I was reading the May issue of Adult Video News on the web and there was a cover article on The Men In Porn. Rather than showing an attractive man on the cover, there was a woman over whom was superimposed tiny snapshots of mens' upper torsos. I was disgusted. You'd think Adult Video News might at least have put a good looking man on the whole cover. I think it shows that Adult Video News is homophobic - it's my view that they don't want to put anything that is male-related on the cover just in case it suggests homoeroticism. This is truly a pathetic attitude on the part of Adult Video News.
Moreover, where was the coverage of the men in gay porn? There was zilch. Need I say more as to the perceived homophobia of Adult Video News?
Really now, how many couples of copies of the May AVN would fly off the newsstands with Tony T. or Brian Surewood posing seductively on the cover?
Need I say more as to the perceived homophobia of Adult Video News?
Please don't.

Tony T or Brian Surewood might not sell but Julian or Dale DaBone sure would. Let me stress again: the cover article was The Men In Porn, not The Women in Porn.
But the only person I have heard voice such a perception is you and you have made your views quite clear. You also think everything shows AVN is homophobic, from their award ceremonies to their choise of ink. If it disturbs their readership enough, then their sales will go down. If enough of the potential market for their magazine doesn't care or doesn't see that this issue exists, then they stay alive. Have you once shown that a significant percentage of the market for straight porn in fact wants to see male bi-sexuality? If not, this is not an issue for them. Have you once tried to answer a post that questions your point or do you only repeat yourself ad naseum?

arthur - you are obsessed with AVN. I would advise you to stop reading the magazine. Complaining regularly on our message board is not going to change AVN. All it's going to do is annoy most people and amuse some people. Give it up. I don't see anyone else even mentioning AVN here. Don't they have some message boards you can use to bitch about their mag?

For it's May of 2000 issue, AVN had a cover that focussed on the GaY2K GaYVN 2000 Awards. The cover has 3 men on the cover. http://www.adultvideonews.com/archives/200005/index.html At the Hilite adult bookstore, in San Diego, this issue was a terrible seller. One of the managers said that this was the worse selling AVN in the history of the store. Even when the magazine became a back issue and the magazines were heavily discounted from their original price, it took a very long time to sell all of them.
arthur - make your opinions known, loud and proud. Write to AVN.
Seriously mate, posting stuff here on ADT isn't going to change AVN. All it shows is that you feel strongly enough to post about it over and over on a non-affiliated message board that has no pull or power over AVN (ADT could almost be seen as closer to a competitor than an influence). That really doesn't say much to AVN at all.
So if you're in any way serious about your little crusade, and aren't just a semi-amusing troll, I'd suggest you go here http://www.avn.com/forums/ and make your opinions known to the people that actually matter at AVN. I think the AVN forums are more relevent to change at AVN then the forums at ADT. Makes sense, right?
Better yet, type up a real paper-and-ink letter and send it through the US Mail to them. Everyone knows that physical mail carries more of a psychological and emotional weight to it than an email. Then after you've done this, get all your friends, your fellow militant bisexual activists that make up "the mainstream" to band together and write AVN some letters of their own.
As far as a letter-writing campaign, I've always found the "shotgun method" to be most effective. That's where you find out the names of everyone who might have an influence in the matter and write to them individually.
This increases your chances of finding someone who will take up your issue seriously. Do NOT do this via email - if you were to do this via email, it'd be considered spamming, but via the regular post it's taken differently for some reason. Probably because of the aforementioned weight given to a "real" letter.
I'd suggest that finding out who these people are at AVN would be exceedingly easy - just look for the writing and editorial staff credited inside the magazine and send all correspondence to those individuals c/o AVN at the address supplied in the magazine.
Once you and your supporters have papered the floor at AVN, they will know that you're serious about the issue and (probably) are not alone. You might want to get your friends together and direct-purchase as many copies of the issue that Jamie Gardner was kind enough to link. Direct-purchase them off AVN, not indy bookstores. You want to make AVN feel the purchasing power of your movement, since if anything will help them change their opinions, it's the almighty dollar.
Yes there's a sarcastic tone to this post. But if you read the content, it's all valid advice if you really have any interest in your crusade. It'd get you a lot further than posting the same fucking topic here on ADT over and over again.
I've got no problem with hot women on the cover. But it's the height of ludicrous to illustrate a cover story on the men in porn with a picture of a woman. Absolutely the height of ludicrous.
As to the advice given to me by others on this thread, thank you, I appreciate it.
They have this funny desire to sell issues and have numbers to justify their ad rates. This allows them to do things like keep the lights on and keep a paycheck. Experience with previous issues like the one Jamie Gardner pointed out has probably taught them that there is little demand for content that implies bisexuality on the cover. In fact it may even have an adverse effect. Lowest selling issue ever. That means only the die-hard regulars bought it. This is a major marketing issue. People who are totally neutral on any social agenda but with an interest in money would definitely learn a lesson from this.
I only read it for release dates and to see what the boxcovers look like (as a retailer), if you're not online the articles might be of some interest if it's a slow day.

