primetime has nothing to do with this, i've said it in the past. primetime simply sparked some worthwhile discussion.

i do not hate what i do. but that doesn't mean i don't think about the social ramifications.

adult dvd talk provides information about all porn regardless of my personal tastes/beliefs. not because that makes us more money, but because that makes adt a comprehensive resource (there's plenty of reviews of movies that do not have affiliate links, that do not make us a dime.)

If an 18 year old moves out on her own to support herself, without porn as an immediate career option, she has to find something else to do for a while. She might find a mainstream job or go to college or trade school. She might become a stripper. Even if she wasn't more mature at 21 she would have a better handle on her choices.

But I don't want to see any formalized industry committee formed either. This will not accomplish anything besides causing undue heartache to the members of the industry at large, causing dollars to flow into the pockets of the committee members (from the pockets of consumers and performers), and causing undue scrutiny to be cast from outsiders who now will have a focal point to crucify.

Rather, in the spirit of libertarianism, each company needs to come to grips with its own sense of ideals and identity. Those that align with the ideologies and tastes of consumers, while at the same time providing an acceptable work environment for their employees will prosper.

What is acceptable? Whatever the talent pool market will bear... that is simple economics. And there is absolutely no reason that economics does not apply to a service industry. That has been proven hundreds of times.
