I just activated Adult DVD Today in the Kickback program. You'll earn 5% back on your purchases make through their store.

At the moment they have a few coupons available to add to the savings.

Most folks don't realize that Adult DVD Today is in Hawaii. The time difference between the eastern US and Hawaii can be a huge advantage in processing orders. You can place an order as late as 10pm eastern time and Adult DVD Today will ship in-stock items the same day. Since the USPS has planes bound for New York and LA from Hawaii a few times per day Priority mail (which is free on orders of 4 or more DVDs) generally makes it to your door in about three days.

=================

Astroknight also had quite a good write up of his ordering experiences from them so far.

I then had a look at their international shipping rates, and they looked quite reasonable for small orders:
=================
International Rates: Flat Fee $4.95 Worldwide! (Limit 5 DVDs per Shipment)

It might be worth looking into for some of us..

cheers,

Along with our International rate of $4.95 for up to 5 DVDs we also have a $9.95 rate for up to 15 DVDs. This is for Global Priority Mail which usally takes around 4-5 days. Use one our $5 and $10 coupons with your order and it will pay for your shipping.

Thanks a lot for your comments, Noodlegirl!

Can I just ask if you can comment about your experience of reliability of Global Priority? This is not an insured or tracked shipping method, so you'll understand that some overseas customers who've lost shipments before may be reticent to use it, especially for larger orders, if they feel unsure of receiving their goods. What feedback have you had?

I used to shop a lot at AdultDVDNow and they use USPS Global Priority Letter i.e. in the small cardboard envelopes and I never lost one order. Not sure if noodlegirl is using the same method.

ADN used to ship without the boxes so it was quite successful in avoiding Customs. Fivestar offer this shipping option also but I can't comment on recent experiences using it because I tend to shop at Lasersedge these days. I remember most orders arrived under a week which was pretty good.

So far we have not had any problems at all with Global Priority Mail it has been very reliable and people have been receiving their orders within 4-5 days on average. Like Charlie said, we ship the DVDs without their cases using the Global Priority Envelops so they are very "custom friendly".

Thanks again for your comments. I can vouch for the idea that the Global Priority envelope is discreet - it's more like a document than anything else.

Edit - forgot to mention that I used the service that Charlie mentions too, which was very quick, no problem, but I did lose one package from FiveStar a while back, sent by this method (which they kindly replaced even though they were not obliged to do).

I also used to order frequently from Adult DVD Now and used their global priority envelopes. I never had a problem with the small (DVD-sized) ones they used and only once had one of their envelopes go missing (when they shifted to the A4 ones with other materials inside.)

I had a bit of a chat in email with Greg from ADToday and they are definately interested in providing good support and customer service to us, as well as "customs friendly" shipping, which I know is especially important to those of us in the UK.

Anyway, I placed an order with ADToday about 15mins ago, so I'll update on how and when the order arrives. - it might take a little longer for me to update since I'll be out of town for a few days next week.

My order from ADToday just arrived now in the mail, safe and sound, and unmauled by customs

5 DVDs, packaged securely, transit time was 6 days total from order to arrival, including one weekend and me placing the order when they were asleep.

Very happy with every step of the order, from the email CS before the order, fast kickback and order processing, and fast secure delivery. Lovely.

Yep, just discs and covers, makes for a much more subtle and importantly -fast- trip through the postal system.

The discs themselves were in those little cd-sleeve envelope things, so not loose or able to bounce around.

Got my first order through today, the 7th of July, from Adult DVD Today. It shipped on the 1st so that's not too bad. It did take far too long for the transaction to be approved, but I suspect that was down to my credit card co. and not to them. Anyway, as has been mentioned, the goods come discreetly packed in the neat Global Priority envelope with no indication of the contents. I feel encouraged to order again.

Placed my Order Monday Night, arrived this morning (Friday). You can't say fairer than that . . .

4 titles (7 discs cause one was Fashionistas) no Customs Molestation.

