Hi all

Would like to get some titles from Adult Video Universe for shipping to the UK. Has anyone in the UK ordered from them? What were your experiences? They only thing that worries me slightly is that they state they always declare the full value of your purchase on the package. Are customs likely to open the package, or just slap on a charge? (or both!)

Having ordered many things from the States I find the prospect of a charge bad enough. I recently bought a resin Figure (FFVII Sephiroth if you're interested) for about $250 and convinced the guy to put a lower declaration. The fella put $100 but with the $30 shipping I paid 2% duty on $135 plus 17.5% of that total which came to aroun £13 - parcelforce then charged me another £13 for dealing with customs!! As far as customs/parcelforce is concerned it is reasonable to be expected to pay £26 on an item that, as far as they knew, was only worth about £60-65!!

I believe you are allowed £18 allowance or £36 if it's a gift (although this includes shipping cost as well so be careful) so if your order is under this you're okay; if not I'd go elsewhere. I reckon that over the basket of goods I've imported I've had to cough up on about a third of items over the duty threshold so there is also a lot of luck involved.

To your other point, I haven't found attracting duty makes much difference on whether a parcel is opened or not. I've had opened items below duty thresholds and unopened items that attracted duty.

Thanks for the info! I might still go with Adult Universe as they are the cheapest for the titles I want to get. Looks like there's no avoiding customs though!

Aside from duty issues, what difference would it make if the package was opened? I'm sure they'll let it through anyway if it's porn available in the US because it fits the guidelines. It's porn you order from other parts of Europe (with fisting, bestiality or watersports for instance) that risk being confiscated.

Yeah, I've bought from them once. It arrived OK, unopened, but I did have to pay a charge on it. With that, it worked out more expensive than getting from somewhere else, so I'd do the sums if you're planning to use AVU. In fact, I think my order (2 titles) would have still worked out cheaper if I'd ordered in two separate lots, and paid the AVU delivery fee twice.

I doubt customs will open it.
