I read the [url=466658]nauseating thread and was about to post the same thing you did, but gave up when I saw some of the responses. Well, I gave up a long time ago (same time as you did.)
Then I see at least three different threads where people are called perverts for participating at Adult DVD Talk. Same urge to say something. Same realization that it won't accomplish anything.
Sad. Apparently I've been sheltered by liberal thinking people.

So what you're saying is we won't all become redheads in a thousand years if I procreate?

I have to admit I still pop in over there occasionally to see what the bozos are saying.
Your right Steph, it is the same concept as rubbernecking at an accident.
We know they are idiots, we know it's probably going to piss us off the read their debates, yet somehow we are drawn to look anyway.
I dunno, it's like a roller coaster..it makes you sick , but in an enjoyable way.

I wrote Geoff & some of the DVD Talk moderators an email explaining that I was leaving for good, and that I found the site far too homophobic these days...
On impulse I also started a new thread with the email -- which was a mistake, I suspect, since it only makes me want to hang around and read the responses, when I should be gone for good...
The long and short of it is that I don't expect to even lurk anymore. There are plenty of other sites that carry the same basic DVD specs and shopping information...

Alan - I don't think your thread was a mistake at all. The responses make clear that many don't understand what you're saying at all - some don't even see the difference between bigotry and differing beliefs.
But, I, too need to stop reading it, especially since it upsets me. I've never developed thick skin and probably never will.

I don't know why I continued with that thread over there. Well I just couldn't sit there and be told I was a defect. I found that remark very offensive and quite frankly hurtful. I tried my best to explain that the remarks were offensive but they just kept coming. Nobody cares about how hurtful there remarks can be. I just don't understand people somtimes.

Sparky and Alan, although I hold no responsibilty, nor can I change it, I would like to sincerely apologise on behalf of the ignorance of the human race.

Hey,
I have not been here in along time. But I am so said to read what you guys are saying. I love it over there. I surf from work so this place is a no no. You need to know that you are both MISSED and when mentioned are well remembered. Alan you had taught me much in past "gay" topics. I dont think these new ones were all that different. If you taught me before, why do you think that you could not reach others. This is a cross-section of people at dvd talk, as in the world. You should understand that.
Steph, You know of you legendary status at dvd talk. I miss you there as you now many do. I can respect that you are busy here, but if you read a thread that needs a response, than DO. The balance you brought to the other forum is missed.
Not to preach, Just wanted to let you know that many of us miss you both (as you could see from the thread)! I hope that you both can find time to share your feelings there.
You old DVD TALK buddy,
Brett

bfrank - you're one of the few great people over there. But I simply can't tolerate the sheer ignorance to get to the good conversations with the thinking individuals.
Some of them think that the forum reflects real life - maybe it reflects their life hanging around with immature, middle class frat boys. It certainly does not reflect a life that I would choose to be a part of.
I had a great time there once, but now I want to puke on every third thread I read.

Thanks for the kind words, bfrank. I guess I just reached my limit, in terms of patience and "not taking things personally."
I realize there are still lots of folks at DVDTalk with whom I could have a great dialog on this issue -- whether we agree or not. And there are all those lurkers out there who could benefit, as well. Still...
There are also lots of folks who are, to put it bluntly, bigots. Their presence on the boards seems to be increasing. There's no point in trying to manage a diplomatic conversation with them anymore.
Just as I wouldn't expect a productive dialog on gay rights at a Klan Rally--or a Southern Baptist Convention--I no longer think DVD Talk is a productive place to discuss the issue.

I haven't visited DVD Talk in months. It seems to be populated with either moralists or flamers. No more bargains and low signal to noise ratio. Good riddance...