I'm sure I'll use them again.

I have just placed an order with Adultdvdtoday for 5 DVD's at $112 so i really hope there are no problems and they arrive by the end of the week.

If they get did get lost, will they be replaced? It would be very frustrating to waste over $100.

WOW!! My order has already been shipped in about two hours of placing it on Monday night. Does anybody know how long it will take to get to me in the UK and is it delivered by the standard Royal Mail or some other form of delivery?

J.C., it's probably best to give your order more then an hour to arrive before asking publically if it'll be replaced.

On a slightly different note, and especially ordering from the UK, you should be aware that HM Customs has a habit of "applying" whatever values they feel like at the time onto people's DVD orders, so if your order comes with a largish VAT bill attatched to it, that it's sadly not an unusual occurance or ADToday's fault.

Let us know when it arrives.

cheers mate,

Scipio, I was going to suggest the duty regime isn't quite as arbitrary as you imply, but after reading this page at the HM Customs and Excise site, which is supposed to inform you about charges, I am not much wiser about the specifics as duty will vary on the type of goods imported. If anyone can find specific figures, that would be great! Bear in mind the Customs site does say postal imports are different from personal (traveller's) imports.

However, if orders are over £18 you may be liable firstly for duty, and then VAT imposed on top of that plus the value of the order. Any duty/VAT will be collected by the Royal Mail, who charge their own fee for doing so, as well as opening and handling your package. No pun intended. Check the link above for info about gifts etc, which are a little different.

I know some UK ADT readers have been stung with such charges, but my experience has been that it is unlikely you will be charged at all if you use either a retailer who undervalues the goods on the customs value declaration or one who sends the goods as printed matter with no customs value declaration.

Edit: my random spelling of "arbitrary".

Yep, I was just speaking from some things I've read previously on this forum, where someone (and naturally, I don't recall who) had a package opened, and HM Customs decided to ignore the invoice that was enclosed and applied arbitrary valus to the DVDs themselves, then applied VAT.

Of course, with you here, I tend to just glance over the UK-specific threads, since I really don't know much about HM Customs, and we have you here for that sort of thing
not to mention the other UK regulars.

cheers,

scipio

That's right - as I still can't find any info about exact rates, it's good advice to new customers to be cautious and to check with a retailer as to whether they state the full value of the goods and whether they include an accurate invoice or not.

To keep this on topic, the vendor in question, Adult DVD Today, don't state a value nor do they include an invoice. I already mentioned their discreet shipping and I sincerely hope that it continues to be unlikely to attract attention. Fingers crossed, I've never had any packages from the US opened, seized or had duty imposed (by mail) though I am sure there will be a first time.

Ha! I can only give my experience of ordering and hope it's useful to others, as well as trying to rake out accurate information from HMCE (blood, stone, etc, you know) and other sources. HMCE is in serious and long overdue need of a shake-up - they're in trouble for losing numerous expensive court cases and generally acting like a law unto themselves. But that's another story!

I've got an order from ADToday on its way to me now, so I'm hoping there's no customs duty to pay! I've only had that situation occur once (ordering from AdultDVDUniverse) which was due to the sender marking the full value on the customs sticker. Although the package was never opened - the customs charge was just based on the marked value. So I won't buy from there again, unless I have no other option.

For us in the UK, valuation-friendly senders are important - one reason I like Lasers Edge. Hopefully ADToday will be similarly helpful.

Am i likely to have to pay any customs taxes on my order?
Does anybody from the UK know how they deliver, does it come in the morning mail could it be delivered at any time.

JC, I am not going to make you a promise, but I would hope that no, you are not likely to have customs charges imposed on your order from Adult DVD Today. The experiences listed above in this thread provide more info. My orders from them have arrived with my regular mail - Global Priority is an express service for post from the US Postal Service. Like Lance Armstrong delivering your letters...

