In the "On Order" case the question is "Did they just order it today or did they order it last week?"

The other problem is whether the manufacturer that they ordered the disc from has any in stock or not.

"On Order" titles could mean a few different things. We have a guide on our site that explains the different types of stock status that we use.

Here's a list of stock status types, and their definitions. To get to this list on our site, simply click on the product's stock status link that is displayed on our product pages. The link appears above the price...

"Adult DVD Empire has devised several status types for our product. This allows you, the customer, 'real-time' knowledge of every piece of inventory that we carry. We know this is important when making your buying decisions. Currently, we have five different stock status types in use:

In Stock - Product is in stock at our warehouse, ready for immediate shipment.

On Order - Product is out of stock at our warehouse, and has been ordered from the appropriate vendor. "On Order" product is regularly stocked and will be replenished ASAP. Average time to re-stock is 7-10 business days after the product goes out of stock.

On Order (Currently Unavailable) - Product is out of stock and is not available for purchase at this time. On occasion, product becomes unavailable to us from the studio for various reasons. The product will be stocked when it becomes available from the vendor.

Special Order - Product is not regularly stocked by us, however it is available to us from the appropriate vendor. When you place an order for a "Special Order" product it will immediately be ordered from the vendor and then shipped from our warehouse. "Special Order" product is usually available to ship in 7-10 business days.

Pre-Order - Product has not been released yet although orders may be generated to reserve a copy for your collection. The product will be shipped when it is released."

* As a side note, "On Order" product that is also marked, "Currently Unavailable," can not be added to an order.

Also, if a title is out of stock from a vendor or on an open order with a vendor for longer than 14 days, an email is sent to all open customer orders for that title. The email lets them know that we are still trying to find stock on the title.

As the definition indicates the item may or may not become available from the vendor so when will the orders dept. know for sure if they're indeed able to obtain additional inventory on a product that's classified as such?

I know that's not really a solid answer, but unfortunately it's the best answer I can give that covers titles labeled "On Order (Currently Unavailable)." If you would like information on a specific title I might be able to help a bit more.

We get a fair amount of requests similar to this, and it frustrates me that I can't be of more help. Usually, titles that fit this description aren't bestsellers - let's call them "B" list titles. A studio might run 5,000 copies of a "B" list title. Maybe it takes 6 months to sell through the 5,000 - with most of this quantity selling in the first month or so. The studio then needs to make the decision as to whether or not it's worth it for them to print another run, or let the title die (and most likely use the content for compilations). So they tally up their orders for the title, and make the decision accordingly. This is why it takes so long - if ever - for one of these titles to restock.
