That propaganda was put out by AIM and it was based on the reading of the data by a person who lacked the mathematical ability to interpret the data properly. The truth is that the STD rate among porn performers is WAY WAY HIGHER than in the general population, and AIMS own data proves that quite conclusively, something you will be hearing about if you attend the OSHA hearing today.

That sounds like utter nonsense to me. At least regarding Herpes, anyway.
Just take a look at the recent article that I linked in which U.S. health officials stated the infection rate for Americans to be at 16%, and then compare that to the earlier quotes that I posted from the few pornstars who are willing to discuss the issue.
Even if you choose to go with Sharon Mitchell's estimate then it's still shows Herpes to be far more prevalent among pornstars than the general population.

Before I address that (I'm doing the research like a good girl), I want to bring it back to the original topic of HSV. HSV is so common in the general population, there's no reason to doubt that it would be the same in the adult industry. The porn world is a microcosm of the general population, so it stands to reason.
As for the incidence of STDs in the general population, the CDC reports can be found here:
http://wonder.cdc.gov/std-std-v2008-race-age.html
Also, what I was thinking of was from AIM, but via the Village Voice:
http://www.villagevoice.com/2007-09-04/columns/danger-on-the-set/
If you have data showing she's lied, I'd really like to see that actually. It has a great impact on my life, and my career.

A doctor from CDC mentions the higher std rates in porn(as opposed to the general populus) in this article from a court hearing today actually.

Thanks! Frankly, I think a lot of us would be fine with condoms in porn, but considering the fan's preferences, the industry just needs a trigger man on it. If it's the Govt. making us do it, we're not to blame. Then again, I'm still new to the biz, so what do I know?

An interesting interview I heard last night dealt with some pretty startling information. A researcher claims that in the race to create a vaccine for polio, a strain was grown on the kidney cells of monkeys, killed off, and administered to over 100,000,000 people in the early 50's. It was soon discovered that the vaccination administered to these people is responsible for a multitude of modern day soft-tissue types of cancer. This includes HPV, which I believe is a cancer causing virus. This was swept under the media rug, of course.
I personally think that anyone who trusts vaccinations is ill informed of the dangers. I think vaccinations are a sham, and a crime against humanity.

In the trials for the original dead cell Salk vaccine that involved the vaccination of 100,000 children, some of the vaccine improperly contained live virus that actually infected some of the recipients with polio. This is the only instance in the 55 years of the vaccine that any side effects were the result of vaccination, and the only time that unsafe vaccine ever made it to public use.
There has never been even the suggestion that any polio vaccine was connected in any way with cancer. No doubt you take this as absolute PROOF that the vaccine causes cancer, since conspiracists always interpret evidence that something isn't so as a verification not only that it IS so, but that there are powerful forces at work to keep everybody from finding it out.
Don't get vaccinataed. Live in terror of being fine one day and confined to an iron lung the next. I'm old enough to remember what fun that was, old enough to remember that people would have gotten vaccinated even if there HAD been a risk of cancer from the vaccination.
I'm curious. Is there anything that ISN'T involved in some vast and horrible conspiracy to hide the truth from everybody but you and your perspicacious peers?

duefuss, I understand the whole iron lung thing and the fear people had of Polio. It would have scared me too. I'm also not saying that I know everything about it. I am merely putting forward news that I have recently heard from a source that I am more likely to believe than any corporate funded entity receiving money from big-pharma commercials. Holy fucking run on sentences!
Just because a person believes something that is contradictory to popular consensus does not automatically classify that person as paranoid. "Paranoid"is such a buzz word to throw an argument out of the arena. I will expect more from you in the future as any debate unfolds.
As far as the numbers and statistics go...I believe we will have to continue this later, as I have a lot going on now. Let's just say I strongly disagree. You seem to take what you hear from your sources as fact, I will not make any such claim, but I can tell you for sure that I am determined to know the truth.

I know this is an old thread but I can remember in my childhood people getting measles, whooping cough and chicken pox. Those are just about gone from the developed world now because of vaccines. Those vaccines did not exist then (in fact I was just vaccinated the first time for whooping cough a couple of years ago with my last tetanus shot). When I was a kid all of the vaccinations we received were polio and smallpox vaccinations (I received the Salk vaccine myself IIRC and didn't get polio from it -- I guess I was one of the lucky ones). I recently looked at vaccination lists for the US, Mexico and the UK and the lists were as long as my arm (with Mexico's being the most comprehensive as they still give smallpox which the US and UK do not). Although not given routinely a person can even get a yellow fever vaccine and malaria prevention tablets now if traveling to a susceptible area. When I was younger you just traveled and took your chances.

