Is this really spamming?

Say Al called you guys and said "Hey, I see you newsletter... would you put my ad in it..."

Is that so wrong? There's lots of ad supported e-mail newsletters...

All the people on your newsletter have opted-in, so it's not really spam... it's just an ad... like a banner?

I suppose if it was "Run this content exclusively. None of your content" then there'd probably be an issue...

Video Age does have the reputation of aggressively using direct mail lists, etc. and doing whatever they can to increase their market base...

Still, it does seem like an odd ad...

I often wonder how effective these mass-mailing campaigns really are? I get roughly 5 times more unsolicited commercial offers in my various mail boxes than legitimate email. The select-and-delete response is a subconscious reflex action at this point. For repeat offenders I honor them with a few minutes of my time at spamcop.

Perhaps I'm overly sensitive to anything spam-like, but I think webmasters of adult-oriented sites need to be that much more ethical to compensate for the ones engaging in endless popup ads, spam, and other unethical practices that give the whole industry a bad name.

I mean, I don't get upset whern my issue of Movieline is filled with scotch ads. At least, this would be targeted.
