I’d just like to bring to your attention my new Yahoo! Club, ADICs: Adult DVD Image Captures. All of us here like to watch porn. But with so many titles out there, how do you know what to spend your hard-earned cash on? The discerning porn buyer will utilise the range of online adult movie review sites, such as the great ADT with its extensive collection of consumer reviews, to find the flick that suits him (or her). And while these resources provide a great means by which to find films which sound like your kind of thing, the textual description of the performers and action leaves your mind to conjure up an image of what’s happening on-screen; often, when you finally buy the flick, it just doesn’t look like you thought it would. It’s not surprisingly really, since porn is basically a visual medium which, I believe, demands a visual form of description.
The advent of the DVD has meant that it is now a simple matter for the consumer to produce digital-quality video stills from commercial films. This is done most easily with a DVD-ROM in a PC, using software MPEG decoders – I can personally recommend Intervideo’s WinDVD and Cyberlink’s PowerDVD, both of which have screen-capture features.
My intention with ADICs is to establish a collection of capture galleries, one per adult DVD film, each containing about 15-24 stills. These galleries should be of great use for porn consumers who want to “spy before they buy”, that is, to get a real idea of how a film looks. Equally, it will also stand as a collection of decent-quality hardcore porn “photos” – a noble endeavour in its own right! I will produce galleries with the films I buy (Diabolic’s Gangbang Auditions #3 is up), but I hope there will be large contributions from fellow digital porn-lovers who have the technology to generate captures. Hopefully, ADICs will come to be a useful resource in aiding the porn buyer to make better choices. Although ADICs may infringe the copyrights of DVD producers, so many DVD captures appear on more accessible free porn web sites that this doesn’t seem a practical problem [nervously awaiting Tricia’s response…). However I’d gladly hear from anyone with opinions or advice on the issue. Also, I’ll happily chat and answer queries from any DVD porn fans out there, so get in touch. And get capturing!
