I am conducting a field research on the question whether and how supply, performers' work itself and consumer behavior in the porn industry has changed as a result of the anti-discrimination debate and legislation regarding gender and race.

ADT is an important source of information with many relevant threads and posts. It is an adult forum with greater national / international importance due to existing contacts with the larger players in the film industry on the one hand, but also significant access rates by forum members and porn stars on the other hand.

Consider how the aforementioned debate and legislation influenced the way we talk about content and our favorite stars in this forum or the way the moderators intervene now and then and probably more often when discussions do not comply to the rules and policy of this forum, rules that might have changed significantly over the years (?). The discussions about IR or trans tag, Steve Holmes's refusal to work with Aubrey Kate, a policy / thread how to discuss transgender performers respectfully, an increase of lesbian / gay / transgender scenes, just to name a few topics and facts spontaneously.

I appreciate to hear your thoughts about the influence of the anti-discrimination debate on the porn industry and ADT too. What are your experiences? Do you expect further changes to come? Thank you in advance for your serious contributions

I formerly worked in the marketing and promotion side of gay and trans porn. Although there is some recency bias, I have never found the industry to discriminate against these performers. They were a niche, no different than BDSM, cosplay, etc, and everyone got a chance to flourish. I have found there are better safeguards for performers' health.

I have heard, from speaking with male performers, there is growing discrimination similar to Steve Holmes, where straight performers are being pressured into performing with trans performers, including threats to be "cancelled". I do not understand this. It's their body, their choice. I have girls who won't work with me because I'm too old, that's fine. There are girls who won't work with other girls because they don't get along. That's fine.

Porn as a business is poor at scaling, so niches get saturated quickly. The increase in trans porn is more likely companies chasing yields now that straight niches are saturated

As far as I remember, the concern with Steve Holmes was not only that he refused to work with Aubrey Kate but also the way he expressed his refusal (he gave an explanation about it) and mainly the fact that after the incident, he repeatedly called her "a dude" and "he/she" instead of "she", obviously refusing to acknowledge her as a girl, which sounds like transphobic behaviour.

I meant the jump to cancelling and peer pressure. Steve should've done some research on the model when he was contacted, and should've acted with more tact. Everyone was being a bit immature, which isn't unexpected given the industry.

Who's doing the threatening? Shady producers? Agents? I have a rough time buying that anyone can get canceled in the porn industry for not doing porn with trans performers. The same industry that doesn't cancel accused and known predators. Knocking around the girlfriend is A-Ok but you're gone if you don't perform in the next GenderX release?

Speaking as a moderator here for a long time, the rules here haven't really changed. The basic rule for interacting with members of the adult industry is:
Please do not talk about pornstars, directors or producers as if they are not here. (Katsumi sums it up nicely.) We are lucky to have industry participants, and they are paying attention to your constructive criticism. Insults will get you nowhere and lead to the deactivation of your forum account.
It has read that way for as long as I can remember. As the years have gone on, we've been forced more and more to define what isn't acceptable. I think we now give out more warnings per month for rude and unacceptable behavior than we used to in a year.
It appears as what were fringe in the industry (transgender scenes, gay and straight scenes in the same film) have become more mainstream and as people become more aware of crossover performers (they were always there but without the internet and resources of today it was harder to notice) that there is a contingent of members that are becoming ruder in their opposition to the change. Oddly, many of which had gone years, decades, without moderator intervention.
On the other hand, the moderator tools have advanced a lot over the last few years. So the question still remains were they always like that but because the moderator tools were more rudimentary we weren't aware of it, or have they become more hostile as anti-discrimination has evolved and therefore what was very niche is now far more mainstream?

Watched a recent interview clip with Rico Strong. He also said the adult industry is pushing men to do things.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRA2-SSeXBw

Says porn is one of the most racist industries in the world (this is generally well known) and that TPTB are allegedly even more bold now than in the past (used to hide racism, now tell you to your face)

Straight interracial with BBC and gay content apparently in the most demand. Easier to watch the entire clip but his argument was just because a director/producer tells him a co-worker he knows is doing something doesn't mean he is comfortable doing that. He's his own person.

is this for newspaper or school?
from when? in what market? mainstream? amateur? US? europe? do you have data that supports this?
where?
seems to me that people want to tear one set down to rise another set up.
my issue is that it specifies one sector as opposed to treat everyone respectfully. It seems to be over enforcement for a particular group.
I think most people only want to hear one side. Any other talk that goes against the narrative gets shut down.
they pick and choose who to "cancel"
mr marcus faked his test - cancelled
macana man faked his test - still shooting
How so? Did he explain how the industry en masse colluded to prevent him from being successful?

Be well

@Lenny Voyeur if you're still looking for more opinions there's Riley Reign. A while back she posted a message on OnlyFans saying she's had some issues with agents and agencies since (in her own words) she's BBC only (prefers scenes with black men) yet agents/agencies want her fucking white dick...

She's objectively attractive, all natural (which is important to some picky viewers) and should be booking more scenes for a newcomer IMO, so there's probably some truth to what she claimed. Best case scenario for her would be to eventually get popular enough and get signed as a contract star for one of the bigger IR sites.

You could just watch the video... Can still be successful even with obstacles. IRL plenty of ordinary people don't like working with one another but if they can make a lot of money anything else isn't as important.

^^ For university. My main focus is on transgender women (Kathoey) in Thailand. As they have a significant role in the sex industry ("ladyboys") this field research is part of my work on that topic.

