DO NOT create your own formula (style) or if you do, don't be afraid to change it if you find that something isn't so hot. If something annoys you, it probably annoys most of your viewers. If you create a formula that never changes for years, people will get bored with you fast and you'll lose customers and never know why. 4. This means you have to constantly be innovating, refining and redesigning yourself. The only thing you want to be consistent is the quality of your product. Porn that doesn't change stagnates. 5. This means everything about your technique should be constantly under scrutiny for ways in which you can improve it. If you can use a better camera, use a better camera. If you notice the lights you're using are giving your porn a strange color cast, find a way to fix it. 6. Use performers you actually think are good. Don't just use the most popular ones even though that might initially attract more customers. 7. DO NOT overlook or underestimate the importance of the male performers! They're just as important as the females and a bad one can blow any scene with any girl. 8. Get yourself some kind of creative team so all of the creative ideas don't have to come from you. If you burn yourself out, you'll fall into the pit of just recycling your old ideas endlessly. 9. Never shoot a porn scene on a couch. This is THE WORST IDEA EVER and it has been done to the point to where it can ruin a scene all by itself. 10. Avoid ALL of the most common porn angles. Almost all of them are boring and they're so worn out that if you start your scene with one of them, your porn already looks just like everyone else's porn. There are lots of great angles that almost never get used. Experiment. Find a girl who's willing to be your test subject for a reasonable fee and go crazy with every angle you can imagine. Then take the footage, sit down with it and actually watch it and watch for interesting things that you don't normally see in every porn flick. There are a lot of camera professionals who will tell you never to use this angle or that one but the only way to know how it will look and whether or not it's sexy when applied to a female body is to try it and see. 11. Avoid the wide angle lens! It's not quite as bad as it used to be but almost every porn I've seen over the past however many years has been shot through an obnoxious wide angle lens that makes everything in the room look like a bubble. Almost everything looks better without that lens so you should only use it if you absolutely have to. If you put that thing on your camera, again, your porn will already look like generic porn because it distorts the features of everything and everyone exactly the same way. Don't do it! If you're tempted, try it. Shoot a few minutes of the same girl with a standard lens and with a really wide lens and then try to jerk off to it. Unless you get off on a massive distortion of reality, you'll probably prefer the stuff shot with a standard lens. I have no idea what all the guys shooting with fisheye lenses are thinking or if they ever watch their own stuff. 12. If you want to stand out, don't copy anyone else's porn. Make your porn. Go for the goal of making every scene shine in it's own way. Disclaimer - I do not work in the porn industry and never have. These are things I would do (or try to do) myself if I were trying to make porn. Edited by - randomprecision on 12/7/2009 7:45:27 PM |
