Mr. Marcus - Porn's Black Stallion
by Lisa Anne Auerbach

Since he started in porn eight years ago, Mr. Marcus has had nearly as many Websites as he’s had women. From price-gouging high school buddies to a message board attracting extremely ugly gossip, the incarnations of his site have not always been lovely. Thankfully, his protracted, tortured tale of online trials and tribulations has a happy ending. After five years of frustration, Mr. Marcus’ new site, MrMarcus.com, was launched in December 2000. The site is all about the divine Mr. M., complete with a journal of his life both on and off the set, nasty Polaroids from his casting couch, POV pics of the ladies, and tons of images of hot, sweaty action. I caught up with Marcus at a fancy pad in the valley, where he was popping the video cherry of a lovely ingénue. Even in the throes of scripted ecstasy, the professional remembered to grab his digi and shoot for his Website. And what a view!

Q: When did the current incarnation of your site start?
Mr. Marcus: Just over a year ago. This guy was introduced to me. He was like 19, looking for work. He's a fat little white kid, reminds me of Jimmy Neutron's sidekick. He's like the squarest person I know. We had nothing in common, nothing at all. But he's a genius. And his sister's cool; she's into brothers. The biggest problem before was with the updates. They just didn't happen. But now they do. I figure: keep him close, he's going to be an extension of me. And if you're going to have a good site, you're either going to do it yourself, or you're going to have someone you trust. This guy does a great job.

Q: What's your favorite part of the Website?
MM: Probably the "My Thoughts" page. I used to have all these thoughts in my head, and I said, "Let me do something with them." I mean, they're not stupid thoughts, they're legitimate questions with legitimate answers. And so I started writing them down.

Q: Your thoughts and your journal veer into very personal territory, like your sometimes rocky relationship with your daughter. Brutally honest stuff. How did you decide to include this sort of material on a porn site?
MM: Even my Web guy was surprised with some of that. But when I thought about what people wanted me to write, it didn't always come so easily. I've been writing about every single girl I've had sex with and why I was into her, and there's a certain madness to it. Sometimes I just hate it... and I go back to my family, looking for things that matter. So as long as I'm going back and forth with these two worlds, I may as well write about it.

Q: Did you lose a lot of people when you went from a free site to pay?
MM: Probably. I don't really know. When I was putting the site together, I was thinking about what I could put up that people wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. So I try to make it as personal as possible. There's a lot up there, and it costs money to maintain, so I have to charge something. And now we have movies, too.

Q: Do you know who's looking at your site? Men or women?
MM: I think it's 50/50. It's funny to think you can affect both sexes. I got gay men saying "I love you," couples saying "I love you," single women saying "I love you." So across the board, I got it covered.
What about the lesbians?
Oh yeah, I got lesbians too, man. I ain't trippin.' I got the whole spectrum right here.

Q: Are there any ideas you've borrowed from other sites?
MM: On Peter North's site, you can search for scenes by the name of the girls, and you can watch them. I'd like to have that on my site.

Q: What other sites do you look at?
MM: I love photos; I can't even tell you how many times I've jacked off with the computer.
What sites?
I don't know. Usually, it's just like hotgirls.com or something like that.

Q: Do you subscribe to any sites?
MM: I don't subscribe to shit! Just give me the free stuff... The only one I ever joined was Playboy.com, because there was this article about this girl I was infatuated with. I saw her photos... I had to see more... but you had to pay. That was it. I was content.

Q: What about non-sex sites?
MM: I like interracial, blowjob, Asians. I got those little fetishes. As long as I can put in "anyfetish.com," I'm happy.

Q:Non-sex, Marcus... I asked about non-sex... Like Encyclopedia Britannica or something?
MM: You want to know the truth? I like airplane crashes. AirDisaster.com, PlanesMishaps.com. It has every single plane crash ever: who died, how many people died, who made the plane, why it crashed, what happened afterwards, the dates and time of when it happened, the weather. Plane crashes happen more than you think. Just because it's not on the top of the news doesn’t mean it isn't happening.
