I spoke with the effervescent Donavan while she was signing at the Anabolic Video booth during this year’s AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Vegas. Anthony Petkovich: Amee, tell us about some movies you’ve recently done for Anabolic.

Amee Donovan: Let’s see ... [thinking] ... what movies did I do? [laughs] I’ve been doing so many lately. Well, there’s Nasty Nymphos 35, which has a double penetration scene with Lexington Steele and Eric Everhard. “Big” guys. I just did a Gangbang Audition a couple of days ago with about five guys. It wasn’t scary but it was very overwhelming. There were just so many guys that ... I didn’t know what to do. I mean, in a gangbang like that, you have so many things going on, and you have to make sure it’s all evened out, that you’re not favoring one person over the other.

We certainly need more generous girls like you, Amee — in and outside of porn. So how did you get involved in the ol' smuterola scene?

It started with my wanting to get into modeling. “Wow! I’d love to be in magazines,” I told my current boyfriend. So about a year ago, I started doing fetish shoots for a Toledo-based guy who has a pay web site. Bondage and fetish stuff. And somewhere around that time, I put up a personal profile on a site called www.OneModelPlace.com, and that’s where my current agent Mark Spiegler found of me. When Mark originally called, I thought it was a bunch of hoo-ha. “Yeah, right,” I thought. “This guy isn’t really a porn agent.” But I also thought, “Well, let’s see where this goes.” We talked off and on for a couple of months until I finally came out to California.

Tell us a little about your life in Dayton.

Well, I suppose I was somewhat of a rebellious kid in my latter teen years. But initially I was really quiet, didn’t have a lot of friends, kept to myself. I had sex for the first time when I was 16 ... with a different guy than whom I’m with now. He was my “first love.” [laughs]
Anyhow, when I was starting my last year of high school, my parents split up, and my mom and I moved into our own apartment. All of the stress from my parents' separation was really affecting my grades, so I quit school. Occasionally I get disappointed when I think about how I didn’t graduate with my class, but a GED is actually a lot harder than getting your high school diploma the more conventional way. The proficiency tests in Ohio are really tough. So I feel that I succeeded, anyway.

After dropping out of high school, what did you do?

Well [laughs] rather than get a job, I stayed at various friends' houses and wouldn’t come home for a couple of weeks at a time. I had a lot of freedom and just wanted to have fun. But when my mom and I got evicted from our apartment, she moved to Texas and I was on my own, which is when I started working as a cashier at Speedway. Sometimes I would work non-stop for 72 hours because I was so behind in my bills; I’d occasionally catch a quick nap in the office. But now ... I’ve paid off my bills, I’m starring in porn, and everything’s great.

From what I’ve seen, you seem to genuinely enjoy your X-rated work.

I do. The money, of course, is a nice bonus on top of the great sex. But, to tell you the truth, I especially like the notoriety. I get an incredible thrill from meeting my fans. That’s my favorite thing about this AVN Expo. Actually, I’ve got a disposable camera here and I’ve been getting my own pictures with my fans.

After watching some of your movies — like Assault That Ass 2 and Heavy Handfulls 2 — I can’t help but notice that you like getting spanked.

Oh yeah! [laughs] My current boyfriend is really the only one who had the guts to spank me first. The other boyfriends were like [in whining voice], “I don’t want to huuuurt you.” And I was like, “Just do it. Interestingly enough, when I recently appeared in Joey Silvera’s Service Animals 12, he told me that most porn girls mentally leave a set when they’re doing a scene; they’re not totally committed to the sex. But he was impressed with me because, for a newer girl, I knew what was going on the whole time and had a handle on it. And on Heavy Handfuls 2, that was the first time that I wasn’t nervous, that I didn’t “leave the room” so to speak. In my other earlier films, I was soooo nervous, which I know a lot of guys enjoy seeing because it’s a combination of innocence and nastiness. But in Heavy Handfulls 2, I let go. I let my mouth say what it wanted to.

Are you fairly vocal when having good sex in your private life?

I usually don’t hold a conversation and say stuff like, “Yeah, pound my pussy!” But I do make noises.

What would you like to do after you retire from porn?

I just want a decent, cozy house out in the middle of nowhere with a simple car that can get me from point A to point B whenever I need to work. That’s it. I’m humble. I don’t need the million-dollar home to show everybody that I “got somewhere” in life. I used to want that sort of thing, but being in porn and having actually worked and fucked in those houses, I really don’t want ’em anymore.
