Just wanted to see what you guys think about porn girls doing mainstream work. do you think it helps their career at all? I'm thinking about stormy daniels in "the 40-year-old virgin" and "knocked up", jenna haze in "superbad" and so on. I personally think things like that can take a girl to another level in porn but what do you guys think? The reason I ask is that I have a friend that is working on the "sex in the city" movie and I herad they may hire three porn girl for a scene in that movie (I heard Roxy DeVille, Monica Mayhem and Ryder Skye). What do you guys think? fixed subject} Edited by - heynow on Dec 19 2007

If a porn chick plays any of the following: Herself A Hooker A Stripper A Pornchick it isnt a mainstream role...it's typecasting. I think these three girls are simply going to be typecast. Its meaningless anyway I mean you hear about it all the time look at all the hype over alisha Klass(less) in center of the world or whatever it was...she played a stripper and was on screen maybe 2 secs. do you really think some shmuck say that and said wow Im gonna go see if I can find her in a porn movie? please....
I honestly never understood the big deal about porn girls making it into mainstream films. What’s the big deal? I am sure it’s a nice accolade and all but like Mike said they always get type cast, like the porn girls who were in Knocked Up and 40-Year0ld Virgin. And seriously, can anyone name a porn performer who went on to make a successful run in mainstream movies? I am sure it might get them more hits on their myspace page and maybe some extra money, but i doubt they will be walking down the red carpet with big time A-listers of Hollywood. Mike South-I agree 100%. My role in the sex and the city movie is none of the above. There is nudity involved, but I get to play a normal person. I'm kinda excited to do the movie. I hope nothing goes horribly wrong and I can't do it. My luck, I'll break my leg the day before the shoot... Do I think it'll make me more famous? maybe...maybe not. It obviously worked for Stormy. God knows, everybody in this industry knows she's been in a bunch of Seth Rogan's movies. Jenna was in that Eminem video. Brooke Banner was on Californication. Katja was on Entourage. See what I mean? Do I think it'll make the moviewatcher say "wow, that does porn?!? no way!! I'm going to check her out!!"? Absolutely. Are you kidding? Nobody gave a FUCK about Kim Kardashian until people found out that they could watch her suck cock on a video. Now she's a household name. Slighlty different circumstance, but do you see my point? What's the big deal? I told my sister who's a HUGE sex and the city fan about doing the movie and she flipped her lid. It's nice to have something that you've done as "Roxy DeVille" impress your little sister. That, and it's a fun change of pace. It's cool to see how real movies are made and be a part of it. Most people work their asses off for years at castings and dealing with background roles hoping to have their own scene in a HUGE movie. It's kinda fun to have it just fall in your lap. Did this answer any of your questions?
BTW my parts in the upcoming theatrical releases "Pineapple Express" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" are not hooker, stripper, or pornstar roles. In "Pineapple Express" I actually play the lead actor's wife. Of course in "40 Year Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up" and "Dirt" I played myself, but I guess I had to start somewhere...As long as the part wasn't demeaning or portrayed our industry in a negative way (I turned down the role Brooke Banner took in "Californication" and the one of the farting pornstar in "Weeds") I gave it a shot...you never know who you'll meet (Judd Apatow) and if they will like you and give you a better part next time. And you guys ask: "What's the big deal?" Aside from getting to see my name in the credits at a movie theater (screamed like a little girl the first time), it helped get me on lots of red carpets where I met lots of people who helped get me lots of other gigs (other parts, licensing deals, mainstream connections that helped me with "Operation Desert Stormy", etc.) The royalties are pretty fucking awesome too!!!

actually theres one porn performer who did hardcore who actually made it big lets see who knows their porn history here I will give ya some hints...it isnt marilyn chambers or tracy lords...they didn't make it BIG. aite lets see who gets this one
I will never forget the day I was in a major discount store with 5 of my friends and I was looking at the back boxcover of "40 Year Old Virgin" and it said: 'Actor/Co-Producer Seth Rogen has dinner with adult-film star Stormy Daniels' That is pretty crossover to me! A hit movie that acknowledges an adult-film star! It was very significant to me. Go Stormy Go! Den
Two names come to mind: 1.) Sonny Landham 2.) Simon Rex

