I dont understand this ! Many US or Australian porn sites write: " You must be 21 years old to watch our site ". You have to be 21 years old to drink a beer in the US of A, but you can watch/play into/rent/buy porn with 18, not 21. Yesterday, Ive looked at the small print on the Playboy Videos. ( very small and very fast scrolling away ). They state, that " if you want to be a Playboy model, you have to be 21 ". But they had and have 18-20 year old models too. Can somebody explain me this ? e.g: http://www.excaliburfilms.com
I can read, jack33139. Ive some US Playboy DVDs, the message appears directly after the credits. You can only read it, if you use slow motion, because it scrolls so fast: " can send in photos, blabla, you have to be 21 years of age and over...... " And many US porn webshops have this "21 age" minimum too. ( Just follow the link )
This used to bug me before I was 21. I never had trouble buying anything myself but a lot of times you'd see ads in magazines saying "must be 21 to order" this movie or magazine or whatever. What for? It's not like beer. Have you ever heard of someone getting arrested for "driving under the influence of porn?" A lot of casinos are like that too. Back then I vowed that if I couldn't go there until I was 21, I wouldn't go there after I was 21 either. Funk dat.
Yes, its really strange to watch an US Playboy DVD, where some models are 18 or 19, but after the credits, there is an " If you want to be a model, you have to be 21 years of age or older - statement ". And then the ubiquitous sec.2257, sec.18 (!). And none of the models was drinking a beer..It doesnt make sense. I have mailed Playboy USA too. To my surprise, they answered. But the reply was pure nonsense: " According to the law, we have to keep the age of the models on file, blablabla etc. " They were only explaining this idiotic law, that I can already rehearse in sleep. But nobody explained the 21 years of age.
I always thought the 18 vs. 21 was for reasons of convenience/simplicity. There are some places where minimum age to view porn is 18. Other places where minimum age is 21. But to keep things simple, they just say 21. But if it's really important (they want to photograph a pretty girl), they can always learn the accurate (18/21) answer for the particular situation, from a legal standpoint. That's my theory.
OK, but that's the answer *edited to add every township and borough has it's own community standard, it can be a pain in the ass to suss through Edited by - dead horse on 1/17/2008 12:43:03 PM
Funny thing. That. You can make porn when you're 18. You can fuck anyone you want when you're 18 (as long as they're over 18 as well). But when I was 19, there were some places where you had to be 21 to rent or buy porn. Complete BS. Fuckin' people.......
From the Action-DVD site: Age Limit and Responsibility You must be a legal adult, at least 18/21 (depending on individual state laws regarding access to adult subject matter) years of age to buy or preview any product on this Web site.
Age of majority Misssissippi - 21 Alabama, Nebraska - 19 Other states - 18 Found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_majority http://marriage.about.com/cs/teenmarriage/a/majority.htm
I am for 14 as legal age. ninja1: Thank you. So only 3 states have a higher minimum age. Ive often read in european newspapers, that porn is illegal in Utah. But this is nonsense.
The "age of majority" is broader than just viewing pornography; for example to get a marriage license. And as dead horse posted, each community/town/county has local policies about pornography. It is quite possible that Utah has some restrictions, or some city within Utah has restrictions; someone with a computer could research this. A quick search finds this which does talk about Utah restrictions: http://attorneygeneral.utah.gov/pornography/obscenpornlaws.htm

Shipping porn to Utah is supposedly illegal as it is in Tennessee. Where do they thing the brick and mortar stores get their product? Now that is truly fucking ridiculous and the whole concept of "them" making it illegal gets my blood to boiling. "Censorship is the first step towards dictatorship !" Honest Ed
It still doesn't matter what the age of majority is. I'm 20 but the company I work for only sells to 21 +... Go figure. The legal age to ACT in hardcore movies is 18. As far as I know, no state can prosecute anyone for hiring 18, 19, and 20s to get naked and have sex. However, some midwestern and southeastern states mandate that it is illegal for anyone under 21 to PURCHASE said films. As far is these states are concerned, sex is just as bad, if not worse, than drinking, drugs, etc. GOD BLESS AMERICA! That said, in Europe, the age a majority is as low as 16 in some countries (hence the legality of certain T.L. films). However, in most European countries, as here, the standard age is 18.
