Many “proud” performers have said that they would discourage their 21 year old children and siblings from entering the business. Anti-Porn zealots see this as clear proof that on some level porn actresses/actors are ashamed of their profession. It only gives them more validation that porn is immoral. Why would a performer who claims to be proud of being a porn star, object to their 21 year old children following the same career path?
So therefore I feel compelled to ask this question to adult performers in this forum: Would you object to your 21 year old children being porn stars? If you would oppose, don’t you think it is hypocritical?
P.S. I do empathize with the uneasiness of the thoughts of our children(21 years) or future children being sexualized but they are sexual creatures. To have credibility in our moral defense of explicit erotica we should support their decision to enter any aspect of the sex industry as long as it is safe and non-degrading. That goes for porn fans, actors, actresses and directors.
Most 21 year olds that are of sound mind and body have reached the age of consent to have sexual relations and are legally considered adults. As such, they don't need their parents permission to pursue a career in porn.
yes and can I add a few other professions that do not want their syblings to be involved in the same profession as them: Boxing Acting Mining Toilet Attendant Soldier
does that make all or any of the professions above immoral Huggins293??
and if you think a 21 year old can seriously be classed as a child I think you might need to take a raincheck.
I think most people would not want their children in porn because of the social stigma still attached to being a pornstar. It is an occupation that will forever be synonymous with prostitution in the minds of many. Parents want to be proud of their children and one of the main ways they can do so is by seeing their children accepted socially. That's why parents bring video cameras to awards ceremonies and recitals. They want to capture their child being admired by society (or whatever subset of it is in the audience).
If a career in adult films was as socially accepted as a career in mainstream acting then im sure more parents would have less objections.
Parents also want their children to be "good" at something. That is, to succeed in a career that requires mental and/or physical agility. Pornography requires neither. A parent would more quickly accept a porn director than a porn actor due to this (IMHO). That's also why toll collectors, garbagemen, janitors, etc are looked down upon. Anyone can do their jobs.
Last, a parent is always scared of their child being the victim of psychological and/or physical trauma. I honestly feel that my daughter would not be ready to deal with the taxing demands of the industry (mentally mostly) until she was past the age that most girls are filmed at.

How interesting. My little sister, who just turned 18 this year, is entering a miss jr america pageant next month - she said "I might as well get something from this body.". My daughter (who is not of age to decide what color socks to wear, let alone anything else) hopes that Hugh Hefner doesn't die before she turns 18 because she wants to be a Playboy Bunny - excuse me, not just "a" bunny, but one of Hef's special girls. My 22 yr. old son has asked me if I thought he would do well in porn.
I have not discouraged any of them from exploiting their bodies and talents.
I told my son that porn is a lousy excuse for sex, and that the money isn't that great, especially for guys, until you get a popular name - but not that he shouldn't do it. He decided to get his mechanic's certification instead - he got a promotion last month! My little sister hopes to find cash positive things to do with her body that don't involve sex, but she has considered dancing. I told her if she made that choice I would take her to a good bar and not let anyone take advantage of her inexperience. She's just finishing up her first semester at college. Each time my daughter mentions being a Playboy bunny I remind her that Hef's gals aren't dummies. One is an attorney! She is very focused on her swimming and plans to go to college, and hopes to get a swimming scholarship. She made the honor roll again this semester.
I don't consider porn, or other sex industry jobs, to be poor occupations for my loved ones. I will do my best to inform them and not let them choose ANY job, sex industry or otherwise, that doesn't suit them or their goals. I am always saddened when I come across someone who has made a career choice that makes them miserable. No matter whether they made it out of desperation, ignorance, or simply by mistake, I feel bad for them. There is a great deal of disinformation out there about the porn industry and the sex industry in general. It seems glamorous. It looks like quick, easy money. I certainly doesn't look dangerous - at least not in the bad dangerous way. Reality doesn't quite match. It doesn't make porn immoral (I have NO morals - that's a religious construct), but it does make it something to be examined and not entered into lightly. No more or less than any other significant career.
Personally speaking, I wouldn't have any problem if my children wanted to do porn once they became of age but I don't think I would be too thrilled seeing my daughter getting double analed on film. If thats what she really wanted to do, so be it. My younger sister (who's in her 30's) has worked at strip bars and has done a few nude photoshoots for the Net but I don't think she's done anything really hardcore as far as I know and if she has, who am I to stand in her way?