BTW....I never said that I thought these girls would become successful mainstream acctresses. Just wanted to know if the publicity of being in a mainstream movie would help their porn careers. It seems that it definitly has in the case of Stormy especially. I think it will be a pretty cool thing to keep seeing her pop in some of these films and also for the girls that will be in "sex in the city". I also did see Brooke Banner in "californication" and am sorry that Stormy didn't do that one. It's a great series and no offense to Brooke, but Stormy would have been much better in that part.
Traci Lords did several movies and appeared on NBC's "Profiler" for 17 episodes and SciFi's "First Wave" for 17 episodes also. Probably the most successful crossover. Irish

I read somewhere that the reason directors cast porn girls in mainstream films is because the part involves nudity and the porn girls have no problem with it. They just do it, where as a mainstream actress makes a big fuss about it.
To my understanding it's never been proven that Stallone was really filmed in any hardcore though.

Traci Lords was at least as big in mainstream as Sonny Landham. Shit man, co-starring with Johnny Depp in a John Waters film (cry baby), one of the co-stars of Melrose Place, a lead in a cheesy sci-fi B-movie, not to mention "the profiler". It's not even close man.

Shit, but not checking this thread I didn't get to flex my 70s porn nerd muscle by guessing Sonny Landham. He was the man. Some other 70s era actors who did legit film or tv work: Veronica Hart Jamie Gillis Wade Nichols Eric Edwards
Never heard of Sonny Landham. I did a google search and still don't remember him. But, I have heard of Traci Lords. I am playing the CD 1000 Fires right now as I look at 3 of my full size (5' x 2') posters from Ice, A Time to Die and Intent to Kill. I am planning on reading her book 'Underneath it All'. Besides the many TV show appearances in recurring roles, I did make a copy of her being on Married with Children. I do remember her being in Penthouse magazine in the same issue as Vanessa Williams. Cry Baby was pretty good also. I have seen Traci Lords on Larry King Live at least 3 times. I wonder if you did a man in the street segment and asked the 100 adults if they ever heard of Sonny Landham or Traci Lords, who would win? I know that this is not fair because I just don't remember Sonny Landham even after finding him in IAFD. Den

^ Right on Den! With production from Babble (ex-Thompson Twins), writing by the KLF's Ben Watkins and Mike Edwards of Jesus Jones, here in Hollywood back in the mid-90s her album "1000 Fires" (especially for the track "Control") was a huge influence on rave/club culture. Traci's songs have appeared on several soundtracks, including Denzel Washington's "Virtuosity." She's kept pretty good musical company down through the years too, singing on "Little Baby Nothing" by the Manic Street Preachers and "Somebody To Love" by The Ramones. "1000 Fires" also got her gigs in Guess Jeans commercials the year it was released (1995).
Hah, that's that guy! I think there are probably others who've worked in more behind-the-scenes areas, pseudonymously and so forth, Wes Craven supposedly for instance.

^ It was not uncommon for 60s/70s directors to shoot 35mm porn features before "stepping up" into the world of horror and softcore exploitation. In addition to Craven, his "Last House On The Left" partner Sean Cunningham (future director of the original "Friday The 13th") started in adult as well, as did William Lustig, director of the infamous "Maniac" and today CEO of Anchor Bay. "Feature Side" posters may remember two movies Lustig directed under the name "Billy Bagg" - "The Violation Of Claudia" and "Hot Honey."
This is very true. Honestly i had know idea who Kim Kardashian was until the DVD came out. i knew the last name because of her dad, but beyond that i had no clue. By the way Roxy, congratulations and good luck with the Sex and the City role. i hope you don't break a leg or anything else beforehand. TROY
She was also on Roseanne for three or four episodes. She also released a electronica/dance/rock CD in 1995 Traci Lords 1000 Fires And sang on a couple tracks on the Manic Street Preachers release [ invalid url ]
I'm not saying she is more popular than Sonny, but she seems to always work steadily. Edited by - IWAdult on 12/20/2007 7:35:51 PM

