However, a friend asked me to meet her for dinner just after Friday night, so I went for an hour. Then someone else asked for help working her booth, so BAM! I ended up there all three days. The turnout was actually more impressive than I had expected - but no one was spending any money! Guys/girls: If you are going to attend a convention, plan on spending at least a few dollars or stay home. Using zoom lenses to get free shots of the talent and not eing willing to pay for a pic with them, buy a DVD, poster, etc is just plain greedy. We are ALL being hit by the recession. If you don't have the bucks, thats understandable - but if you can spend the money on gas, parking, food, etc, surely you can spend a few dollars on merchandise. These performers aren't there just for the hell of it, they have expenses to meet as well. Enough sermonizing...now for the good stuff: "I like to watch" [Link]

What do porn actresses expect the person to do with the picture, show it to their friends? They will probably throw the picture out in the next 30 days. I would never pay money for an autograph photoshop airbrush like playboy photo. I prefer my own untouched, non-airbrushed, and non-photoshop photos. I do not buy overprice DVDs while I can get it cheaper online. I would never buy any adult porn actress or celebrity posters. I do not hang any posters in my house; it is not classy. I am not greedy, but I am frugal. I spend money on what I need. I do not spend money on crap like overprice DVD, poster, get you get picture with a prostitute, etc. I am not a single porn actress fan, I do not watch any porn actress more than once, so my thinking might be different. If Adultcon or porn actresses want attendants to pay for photo, put out a sign to ban all cameras; then, see if the attendants will increase or decrease. Are porn actresses there to give back to the fan, or charge outrageous price for a photograph of a fan who supported and requested them? It seems like porn actresses want fans to buy their DVDs, but porn actresses do not want to give back to the fans. I do go to auto shows, and when I do, what is wrong with taking pictures of the models and cars. Do I need to pay GM, Ford, Ferrari, etc for an authentic photo? MrBenGrim - The convention in June is Erotica LA, It has (I believe) been cancelled this year. Adultcon has been going on since about 2001 or 2002, if I remember correctly. They are more happy if you buy a DVD from them, or a picture for them to sign for you. The girls are there to meet and greet, but it's also an opportunity to make some money. They don't expect it from every fan, but they're working so... I should point out that DVDs from the stars are actually a good deal (usually). WAY less than local stores and comparable (if not better) than online prices. Plus you know that the actress herself is getting some of the money you paid. I think that's very cool. Many (most?) girls seem to charge something for posing for a picture with fans. I'm fairly certain I've seen quite a number of girls posing with fans for free. It's quite a compliment to them that so many people want to take their pictures both alone and with them (the fans). Most girls have signed what I bought them (never more than 2 or 3 items) without batting an eye. One, who was really, really nice, (but I won't name) charged for each item signed. I think if you're generally nice and try to do as others do at these conventions you'll do fine. Also, last time I went to an auto show, I saw a bunch of people taking pictures of the models and cars, yet no models or car manufacturers requested a payment. Click to expand Yeah, you're not really making a fair comparison. A porn convention is a fan convention. It's more like going to a Star Trek convention or something else where people get to meet the stars that they like. Many "stars" at fan conventions charge for autographs, whether it be the late James Duhan (Scotty from star Trek), or any number of old time baseball players making lots of cash signing pictures and baseballs. Porn stars are "stars" but they aren't paid like Hollywood A list celebrities. Their opportunities for making money are far different; a convention is one of those opportunities, just like it is for an obscure actor from a sci-fi show, or a baseball player who's been retired for 30 years. They all would like to get paid for coming out to see their fans. Car shows are a combination of a trade show and marketing. Porn conventions are doing some marketing, but it's primarily a fan convention. The aims are different. In any case, if you don't want to pay when you go, you don't have to. The only thing that's mandatory is paying to get in the door. I'd still advise you to be polite and try to do as others do. Dr. P [Link]

For the AEE convention in Las Vegas, it's probably the biggest meeting place for adult entertainers, studios, exhibitors, and fans in the West Coast. Going there for all three days will cost you over $200. Having gone there for 2008 and 2009, you did not have to pay extra for photographs or pay extra for posing with the stars. For the major studios, you will line up to get their portrait photo with their signature, and they pose for photos. If you want to buy movies/calendars/other stuff, then they got a display case available. As for other models, they did not ask for tips or fees. For the gentleman clubs that were there, fans did give tips. I would say for certain that the asking of extra fees or tips was not really existent. I believe the studios took care of everything given it was the first and biggest event of the year. For Exxxotica, it was more prevalent. For the major studios, they did give out signed photos and they will pose for photos, but they will likely try to sell their DVDs too. For the stars that are around the Treasure Island booths, some may offer to sign photos and pose for nothing, some may charge $5, and they get to sell their signed DVDs. (i.e. Jesse Jane brings her own photo printer if you want to have a photo with her. You can definitely use your own camera, but that's the catch) For the Exxxotica girls that are found around the show, they will ask for tips if you want to take a photo with them or you take a lot of photos of them. For other models that are there with vendors, they will also be selling their photos/videos or asking for tips for photos. But if you see your favorite porn star, buy something from her. In most cases, buying just one thing could make the rest of your show experience a lot more easier. For Erotica LA, it was kinda in between. Given it's LA and most porn stars are there, the studios took care of the major entertainers and the rest were found selling their merchandise. A few were asking for money for photos posing with them. Dancers at the various booths would get tips. You might find a few stars walking around the show posing for photos and getting a few bucks. But I would say this, if you see good-looking adult star asking for tips and no one is stepping forward, be that person and give a few dollars.