croy,
Not all issues are going to fly out the door. And if that particular issue didn't sell well it's probably got more to do with the quality of the cover rather than the issue of male bisexuality. If they had put a hot chick and a couple of guys on the cover, it would have made it more appealing to homophobes.
Worst selling issue ever is a pretty clear statement. Not average, not slow, worst ever. Appealing to homophobes or appealing to straight men? Two different things. You can make up reasons why, but I'm guessing it isn't because everybody decided to peruse the contents and decide they didn't like that month's reviews.
I'd like to see male porn stars get a little more exposure but then again I consider myself semi-bisexual (ie. I like men for certain activities if the guy is a major hottie but not for relationships or cuddling. LOL).

Croy,
If you can't provide the sales figures for the issue concerned then I will take what you say with a grain of salt. By the way, what was the second-worst selling issue ever? One with a woman on the cover? If that's the case, then why put a woman on the cover? I say this to point out the flaw in your argument.
I'm not homosexual like you but I actually agree with you. It is a bit disrespectful to have a cover story on the 'men in porn' and then superimpose women's bodies over them.

When did I say I was homosexual? You shouldn't jump to conclusions about my sexuality on the basis of my posts. I personally subscribe to Kinsey's view that most men have bisexual feelings.
No offence taken. I suppose there's a broader theme that, in today's society, there is little room for flexibility in perceptions of male sexuality. You're either straight or you're gay. It's a false notion that's propagated not just by straights but also by gays.
Just as an aside, I was discussing this with an acquaintance the other day. We both agreed that most men had bisexual feelings but that many do not act upon them. He thought that 70% straight/30% gay was a cut-off point at which a man would not act out his gay impulses.
Ahh, so this is what they are talking about. Dude, porn is bought mostly by straight men. Once again, 18-34 demographic. I highly doubt people are homophobic considering in most gonzo nowadays you have multiple guys to a scene.
Once again, it's financial, not sexual. Erik Everhard is a fine looking gentleman, but pictures of Tianna Lynn's ass is gonna move more copies than his.
It's never been proven conclusively that all men have bisexual tendencies. You are either straight , gay , or bisexual. Nothing wrong with either but I certainly do not buy this idea that all men have bisexual tendencies !!
If's it's about AVN, or the industry treating gay porn exactly the same as straight porn or guy/guy scenes being required in straight films...Arthur has an poorly thought-out position on that topic. Regardless of the number of reason that people have pointed out exactly why Arthur is wrong, his opinions are not ones that will ever change.
The world should change to fit Arthur's odd perception of how it should exist.
Thanks for your concern. If the administrators feel that arthur, or anyone else, for that matter, is abusing his posting privileges they will take appropriate action.
In the meantime, if you find yourself at odds with another poster's comments and are unable to carry on a civil conversation about it with said poster, then I recommend you ignore him.
It gives me practice argueing against circular arguements that don't acknowledge any facts that may disprove the initial arguement. More useful in the real world than it should be. The stuff coming out of his keyboard is funny. It is full of assumptions that 'prove' his main point while having little anchor in reality. This from a person who insists on hard numbers for arguements against his main point. I am curious if anything every gets through. If I see it, it is like winning the lottery. These posts are coming closer together, unlike the DAP threads or 'the hottest black women in porn' threads. I figure when they come two minutes apart a whole new brave world of bisexuality will be born from arthur's head. One with its own laws of physics, pychology, and logic.