Jesse Capelli had an extremely brief, but unforgetable (and pretty funny) scene in the mainstream spoof flick, "Not Another Teen Movie". She plays the Naked Girl (just glorious) at the party who's mad that "Aeriola" for wearing the same outfit. "Aeriola" is the girl who never wears Any clothes at any point during the entire film. i watched this scene in slow motion a number of times

Wes Craven, Sean Cunningham, Chuck Vincent and Greg Dark all did some 'mainstream' low budget films too. Gary Graver did a lot of good work as a cinematographer, including working with Orson Welles on F for Fake.
Did anyone mention Ashlyn Gere? In addition to being one of the most beautiful adult film stars from the 80's and 90's, she made a fairly decent transition to mainstream. Only got some bit parts, but did ok for herself I think. Played on X-Files, Space: Above and Beyond, Millenium, Silk Stockings, Jet Li's "The One" and several others. She was also the body double in Basic Instinct. Smart gal too....double major from Univ of Nevada. Edited by - lubenluv on 12/24/2007 1:02:00 AM
I think it's very nice to see porn performers in mainstream movies and why not mainstream actors and actresses in porn films. In a mainstream movie, whether the porn girl is playing a sex-worker or a non sex-worker doesn't really matter much to me. P.S. I would like to see more of Jenna Haze and her pretty legs, whether in porn or in mainstream. Another 2 girls I would like to see in mainstream movies are Mindy Main and Staci Thorn, and these girls are just perfect to play the sex-worker role.
Sonny Landham ran for political office in his home state of either Kentucky or Tennessee. nobody has guessed the other person was it: Marilyn Monroe(Norma Jean)(coke bottle porn film 1946/1947)? Joan Crawford(Lucille LeSeur) raucous porno she did with another girl in her youth in the 1920s)? There's your porn history.
I congratulate you on your mainstream success. I think you're a very fine actress and have been quite pioneering. However, given your friendship with Judd Apatow, couldn't he have written you into "Walk Hard?" That movie had SO many cameos. If Frankie Muniz could be Buddy Holly, Jack Black be Paul McCartney and Jack White be Elvis, what rock/music legend could Ms. Daniels have played? The mind boggles... Brian P.S. The obvious one would be Dolly Parton given the early "Walk the Line" focus, but I think Stormy Daniels would have been a great Janis Joplin or Debbie Harry...
Judd didn't directly cast this one, but I did audition for it. They really wanted to use me but since it was a "period" piece, my breasts were too big. I will be in his next two release though..can't win em all :)
Definitely can't win 'em all Stormy, but you do seem to win your fair share!:)Loved your scene in the BluRay "Superbad" disc. Funny stuff. Congrats on your upcoming mainstream work as well as all your success in the mainstream and adult industry so far. Best wishes for continued success. May I also comment that I feel you have perfect comedic timing. Loved you in the "Superbad" extra, and I found your work in "Operation: Desert Stormy" was fantastic. You bring such a work ethic and professionalism to all you do(not to mention your beauty as well). The hard work and effort you put into your films really shows in the finished product. I can't wait for your next film appearance. With the talents you have demonstrated in all your previous work, I truly believe you will have a bright and long future ahead of you in whatever you decide to undertake. Looking forward to seeing you in "Pineapple Express" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" in 2008. Sounds like a great part in "Pineapple Express" by the way!!!

I just saw a small teaser for Pineapple express and it does look like it will be a good one. Congrats Stormy... mainstream is hard to break into and you are doing really well. It started there and it was brutal, after about 10years I gave it up with a very broken ego. What I find funny is that it wasn't until after I started porn that I was casted for the part in the "Sex In The City" Movie. My first Sag card and it is after I quit my mainstream attempt... quite ironic.
