I've seen a few sites outside of Los Angeles that feature performers who aren't mainstream pornstars. I was curious if there are any studios/dvd stores online that specialize in these videos, and what they are? Outside of Los Angeles is cool, but not necessary.
^ not sure what you're looking for based on your post. There are hundreds/thousands of amateur sites and studios. Homegrown, Shot at Home, Home Made Media, Clips4Sale, the list goes on and on....??????
I guess this was what I was asking: what are the best amateur studios? Not merely sites like Pure18 that sell newer porn stars off as amateurs, but legitimate studios that feature performers who are either not professionals or outside the porn valley mainstream. Not necessarily looking for something like burningangel, which relies upon tattoos and piercings for novelty, but something legitimately smaller scaler/more amateurish.
^ if you look at AVN awards for amateur content, I think you'll find Homegrown a consistent winner. If you look at reviews on this and other site, you'll find Shot at Home to be a consistent winner. Home Made Media has had SOME good content. Platinum Media in New Hampshire is another major amateur source. Unfortunately, all of them include amateur content that's junk. I don't think any of them consistently always output quality scenes. That's one of the problems with amateur content....too much variability in the quality. Just because Homegrown wins an AVN doesn't mean all their content is the same high quality. Same for Shot at Home. OBTW, much of what's considered amateur by AVN and others really is more of what you've suggested, really pro stuff that's passed off as amateur. You need to watch (FF through) lots of it and appreciate the really good stuff.
Shot at Home and Marie Madison Productions / Maddy G would be the first two to come to mind. Homegrown has some good stuff, but is much more hit or miss IMO. ^Those DVD's look like old VHS from the 80's and 90's. I recognize some of the scenes from stuff I've bought and rented and collected over the years. From that perspective, it's overpriced because most of those DVD's contain only a single scene/session. But it is rare/collectible content, likely unavailable anywhere else, so it may be worth the money to you.

I agree Homegrown is hit and miss; usually one or two good scenes and two more marginal ones (sometimes very marginal!). Shot at Home seems to suffer from multiple scenes from couples/performers filming sex to submit another scene rather than sharing a sexual encounter together and letting us watch; huge difference.
