM is ok in Canada.

Here's the scoop from British Columbia, Canada. I've been renting porn for quite some time, and for years up until January 2003 ATM was allowed, but double anal was not. Then all of a sudden, in January until around August, every release featuring ATM had all of it censored. It really pissed me off, as a lot of movies were almost unwatchable. Then for some reason, starting around August, ATMs were back totally uncut, along with double anal too, which was never previously allowed at all!

So now all is well in BC... don't know about the rest of Canada. But thinking back, Animal Trainer 10 was released here around the time when all ATM was being censored, so it might be OK in Manitoba now as well.

I'm in Toronto and it doesn't affect me at all. All of our local video stores stock US versions of dvd's and vhs along with the Canadian versions. There are also a couple of cool online stores here in Canada that sell dvd straight from the US.
I'd say 90% off all the dvd's on the shelves here in Toronto are US uncut versions. If I see a Canadian stickered version I won't even rent it, because I know it'll be cut to shit, the picture quality will suck, and there will be no extras.
The store owners here HAVE to stock US versions of vhs and dvd because everyone wants the new stuff right when it comes out (especially with porn). If you're a video store and you're not getting RLD and Evil Angels newest stuff as soon as it comes out, and the store down the street IS getting the new US stuff when it comes out, you're going to lose business.
The Canadian stickered versions of movies come out like 2 months after they do in the US because they have to go through the review board and it takes time. Local stores say fuck that, I'll get in the new stuff straight from my US supplier and make some money on rental and sales instead of waiting two months for the review board to get off their ass to review a movie.
People want the new stuff as soon as it comes out, and if you want to stay in business you have to have it. Any store that would open in Toronto and only stock the board approved stickered movies would go out of business FAST.

Also see the link a few posts above yours in Pornmaster Mike's post, he works there. All of their dvd's are US versions. They'll take good care of you. They are the only place I buy from online now.

Thanks M.B.

I'm familiar with the site/store. I was hoping you had a couple more up your sleeve I didn't know about.

Two problems I have with adultdv-depot ...

If they're a Cdn store, why are they selling in U.S currency? I realize why they're doing it, although I'm sure they'll have their own reasons, but I don't agree with it.

Their prices, although decent, are not the most competitive. While most of their prices are in the ballpark of $26.00 to $32.00 a title, online competitors are offering the same titles for $18.00 to $24.00.

hey DreamWeaver,

thought i'd clear up a few misconceptions...

i believe the pricing on our website is defaulted to USD...

we actually price in CDN dollars...

the reason the US pricing looks so high is because of the current state of the exchange...

watch - when the dollar gets stronger the US pricing will go down but the CDN prices will remain the same...

also, we are a very small store with a small customer base compared to names like Empire and Lasersedge...

therefore, we cannot buy product in bulk so our cost pricing will always be higher than a company like Empire that would order say, 500 pieces of a certain title...

we do have a few surprises in store though in 2003 so hopefully you will check in sometime and hopefully you like what you see!

Mike, I think you guys have a great store, and I now realize you're tailored more towards a small customer base but at the risk of getting a little off-topic here and starting a pissing match, there are no misconceptions about a few of the points you brought up.

The current exchange rate is favorable to Canadians, we have a strong dollar right now, for once, which makes it cost effective to buy U.S. titles in the States. From a customers perspective, when the Canadian dollar is weak, like it was in the spring, it is much more costly to purchase these same titles in the U.S, making purchases in Canada much more attractive providing they're priced in CDN currency . A typical title costs $19USD which converts to approx 24.71 CAD. Very reasonable. When rates are unfavorable, you're looking at about $27.50 CAD.

But with that said, your titles are still advertised and sold in U.S dollars are they not, despite the store being Canadian based. I wonder how many outlets in the U.S. sell in Cdn currency? I think you guys have a great selection but I still don't like the fact your selling in U.S currency and not favorably priced in comparison to competitors. Canadian businesses that price in U.S. currency is a way of capturing/stabilizing more profit margins and attracting customers outside of Canada, which doesn't seem in-line with your 'small customer base' business plan.

I will give you this much, you're still more favorably priced then some of the higher marked-up U.S online retailers such as Gamelink. Adultdv-depot also keeps up with the newer releases despite your location which very many Cdn retailers are not capable of doing.

not a pissing match at all - and i'll keep this post short so it doesnt veer too much off-topic (although thats pretty hard now )

we used to price in USD - now we price CDN dollars - there's even a currency convertor on our website - but yes, the default is in USD... i'm not a big fan of this because then people log on to our site, see the US pricing and say "too high" and then leave...

the USD pricing was originally used as a "universal" price for the online world...

anyways, most of our customer base is in the UK and overseas - although we do have some Canadian and American customers - but most of the people in North America that buy online will go to the States - even the Canucks!

and for regular DVDs it doesn't make much sense for Canadians to buy from us as they can drive down to Future Shop and buy the latest discs at ridiculously low prices...

the main advantage that Canadians have buying from us is that they don't have to worry about customs fees/taxes on their packages - and no matter how "high priced" we are online, we still beat the inflated prices at the local porn shop - and the overseas porn shops too!

ok - ill shut up now!

no more, my brain hurts

I've shopped and continue to shop with dv-depot and I like their service. Fast, I get what I want and I don't have to pay the customs and taxes associated with buying product from the states. However, I also buy from the states on certain titles that are a no brainer when it comes down to price.

A suggestion P.M.? I recently bought a euro title you can't get in Canada or the U.S. but I like how they shipped my product. They sent the disk regular mail and then sent the box insert later. They passed on the shipping savings by reducing the retail price of the dvd. Only cost me $0.50 to buy a case. Any chance you can do the same here?

I also like the idea for a loyalty program with customers. The more you buy the more you receive credit towards your next purchase. I.e. buy one title receive $1.00 credit, buy 2 titles receive a $2.50 credit, etc., etc.

The only titles that were confiscated at the border for me were anything with urination on women like the Max Hardcore Golden Guzzlers series (thank God I only tried to buy one and not the whole set..that would have set me back some). Now I just go through a Euro distributor since they found a way to bypass it.

we can split up your order (send discs separate from case and art) but i don't see the point if you are buying from a canadian supplier - Canada Post wouldn't open it up - no customs right from Canada to Canada right?
yes the depot dollars are coming in 2004!!

Mike, you don't just have Future Shop to contend with but now BestBuy! That store is crazy with it's DVD's and stores are beginning to pop up across Canada. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I'm walking down those rows and rows of towering shelves.

ricorocco, if you want to order titles that you think customs may confiscate, order from places like globalflix.com and adultdvdtoday.com. They mail together in an envelope package your disks and cover art sleeve. Because it's a letter, it doesn't get opened. As you already know, cases can then be picked up dirt cheap. These two stores are also among the least expensive online.

Mike made a good point, if you decide to buy from a Cdn shop, your order can be whatever size you want with whatever titles you want as there's no customs agent examining the contents (for obvious reasons - it's an order within Canada).
