To be fair, I think I've been needlessly comparing Anabolic/Diabolic to RedLight for a while now. When I recently saw "Bring 'Um Young 13" and "Spring Chickens 5" it occurred to me that neither company is better than the other. Even though they are both gonzo companies and seem to snatch a lot of the same girls (i.e. Arianna Jolle) their product is very different right now. The inspired bit of having Trixie Kelly blow the Pizza Deliver guy in "Spring Chickens 5" is something you would never see in a RedLight tape. However, if it were in a RedLight tape it might have had better lighting.

I'm in several film classes at the moment and am still learning as I go but so often I've heard talk of lighting creating mood. Following that line of thought, it just seems that these two companies have different moods about things in their persona and in their product. For example, in "Spring Chickens 5" Jennifer Luv, looking achingly hot in a skimpy white top and bottom get-up with great make-up, is playfully paraded around the Diabolic wharehouse as she does her best to fight back laughs while mimicking the sound of a chicken. It's just goofy fun. Then John Strong comes in and really works her over. By contrast, in "Young Ripe Mellons 3" and "Young Tight Latinas" Jennifer sits on a couch as the guy behind the camera talks to her. Then the stud comes in and they have sex. I don't know that one is hotter than the other because the actual sex on display in each video I mentioned is really hot. It just depends on your mood.

It all seemed so mechanical and I was dying to see more teasing action going on. However, I watch Anabolic/Diabolic now and I don't see that kind of flaw all that much anymore. It's different than it used to be. Now you might think I'm saying that now RedLight has become mechanical because they have those old directors but I don't think that is the case. Vince is probably a much better director now than he used to be. It's just that RedLight can sometimes get too formulatic, though the sex will still be hot, well-shot, and with great lighting.

As a fan, I basically follow the girls I like where they take me (can't be said enough.) However, if they do a tame "Hustler's Barely Legal" tape or a "Sean Michaels Productions" tape I won't check those out because I have a low opinion of the series or company they are appearing or working with. But when it comes to Anabolic/Diabolic or Redlight I know it is going to be really good if perhaps slightly different. So, I can't wait to see Nautica Thorn in "Spring Chickens 6" just as I can't wait to see her in Jake Malone's new RedLight series "Fuck Dolls". (I know that she is also working with WestCoast as well as VCA...am I wrong in assuming that she is really going to blow up all over the place soon?)

The tide will turn, is turning, but whether you like it or not there's always gonna be room for the VHS format, just like cassette-tapes. It'll be years before it's wiped out of porn, but probably not as soon as in the regular Hollywood market, I think. For instance, my parents, who watch a fair amount of rental movies, even one of them is happy to get my old porn tapes (guess which one?), have zero interest in DVD. I offer to buy them DVD players as gifts and they tell me no.

So, there you go. It's a good few years away.

First off: I'm not sure what Flames was talking about so if this conversation turns hostile between Flames (who has only posted 1 time so far) and Cal then so be it.

Second of all: I realize that a lot of people are skeptical about A/D right now and a lot of those people who are skeptical have been long time fans and supporters. I think part of the reason that I find myself lured back to A/D is because I never saw enough of their old stuff to see any kind of drop-off.

Lastly: I just checked out "Initiations 14." It is good and the lighting is actually much better than I expected. Betty Sue's scene is intense, as John Strong and the other guy really tear into her and she seems into it the whole way. I really do hope that in the long run this doesn't end up being her only boy/girl scene. I was, however, kind of surprised that not all of the scenes bear nametags. If I remember correctly the main scenes bear the trademark nametag, but the 2 or 3 quick blowjob scenes don't have that as the very unkown 2 or 3 girls say their name and give around a 2 or 3 minute blowjob. I know somebody started another thead about being disappointed in "Down the Hatch 11." Maybe that tape is in fact not very good. I don't know. I haven't seen it. But I can say that "Initiations 14" looks really good to me. I'll try to write a review of it and post it in a new thread in a day or so.

And....I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw David Fucking Hardman pop up in the last scene of the tape. I've seen him make appearances in some Notorious productions as of late, but I'm surprised to see him in a A/D tape. I thought he was just about retired but he somehow manages two pop shots in his scene so what do I know.