I'm a Christian but I like my fair share of porn. I believe if you keep SSS in mind -- Safe, Sane, and Consensual... and are well-informed before making serious decisions, then by all means have at it. I like the porn where the women look like -- and I hope they are! -- truly enjoying themselves. I don't like the ones where it looks like they're forced to suffer on camera for someone else's wanking off. Be aware of the few rewards for the many risks -- but the same could be said for showbiz in general so I by no means compartmentalize unfairly.
It is a lousy excuse for sex? Are you saying the sex is not that great. From where I am standing it is a perfect excuse for sex. Where else can you have casual sexual behavior with the lowest chance of consequences(disease, pregancy, someone becoming emotionally committed)
Janine has stated that porn is the perfect haven to act out sexual fantasies that she probably couldn't act out as much in real life.
If I entered porn it would not just be for sex, I would use as political form of expression.
Kim, you have to be one of the top interviewing subjects in porn land right up their with Tera Patrick. Thanks for your insight.
P.S. How much do you think the average porn actress makes and the average porn actor makes? Since I am contemplating entering this later on, it would be nice to know. Thanks again.
Mom mom would refer to my brother and myself as children. Simply trying to make a distinction between a 5 year old child and offspring. Sorry to offend you. P.S. I am certainly not trying to say porn is immoral.
Very mature answer. I agree I would not be thrilled seeing my daugher getting double analed. I may watch my son fuck some hotties though. It may be a way of male bonding. I know most smart people know this but that does not make me an incest perv. I am watching my son for the hotties not to lust after him.
I think the decision to enter the world of porn (and it in fact is more of a journey with many steps along the way), like so many others, should be carefully considered for the long term. I've seen good advice given by porn stars themselves here... including the fact that once you do porn, it'll always be out there, especially with the Internet.
Yes, I am saying that porn performances are not great sexual experiences. Sorry I allowed my midwestern interpretation of English to get in the way.I haven't been interviewed in years. I'm old news.
As a director and ocassional performer, I'd have to say that I would certainly have no problem with my theoretical kids making the decision to perform explicit sex on film for public consumption -- I would have an issue, at least with a daughter, of not wanting to see her subjected to the meat-grinder of the porn INDUSTRY itself here in L.A. Unless she was gonna be a Vivid contract girl from day one.
(Which considering what her genetic background would be, is kinda unlikely, unless she took 100 percent after her mom :) ....)

"The objectification and commodification of human sexuality beats flipping burgers or selling real estate any day. Even if it smells worse."
Can you describe what this "meat-grinder" of the porn industry is? I am very curious. Yes, I heard vivid is a pretty good company to work for. I find it funny that I have to defend watching the shit because it is said to be "stale"
aspergian, I proabably should bite saying this but how can you support even mainstream sexual Christian philosophy and buy porn? I just want to understand how you reconcile that philosophy with a artform that boastly celebrates lust as an independent substance(sex for its own sake).
I just don't see how even interpreting those text in a liberalized manner can prevent one from interpreting Christian moral sexual philosophy as undeniably hostile toward celebrating soveriegn lust.
Hey, it's a valid question to ask. I love Jesus Christ, but I certainly don't agree with a lot of what the Bible says. Do I think there untruths in the Bible, major ones even? Certainly. If God's perfect and humans aren't, then human language is by nature flawed. Not to mention very simple explanations like how the text has been translated and mangled over the years. I can't say I'm a mainstream Christian, oh no. So for me, "Christian" might kind of be a vague label, but if there needs to be a term, it's good enough for me. That or "Jesusian". What is it with labels anyway? Michael Stipe said they are for canned food =)
I'm not going to get into a moracle debacle but I know what feels good to me, and it's generally agreed on that sex feels good to people. And why is it we can show so much violence on TV and not more sexuality presented in a positive, open way? These questions can't be answered and people struggle in a cycle of temptation.
I think too much of the LUST and PORNOGRAPHIC stuff in the Bible that God supposedly smiled upon is glossed over (nice site: evilbible.com)... hey, really, King Solomon sure did like to fuck *wink*... and I'm in line with the "safe, sane, & consensual" philosophy. I believe good porn can make a couple's sex life more exciting, or give them ideas or at least some fun.
I think too many Christians say too much and do too little. And when it comes down to their actual acts, they are all like judgemental and present themselves poorly when it comes to things they just don't get and never will because they don't want to listen or watch. Like porn.
Every line of work has its bad apples -- there are bad cops, and there's certainly exploitation and bad things that happen in porn. There will continue to be such things. But I support the right to make informed decisions and I support the right to a healthy, more fulfilling sex life. Yes, one can get addicted to porn. But addiction to most things is BAD -- alcoholism, drug abuse.
So I like porn. Not all porn. But some porn. Hope this clarifies things, thanks for asking. :D
