I was wondering if anyone else is having issues with the adt mail? Today I have not received anything at all...not even any spam. But I've sent myself a message from another email account, and still haven't received it. I sent a message out and it was fine. I also didn't get "the weekly fix" in my email, I get it at another account too, so i can read it at places I can't get to this site at. Anyway was just wondering if there's any problem with the email server or something. Thanks in advance
The problem started a couple of days ago when I upgraded some of the Perl modules used by the mail program. I've contacted the program's auhtors to see if there's a fix. They generally respond within 24 hours.
The inbound mail is still sitting there on the server just waiting to be picked up by the ADT mail program. You'll get tons of mail when it's fixed.
Thanks for the info, Drew. I had been trying to contact RLD Fiend at his ADT mail account and the messages kept getting bounced back to me. I plan on contacting him again tommorrow so hopefully it will go thru with no problems.
It seems that the adt email problems which have been discussed in this thread recently have returned. Within the last few hours I expected some emails, but nothing has arrived in my inbox, so I sent an email to my adt address from another email account, but did not receive it.
Anybody else out there having these problems?
Hopefully Drew is able to fix it again. Many thanks in advance.
It looks like specially crafted emails are capable of crashing the service that processes them. I've forarded the info to the program's authors. I hope they can fix it.
Drew, it seems that emails got stuck again, nothing arrives in my inbox at the moment. Could you pick the mail up from whereever it is waiting and direct it into the inbox please, like you did yesterday?
Also, I understand you have an idea what the problem is, and informed the program's authors about it. Will you please post their answer in this thread to let us know if there will be a permanent fix.
There are multiple problems. Oen has to do with a Microsoft mail service unexpectedly stopping. The other has to do with the mail program. I am working on fixing these issues, however I will not post the details nor the response from the programs authors.
When I askled if you could post the response from the program's authors, it was not my intention to get any details I am not supposed to get. I was just interested to know if they have a permanent fix or not. However, since you are working on these issues, I guess there is a good chance for such a permanent fix anyway.
The root of the problem is that the program is written in Perl. The program is typically typically run on *nix/Apache platform with a MySQL database server. We don't run it that way so we sometimes uncover bugs that the programs author's haven't experienced and it takes them a little while to figure out what's going on and how to fix it. In the mean time I'll just have to monitor the mail service.
Drew, in the last few hours or so some emails made it to my inbox. However, not everything I am waiting for. Will you pick up the emails from whereever they are stuck periodically and forward them to the inbox(es), like you did yesterday? Thanks.
the mail is working fine at the moment and has been for most of the day today. If you didn't receive an email that you were expecting it's not going to show up.
I'd also like to add that if you're looking for better reliability in an email service please sign up for Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo or one of the hundreds of other places that are better alternatives.
