I'm perplexed by this thread. Are people taking it as a personal offense if they perceive that Anabolic is not making product that's up to their old standards? I actually find it laughable that the exodus of their genius "directors" is pointed at as a cause of this decline. The reality, IMO, is that there was only one good director (at the time) who left. What they really lost was the nucleus of their male performers. That was really the intent of those exclusivity clauses in their contracts. Seriously, there are very few great directors in porn and they will gravitate to the best deal available that allows them the freedom to do what they want at maximum return. Anabolic believes, right or wrong, that their brand name sells and don't need the extra notoriety of superstar direction. Chico has stated in the past that Anabolic sells just fine, regardless. If they don't meet your standards, don't buy or rent. If someone likes their product, or selected titles, that doesn't make them a company shill.
C'mon, you've got to respect Anabolic, a company that has the gall to name a film Tournante , the French word for 'Gang Rape'. And now they've come out with Tournante 2!.
Kind of dilutes any work they've given to female directors.

As far as Anabolic letting great directors go and just use basic directors,I think they feel the brand is bigger than any director, I do think different.

I'd say the smartest company owner ever would have to be John Stagliano. He made the Evil Empire what it is by giving an unprecedented ownership deal to a small group of directors who were either already among the best at the time (Leslie, Dark) or soon would be (Joey, of course).
He also gave the directors working with him something few other company owners are "smart" enough to give -- respect for them, and for what they do. Instead of claiming it's all "the brand name" (McDonald's is top of the heap in brand-names, too ...).
And uh, it seems to have worked out pretty well for Mr. Stag, there ...
DAC: another proven director that Anabolic passed up on. DAC beats any director that Anabolic has on their current roster.
Surely if Anabolic's budget was bigger than Video Team... DAC might consider shooting for Anabolic. But the case maybe Anabolic has a small budget for proven directors to accpet or Anabolic might be "embarrassed" to low ball these proven directors and go with cheaper newbies.

Having watched Tournante 2 just last week, I will say, the segment showcasing the always reserved and compliant Lucy Lee, the frail, Czech dreamgirl, who has shown through a quiet, yet vibrant career, a surprising durability to withstand the rigors of hardcore anal, appear to finally succumb from the role's demanding excesses, in this movie. No, the budgets haven't changed. They've increased. And the residuals are currently there for directors. We haven't lowered our scene count unlike certain other companies and ours is not a company with a shitload of egos to feed downstairs. Some of my movies have so much extras packed onto them I have to cut up to an hour from the final movie.
If you don't like the movies, don't watch them. Sales have actually increased since those guys have left. And, if you say you don't like the movies, and continue to watch them, then you're a fucking imbecile. Stop drinking the Hatorade.
I'm aware I'm not the most beloved director in the business. There's alot of fuckwads who don't like me because I piss in their face and tell them to kiss me. That, at least, tells me I'm going in the right direction. Dion, the logistics of the market hasn't changed. I think any of the distributors you talk to will say Anabolic/Diabolic is at the top along with RLD and Evil. How you've been anyhow?

A/D titles are as prominent as any around 42nd St. Catalog titles share a wall with RLD at my usual store. PXP and Digital Sin/New Sensations has a wall. Evil has wall. Zero Tolerance shares with Sineplex and some other outfit.TT Boy/Evasive Angles/JSP catalog has a HUGE wall.
Only Elegant Angel and Evolution sits bitch. Skeeter and Pat Myne get better treatment for catalog. New releases are kinda of mixed along the single biggest wall inside the entrance.

I find many of the current Anabolic/Diabolic titles to be very DEGRADING. It's not about the sex acts (no different from companies like RLD or ZT), but about the general behavior of the titles. The women are really made to look like stupid dopes and idiots in this movie, and to some, that's supposed to be enjoyable. I'm sorry, but I do not want to see a woman "cum and feathered"; I do not want to know if they know what sound a cow (or various other animals) makes, and I do not want to see their best chicken impression. I doubt the folks at Ana/Dia cared about all those academic connotations concerning the use of modern French Linguist (?) Rene highlighted in another post here. Lucy Lee seems to have have just choosen the wrong scene for her, probabely due to the high payment offered. It obviousely needs a special kind of girl for this thing. Sandra Romain obviously highly enjoyed Tournante 1! And I am more than glad Ana/Dia finally released the 2nd installment - and hopefully the 3rd, 4th, 5th etc.
The only problem I have with Ana/Dia is that incredible long time it takes them to get their already shot stuff released usually. Apart form that I really like how most of their directors just stick to their thing no matter whether it sounds nice or not. Chico finally is just too funny.
For my porn diet, however, nowadays I need RLD and PXP at least. Once there was a time when I could get enough food by watching Ana/Dia 90% of the time only.

I've been a big fan of the Un Natural Sex series and loved Ass Cream Pies 4 done by Sal Genoa. You can't go wrong with any of those, but the rest of recent Anabolic catalog is really embarassing.
