Just as an aside, if you are talented and genuinely do enjoy this type of thing and are looking just get enjoyment out of doing this, I am sure there are some new studios who would be cool with letting you play with some of their stuff to make trailers or promo clips. Just kidding. I don't know what this Usenet you speak of is because google doesn't exist and the internet is still something I've not fully understood yet. Also videos on most adult youtube type links are grabbed from aged VHS's and lose quality during converstion.

don't they use the new microsoft security encoding? I am not into actually cracking the codes.
But I agree, the stuff I have downloaded and liked I have bought. video.stockroom.com is good for that, but I can't use the video to play with.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't like copyright infringement at all. I happen to own some rights myself. But there is a trend now with media business to open source their content for the fans use. Check out Nine Inch Nails last release. All tracks available for the fans to remix. The remix's are put out for everyone to watch and even Trent Reznor check them out and comments on them on his website.

Then there is the stuff I am more familiar with on a proffesional level where a guy with a love of say, oh I don't know, Alyssa Milano, makes his own "I love Alyssa" site and her people (read,lawyerse)consider it an honor and decide it is better to let the fans generate and regenerate interest.

So my question is more how if the industry has looked at the fan generated content as a plus or are they interested in blocking it?

Supposedly you can't really do this with Hollywood titles already, but everyone does it anyway. It's as common as people back in the day making Audio Tapes of their store bought CDs for their own personal use. My guess is quite a few people probably convert their home movies for use on the PSP or Ipod. Maybe nobody even watches movies on those! Probably not!

If I want to watch a movie on my cell phone or music, then i'll just rip my DVD I bought. Saying that is illegal is just plain stupid.

They now have software that allows you to record to WMV a "rented" DRM VOD. I won't discuess this, but i'm sure that's illegal. I'm just pointed out it exists, that's all. It's pretty much the same as using a Svideo/DVI output on your PC and recording the video input to a DVD Recorder or VCR.

I've seen all the newsgroups people speak of. I downloaded small clips back when I was younger, but I had no clue if they were copyrighted or what. Now I'm not even sure if full movies are easy to get on usenet. I haven't even bothered to check. Even with cable i'd rather buy a DVD. I'm too lazy to download 2gb or so and I HATE watching full movies on my computer. Never have, never well.

My guess is that FTP sites are more popular now. People pirated movies go onto IRC and trade sites etc. Maybe less now than years ago. Now I believe it's all torrents etc.

If Itunes or a similar company ever sold/rented Foreign language films not available on DVD, then i'd consider it.

[DJ Drama And DJ Cannon Prepare Their Defense After Raid

As reported earlier this week, DJ Drama and DJ Cannon were arrested after law enforcement officers raided their Atlanta offices. During the raid, SWAT team members took an estimated 50,000 CDs, computers, cars, bank statements, and recording equipment. The raid came after the Recording Industry Association of America charged the duo with racketeering, and violating copyright laws.

Drama and Cannon own Aphilliates LLC, and are responsible for the Gangsta Grillz mixtapes. In the past, Gangsta Grillz has featured artists such as Young Jeezy, Jim Jones, Diddy, and more.

The two DJs posted bond and were released from jail on January 17th, one day after being arrested. They are now preparing their legal defense and have hired attorneys to represent them. According to allhiphop, DJ Drama has enlisted the services of Ed Garland, while DJ Cannon has hired Janice Singer and Don Samuel.

DJ Drama released a statement saying, "This is an attempt by the government to paint an image of those involved in Hip-Hop as criminals...Don Cannon and I are being negatively depicted despite the fact we are legitimate businessman, highly involved in the community and college graduates that have never been arrested. We are being accused of damaging the music industry, when in fact, we are hired by record labels to help develop and elevate the careers of their artists by previewing unreleased material to the masses."

Don Cannon added, "Our track record for success has made us some of the most sought after music producers and DJ's in Hip Hop...We are looking forward to being exonerated of all charges and continuing to build our brand."

The arrest comes amidst heightened security measures taken by the RIAA. They are cracking down harder on piracy, exacting new techniques to track online and physical illegal copying.]

DJ Drama's attorney does not believe that his client was selling illegal CDs. He said, ""The charges against Tyree Simmons are false and we are confident this case will be quickly dismissed once everyone has a clear understanding of his business."]

It's fun and games until the Feds come knocking .....
