hi i regularly buy used items from adultdvdempire without problems. in my last order i received 2 dvd-r, when i mailed and complained they said "Some studios actually burn discs to save costs. Unfortunately since we only receive the finished product we have no way of knowing which disks are burned and which are not" Apparently they inspect the disks to rate the quality of used items on sale, so they could have seen that they were dvd-r then. the films in question are pimped by an angel - sky/brianna banks and 18 Inch Club i will look into it further myself later, but i am a bit cheesed off with their reply as i feel cheated, i thought if they were dvd-r you had to say so. any advice appreciated.
Some companies do use DVD-R's. I don't know about those specific titles but I have used DVD Empire for years and only received one DVD-R from them, from a company that I found out does release on DVD-R.
Of course it matters, i chose to buy originals which i foolishly thought were pressed. Dvd-r have major compatability issues and do not store the data as securely, any slight marks/damage and a dvd-r is usually wrecked. Pressed dvds on the otherhand can usually be restored to a playable condition quite easily. 'Knock off Nigel' supplies dvdrs, and so can anyone it seems as long as they blame the studio.
I have bought quite a lot off them and this is the first time i have received dvd-r. What really narks is if they had been listed as dvdr i would not have purchased them. Dvdr are inferior to pressed disks and as such are best avoided. I will not be buying anything off them in the near future as i have no objection to them selling dvd-r, but would like it written in the description. When you press the button to purchase it says 'buy it on dvd' not ' buy it on dvd-r'
I think they don't know when they are, when I contacted them about mine they didn't know the company was using them and when I contacted the company they confirmed it. Some companies switch back and forth, for instance VCX has used DVD-R's in the past and some are still out there. Extreme Associates has used DVD-R's in the past and some of theirs are still out there. Unless a company tells the distributor, that then tells the store, what each shipment is, I think it would be hard for them to be accurate on what media the disc is. Avoiding DVD Empire won't solve your problem as the companies that use DVD-R's are still going to be DVD-R's through other stores, the best way to solve the problem is to avoid companies that use DVD-R discs.
No, of course they new, the films were used and had been inspected and rated as acceptable. As they had inspected them they could have just put dvd-r after the acceptable. I remember a while back, I bought a 666 title from a company based in the UK. Got it through the post and as soon as I tried playing the damned thing, it paused and jerked and eventually stopped playing altogether. It was a dvd-r. So, I sent it back and they sent me another one. Same story again. Eventually, I just chose a different title. Looks like they don't sell GGG/666 anymore.
I have 'Pimped by an Angel' which i bought a few years back from a US store. Having just checked, it is an original pressed dvd....so i'm guessing this title is only recently being put on dvd-r? I'd probably let it go if you wanted an original (with cover, perfect condition) and not a dvd-r replacement.
I know, ORGAZMIK. It wasn't an original German 666 because the cover and the screen menu was in French. It was clearly burned onto a DVD-R. I remember, it was "Ich Schwimm in Pisse & Sperma" and I was really annoyed because I was really looking forward to watching it. Anyway, I got it from Bukkakeshop.com a couple of days ago and it works like a dream!
I'm happy to read that customers think the same like we do regarding DVD-R. I cannot support publishers that start to release on DVD-R, it's just too lame. The industry wants people to buy their products and not to illegally download them. If the customer decides to spend money on a real product he should get a real product. Orgazmik is taking off all titles from the catalog if they turn out to be DVD-R. This happened for example with Ribu, a well known german company that has good classics. They have decided to releases everything on DVD-R. It's specially stupid since those guys that like classics usually collect them. Who would want to collect a DVD-R? I talked to them personally telling them it's a bad idea but they don't get it. Too bad...
What gets me is how can they prove a dvd-r is an official release? With very little effort anyone could run off a load of copies and claim they were original. And i fully support your removing items from your catalogue if they are dvd-r. Surely they must realise it is not in their best interests to use dvd-r.
Lot's of european studios now release movies on DVD-R. We also have same troubles with customers, who ask us about original fabrically printed versions, but it's not exist. Typically it's happens with backprogramm movies. Studios print some quantity of DVD's at fabric and when they sell it, they begin to use DVD-R media. Difficult to change something here, it's politics of manufacturers. They offer DVD-R printed version at the same price as typical DVD's.
Well that could be why i avoid them then. From now on i am avoiding any studio that releases an official product on dvd-r. If there is a chance it could be dvd-r, that is a chance i will not be taking. There are plenty of companies out there who only use pressed disks, so why am i going to waste my money and encourage more use of dvd-r.