Another gold star for ADToday - my order, which I placed on Monday night UK time, just arrived this (Friday) morning! It was shipped within 1 hour of me placing the order, and made the journey all the way from Hawaii to the UK in 3 days. Fantastic!!

Useful to see that they use a USPS global priority envelope, with printed papers declaration, so there was no customs sticker and no import tax for me. Very pleased with this service, and I shall be using these guys again for sure. Dare I say that Lasers Edge have a challenger for this forum's crown?!

I also ordered on Monaday night and recieved it this morning. I am very impressed with the speed of this service, shipped within a couple of hours and at my door in four days. There was no customs charges and the packaging is very discreet. I shall definitly place my next order with Adult DVD Today.

I'd say so, based on the latest evidence. Also they are in the Kickback scheme and have clear indication of whether an item is in stock, which is better than Laser's Edge.

Fantastic service to the UK - very fast and a sensible price for postage!

One suggestion however, if I can?

The envelope they ship in is about half the size of a DVD cover, which means they need to fold the cover in half.

This has resulted in very bad creases/fold marks down the spine of the cover.

Would it be possible for you to use bigger envelopes to save folding the covers and therefore not damaging them??

No major issue, but thought I would ask.

Thanks again for the super fast service.

Zorro,

We thought about the problem you had with the covers. The only thing we could suggest is if you ever want to place another order, please email us and ask us to send your covers separately from your DVDs. Then we would send your covers in a larger envelope and we will send them regular international mail and your DVDs Global Priority Mail. It will take longer than the DVDs to arrive but they wouldn't need to be folded. However, if your order 6 to 15 DVDS we can use the larger Global Priority Mail envelope and not have to fold your covers but the cost for the larger envelope to be shipped is $9.95 flat rate up to 15 DVDs.

If you have any other questions or suggestions please let us know.

Erm, but aren't DVD covers folded twice to make the spine anyway? Most retailers who send covers and discs just fold down one of those creases to make the cover flat. Either that, or fold down the centre of the spine part.

Maybe I'm just not really that worried about spine creases!

No its not normal Global Priority Mail should take about 4 to 6 days. Give it another day or so and if it doesn't arrive please contact Greg directly at greg@adultdvdtoday.com and we will send out another copy right away.

Timotei, this is how Adult DVD Today fold the covers. zorro's description is a little unclear if you've never seen their packaging.

Take one normal dvd. Remove the slick from the case and lay flat (open). Fold down middle. that's it. The crease is in the centre of the "spine" of the cover, they aren't folded a second time across the front as you may have read it.

------

ZamtheAssassin - don't stress too much yet . Global Priority on a good run can get to you in 4 days, but I've had them take up to 2 weeks to arrive at absolute worst. Remember the weekends also add "artificial" time to the delivery wait we all go through since many postal services don't process or deliver on the weekend. (and international mail has to go through customs, etc).

Actually, if customs decide to randomly have a look at your parcel, this can easily add 4 days to the delivery times as I know from having it happen too many times myself...

cheers,

scipio

Togusama,
I have looked in to your orders and this is what happened your order was shipped to Peru using the Global Priority mail envelopes however 6 days later your order came back to us and we were told by the post office that they do not except Global Priority shipping to Peru therefore we have reshipped your orders using the regular International Airmail. Sorry for this delay, and for your inconvenience I will email you a gift certificate for your future purchases. Please let me know if you have any further problems with your order. We will do whatever it takes to keep you as a customer.

Thank you

Hi Togosama and welcome to the forums.

While I don't want to discourage you from posting here, it's usually much better if you have a post to make like the one above for you to email it directly to the company in question, as I imagine most retailers here would check their email much more often then these forums.

If in future you have something like this, please use direct email. Luckily noodlegirl happened to see your post this time but she might have easily missed it for a week or more, when direct email would get to her or someone at AdultDVDToday immediately.

Of course if you have major problems or a great experience from any retailers, feel free to post here with details, etc, as well as any questions the forums members might be able to help you with.

cheers,

scipio
