So I was watching L.T.'s Big Black Wet Asses 7 and got to thinking about why the scene with Monet Divine and Pebbles was so damn satisfying overall. I thought I'd share my opinion of what makes a great scene, I know it's been done before, but if more directors shot like this my porn budget would be a lot bigger than it is. This scene had every single one of the key points and a few surprises - so let's deconstruct! 1. 2 Hot girls: Three-ways with two beautiful girls are almost mandatory for me now. The ladies have got to be active and into each other. Lots of kissing, pussy and ass eating, and they should give a good amount of assist when their partner is riding the dude. PTOGM or ATOGM are huge pluses and indicate how comfortable they are with each other. 2. Smiles: They need to be into it. Everyone knows it's a giant turnoff to see bored or distracted women in scenes, yet companies keep putting these out. A sincere playful attitude throughout the scene keeps the vibe right. This can only be true if there's real chemistry between the stars and this can't be faked. Speaking of fake... 3. No fake moaning: A scene is enhanced by a few spontaneous squeals or grunts and a little dirty talk as opposed to what I call the "fire alarm" sounding off. Too many scenes for me have been weakened because she just kept making too much damn noise. Coached noise is even worse. 4. Ass oriented: Doesn't always have to be anal but healthy-looking women with ripe, juicy asses figuring prominently always bring up the heat. This scene had two incredible asses shot from every conceivable angle. Which leads to... 5. Intelligent camera: You can make up for some weak shooting with editing but there's nothing more frustrating than a camera that refuses to get in tight for a closeup at an opportune moment, or refuses to show the girls faces for reaction, or keeps missing important moments like insertions, or wont get a low angle because the shooter was too lazy to get on his knees for his craft. 6. Good-sized dick. Leads to fewer pop-outs which breaks up the pacing. Most women I know prefer bigger dicks. Not necessarily Mandingo-sized but bigger than average. So a bigger dick in the scene lends to the authenticity when the girl seems to be enjoying the ride. It also means the dude doesn't have to work as hard to please her. Helps if the guy ends with a strong pop. 7. Surprises: This scene ended with L.T's huge load spilled onto Pebble's ass crack, lapped up by Monet, then a sloppy cum swap between the girls. Nice! Thankfully it avoided the typical "pull out then wank it for two minutes until you blow on her tongue" scenario that still dominates porn. So all these elements combined to create one hell of a strong scene. Everything I like, nothing I don't. Please weigh in on these general observations because I probably missed a few!
One thing that makes a scene good for me as a viewer is seeing all the transitions. I like as few cuts as possible. A lot of communication takes place between the performers when they're switching positions, or moving from one piece of furniture to another. If the chemistry is good, this is when you'll most often witness it.

I favour tight edits myself. I think a lot of screen heat is lost when you get these elongated breaks in scenes and I think scenes tend to be too long in general these days.
To me, really good scenes are almost always a surprise. I think it's just the kind of thing you can't package and count on getting consistently. There are just too many different variables that go into a good scene. Like anything else, you're going to get a lot of junk along with the few real gems. You can't make good porn with a blueprint. It's not a house or a car. It's not even a "product". It's an organic, living thing (when it's good) that goes well above and beyond the sum of it's parts. It's something you can't point to any one thing and say "this is what makes this scene better than all the rest". Having said that, one aspect of porn that is egregiously overlooked is the quality of the male talent. I don't care how many viewers say they don't notice the males and don't care about them. You just can't make good male on female porn without quality male talent. They need to have a nice cock. They need to be good looking enough to get the girls turned on. And they need to be the kind of guys who look like someone who'd be fucking a hot girl. And they need to be able to perform sexually. There are only a handful of these guys in the entire industry as far as I know. This is what's holding a lot of porn back from being at least watchable. The male performers have, perhaps the toughest job in front of the camera. And too many people ignore the really good ones.

I think framing things so that the women look their best (eg. no blowjob from below shots, letting us see the womans face, avoiding prolonged close-ups of gentalia) and we can see the performers in relation to each other is very important. Editing/pacing in a scene has increasingly been lost over the years, probably because the directors figure you can just FF through the extended, repetitive shots but I think that just shows a lack of craft. Of course, some chemistry between the performers is the most important thing and so I agree with RP, in general the best scenes feature either Ferrara or Stefano because they project passion and the women react to it.

That just sounds like an excuse for directors to be lazy to me. It's not enough for them to just say "OK here's an hour's hardcore sex - I'm pretty sure there's a really hot 20 minutes in there, you go find it". The editing is a crucial part of their job as far as I'm concerned.
Very true that any single element, for example solid camera work, can't make up for a lack of heat between the performers, or unattractive talent. But I'm pretty sure that the lack of any of those elements will all but guarantee a weak scene. We've all seen scenes that look like the whole idea came together on a drunken fast food run and was shot by a grocery clerk with zero skills. Organic, yes. No blueprint, yes. But not worth watching! Not to belabor things but, Im thinking that without including some of those (to me) core pieces, a scene has no chance of rising to that organic thing you talked about.You expanded on my #6 with this and you're right dick size should be just part of the male talent criteria.
