Get someone to produce a quality product and it will sell; however, they are going to have one hell of a marketing hurdle to overcome because of the bad product already poisoning the marketplace.

| pronggod Member 17 Posts 8/03 | Does anyone else agree that more American made bisexual titles would be good to see being produced? This is the number one customer request I feel has long been ignored? European and Latin titles not withstanding, the majority of my customers in 3 states all want English spoken bisexual titles. Right now there only are approximately 4-6 good releases a year. I think alot of people worry about the amount of penetration involved especially in regards to male participants, but many women I've talked to agree that they don't want to see a "heavy" gay scene between 2 or more men. Instead they would prefer a "couples" approach with a more oral emphasis. This type of film seems to really cater itself to a feature type film. Is the reason these scenes are not being shot a health concern or a "no one will use me in straight features if I the performer wish to do both" concern. Granted there have been some good titles put out but not nearly enough to meet the demand. I really would be interested in hearing what others think about this, not so much on a personal strata rather a financial one. Seeing how the transexual market has really boomed of late and the amount of swingers in most major cities it kinda seems like a no brainer. I might be wrong but I would like to hear from those behind the scenes and other chain buyers most especially. [Link] |

The few studio's that are producing any volume are turning out really lackluster stuff. The only good ones seem to come from the gay studios, and I think (though I have no inside information) that these are done as a kind of obligatory attempt at winning an award for best bisexual title at the GVN awards show. I too think it's a no brainer with the expanded market that includes the transsexual genre. GaySatyr, I don't think it's that much of a marketing hurdle. If a director or studio starts making some consistently good stuff in the bisexual arena, the internet can be leveraged to provide all the marketing that is needed. Tony, Talk to me. |

The bisexual genre has earned a rather nasty stench. The hurdle may not be enormous; but it is there. And it will take some effort to overcome it. TonyC: A lot of the top-tier talent in gay videos are bisexual - or at least, trade willing to perform with men. This applies to a lot of the European talent, as well. I'm sure many of these guys would be willing to participate in bisexual projects (in fact, some do: Ken Ryker, Rick Chase, etc). You are on your own with the women. ~ GaySatyr |

I've looked at what's being released for bisexual titles, what's available on the shelves at brick and mortar establishments, and what the online stores have. When I do the math, new releases for bisexual titles comes in at less than 0.2% for current DVDs. My local corner rental store has a total of 1 title. The other mom and pop shops have from zero to maybe a dozen. One of the two big superstores in San Jose has a sparsely populated shelf with less than 50 titles. The other I don't bother with because it's too far away and they mix it in with the gay titles. When I look at the online stores that target women, they are overpriced and maybe carry 3 or 4 titles. Here is my point. There is virtually nothing out there anyway. People who are looking for a selection have to use a mail order or online service. It's true that people buy what is in front of them. Well, put something good in front of them. |

If he knows any of the performers or studios (yeah, right) he can tell by that. I point out Miss Kitty's Litter, the Mile Bi Club, and Goosed for 3. He ends up buying the VHS of Goosed for 3. I hope he got his $45 worth. |

For an established studio with a series to sell, how many copies per month of a title could you sell? Let's assume a 4 star rating. If there were a new studio with an exceptional video, but no guarantee of future product, how many copies would you expect to move? |

| RobHammer Independent Producer San Jose, CA 444 Posts 4/03 | When you say 18-25 dollar cost per item for distributors and larger chains, do you mean wholesale or retail? In my mind, that's the retail price I would target to really get the best sales. The reason I rent a lot more than I buy is the exorbitant price that is charged for the better titles. Anyway I got curious about new releases and did a price search for bisexual titles. The results: 234 titles total. Looking for new releases within the past 255 days (that's as far back as the search allows) returned 100 titles. Of those, there were 2 duplicate, 17 strap-on female on male (not bisexual) and 1 bisexual female title and 1 transsexual title. That leaves about 80 titles. In order to find good American made porn, disregard the studios that do mostly compilations: That leaves less than 30 titles European: And we are down to about 20 titles. In the last 255 days. How many of these 4 star movies? Not many I'm sure. Here are the 2003 Gay VN award nominees for Best Bisexual Video as listed by NakedSword.com: Bi the Blue Line, U.S. Male (not Blue Pictures/Caballero) My take on the Best Bisexual Video award being given at the Gay VN awards show - it's only the gay studios that are making product. But that's not the market. And pronggod, there are other topics, but I don't think there is a duplicate topic. How are you breaking forum etiquette? I think your question is worth it's own topic on this forum. I thank you for bringing your marketing perspective to the subject. Edited by - RobHammer on 10/14/2003 9:35:32 PM |

I consider myself a straight guy, but I think the fantasy of a girl coercing a couple of guys to cross some boundries is pretty hot. Sort of a 'I bet you're so hot for me you'd even do this just because it turns me on'. Like, for example, if in one of those Jules Jordan tease segments, if the guys showed up a little earlier, and the girl asked them to stroke each other's cocks while she was showing off her sexy ass...I wouldn't mind that at all ;) |
