A friend recently told me about this free image editor that seems to provide a lot more function and it's fairly easy to use. You might want to give it a look. Photoscape It hasn't replaced my Irfan program, but I use it to do some things Irfan doesn't. [Link] |

It seems just about impossible to get the color balance right with those controls. And the fact that you have to squint to see that tiny, TINY preview image sure doesn't help. As many incarnations of Irfanview as there have been, I don't see how something that glaring has been repeatedly overlooked. If your colors aren't off by much, you can get decent color with Irfanview. It's nice that they've added some filters. Irfanview is still close to the best all in one free solution. Some other programs offer many of the same features and more advanced ones but at the cost of not being quite as intuitive or integrated. I have tried Photoscape and still have it on my system but I don't find myself using it much. Paint.net is OK too but seems to go a little squirrely when I try to do certain things. I still have an old copy of Photodeluxe that came with a camera or a scanner or something way back. I finally managed to get it to install (and work) on Vista running in compatibility mode (after I turned the graphics features off). Surprisingly, Photodeluxe allows me to do some things that are quite difficult to accomplish in other programs with relative ease. |