Actually a sore cold is an herpes infection (Herpes Simplex Labialis) which is usually transmitted by contact , most of the times by kissing each other , if someone eat out a woman while having a sore cold it'll infect the woman and become an STD , there are forms of herpes very aggressive though (Herpes Zoster for example).
herpes is incurable but can be controlled through medicine , also each time it comes out is weaker than before to the point to not appearing at all although the infection is still there
Being the industry a relatively close working environment where especially the male talents are incredibly few as opposed to the overflowing numbers of female starlets and considering that a male career is usually much more longer than that of women , it is obvious that if a male talent has herpes he will infect a large number of stars.
Though this is the very same thing keeping HIV out of the door , if in a close group nobody has an HIV infection then nobody can transmit it.

Yes, it is a guaranteed thing if you enter the porn industry. Just part of the trade.
NFL players are guaranteed to have bad knees or backs or brain trauma when they finish their careers; other jobs have other long term and permanent health hazards, a marathon runner has a shorter life expectancy, .... they accept that risk and live with it...
Porn is not unique in accepting certain consequences.
I do, and i know this will be hated by a lot of people when I say it.... I do still get a chuckle out of people who worry about herpes when they are sucking a cigarette several times a day. You got all these people sucking poison into their body and guaranteeing a shorter lifespan, yet they worry about gluten or too many carbs or catching herpes ........
amazing how smokers minds work.

There may be a lower instance of HIV documented cases.... however, that is the only thing lower than the general population.
everyone gets herpes, most get genital herpes, most catch chlamydia or gonnoreah several times during their career........ I know I am replying to a post from 2010... I wonder if the industry still claims the industry is lower than general population for STI's other than HIV here in 2016?

Just because people are damaging their body in one way doesn't mean that they want to damage their body in other ways or in every way.

The stigma attached genital herpes we have today is only a few decades old. The virus has been around for 2,000 years and something like one in six people suffer from it. In the past it was regarded as an inconsequential skin condition. But in the seventies a pharmaceutical company manufactured a treatment for genital herpes so in order to sell it they had to manufacture public concern as well.

I know this will not be popular, but I feel the herpes situation is absurd fear mongering. Yeah, it has some negatives.... but in an era of smokers, drinkers, air pollution, and obesity... it really should not be anywhere near the top of the priority list.
I think it is more than one in 6 who have a form of herpes......... if you include all kinds (gential, mouth AKA cold sores, etc).

^I agree, and don't know why that view would be unpopular. The sores are irritating to those who have them and are unattractive, but that's what medication is for.

I get cold sores on my mouth maybe once or twice a year. I have since I was a kid, usually after I've been sick with a cold or something. It would certainly suck to have them on my penis, in the sense that it would be uncomfortable and I wouldn't want to show anyone, but it wouldn't kill me. Seems like a lot of fuss over nothing.

Yeh when i was a kid i used to get cold sores on my mouth when my doby was at a low ebb , i also got this chest fungal infection called ringworm (sounds more revolting than it is) Anyway for years of taking the medicine and creams it would always come back. Now im older both have just stopped , cleared up, finito , so i think theres also something unexplained at play , like hormones or something.
Everyone probably knows that there are effective antivirals like aciclovir that do work so if you feel a sore coming on you just max out on pills and fingers crossed you can remain good to go.

You're wrong - that exact quote is in there. You have to scroll all the way to the end, 4th question from the bottom.

^ The full Q and A:
'The way you write it in the book, when you found out that you had herpes, your agent was like, “Oh that happens to everyone.”
Yes, which also wasn’t something I knew happened to everyone. I wouldn’t say 100 percent of the people in the porn industry have herpes, but it’s an extremely high percentage. I mean, even in the general population [outside of porn] it’s a high percentage. I talk to a lot of people who are getting into the industry or planning to go from the queer porn industry here in San Francisco to L.A. and they just need to know that there’s a great possibility of that happening. Some of the people I talked to didn’t even realize that they shoot without condoms in L.A.'

^Thanks.
^^For whatever reason, the article doesn't load beyond Madison's answer to "So when is that switch flipped?" for me. After that there's the author's bio.