^ I will check this one. Thank you.

And thank you for all the other contributions so far.

I would have thought that there is an improvement visible over the last decade, hence less racism and more gender tolerance. At least more consciousness regarding this issues.

Jiz Lee (they/them) might be someone you want to reach out to. They are a performer and also work at PinkLabel.TV. They've been adding more transgender content and can probably put you in touch with some transgender performers to talk to.

Is marketing language and final-product content (dialog, character and performer portrayal, etc) part of the scope of your research? That which the audience sees has certainly changed over recent years in alignment with the zeitgeist, not to mention sales volumes of various genres and niches.

Fascinating topic. I'm not going to be very articulate now.it's early and I'm still drinking my tea.but if you consider art as something that reflects culture and that also effects culture or drives change, then in recent years I'd argue that the emphasis is on the latter: how artistic expression can effect societal change. It's commodified and put to very good use by PR companies in that respect, and audiences react or judge art (or cancel it) with regard to what societal changes they perceive it drives.

Porn is somewhat insulated from that trend. It has greater licence to represent culture as it is rather than as what some believe it should be. It has permission to represent fantasy-actual, current, personal fantasies that people today hold-not simply mythical Middle Earth or comic book worlds. It has permission to represent everyday speech and slang and attitudes, regardless (to an extent) of moral objection. Stuff like that. And it's still somewhat under the radar. There's an immediacy and privacy to enjoying porn that is unique compared to other types of expressions.

In this, I think porn-like most other expressions-will bend to the zeitgeist, but by virtue of what it is it will always be somewhat insulated.

I did watch the video as well as all the other "porn is racist" podcasts randall, tt boy etc. which is why these accusations have no merit. If they still worked in porn, got successful and worked around people who don't like them, the argument is moot, it's a non issue. You can't force anyone to like you. These interview name titles give the impression they can't find any work due to racial discrimination by all the companies who make porn. Porn isn't like NFL, there is no central body that rules porn companies. A performer can't just say the industry is racist, because the "industry" is just hundreds if not thousands of individuals & companies worldwide engaging the business of pornography, they have to drop specific names. I suggest you read kelli roberts' article on this. I do agree that some companies in California (not just porn) may have violated discrimination laws in terms of giving preferential treatment to some workers/performers in an effort to prove they're not racist.

There's more pressing issues affecting the industry right now such as massive piracy, free tube sites, unlicensed agents, performers not disclosing their HIV status to their co-star (which is illegal in some states), customers getting ripped off for customs, overpricing of content, outright fraud, lack of optical disc releases, credit card banging, download restrictions, pre checked cross sales, performers not getting paid (content trade), agents sending their artists to other states/countries to shoot.

Be well

Since one my main ingredients of good porn / porn sites is variety , I´ll write some lines about that .
My fav models are mostly exotic , though I also have my good share of Blonde and other White favs , but these would not exceed 15-20 % of my overall stats .

There are some older threads at ADT where it is explained how Black ladies got much less scenes than White ones and got less remuneration . ( in the 80´s maybe )
Don´t remember if the same was true for Latinas and Asians . Maybe not .
What I do remember how ever that roughly 10-15 years ago there were some famous Asian supermodels who were at the top of the biz .
After this peaking it seemed that studios hired the Asian models less than before . Some user comments at ADT model threads do reflect that and express dissatisfaction about this fact ...

I have been quite active at the internal forums of LoveherFeet and Analvids ( Leg... ) and together with some other users have tried that the producers bring more variety :
It seems to have worked to some extent at AV ( some Lat American studios , some Asian Russian models from the Russian studios ) , yet from time to time it becomes clear that some producers prefer White models to the other ones even though a huge demand for Exotic models exists among the fanbase .
This can even extend to the Romani ( Gyp.. ) models from East Eur , who are regularly requested but do not get enough scenes .

At LHF , I could see the time periods when the producers took the requests seriously and brought more variety to his repertoire : There were a few 2-3 week periods when they succumbed to the pressure and there seemed to exist a good balance . After that they got back to his routine of having 60-80 % White models .
Quite drastic is their unwillingness to hire more Asians ( have written in the LHF thread at ADT ) , which represent the smallest percentage .
Yes I have done a rough approximation of the % ... , and I have compared it with the Asian % of other American sites : It´s so low it hurts .
Well , I can not find another explanation than very low willingness to hire Asians at LHF , even though there are many requests at the internal forum .
Also considering the fact that Alexia Anders , Ember Snow and Vina Sky have some of the best-selling scenes .
Ok , I went back to rough counting : 12 Asian scenes in more than 4 years ! And 3 of them by Vina Sky ( One of them a duo with Vanna Bardot )
Trying to be careful with words : maybe bias is justified ?

^ I don't have any specific ethnic preferences or fetishes, but have you checked whether the number of talent available by ethnicity correlates with the number of scenes by ethnicity? Might be a plausible explanation for what you described.

It seems kind of hilarious to use someone who openly discriminates against the male talent she works with as a victim of the industry discrimination. Especially when her "preference" comes across as blatant self-hating racism. I know there are a few porn stars who don't shoot with black men but how many of them have made it a point to brand themselves as hating black guys? Moriah Mills' Pornhub account doesn't have "Non-white men" in the "Turn offs" list. Riley lists "white men" in hers. Studios and agents have dropped people for less in the past.

^^

As I have outlined on the LHF thread , some highly requested models have been hired for their sister sites , much to grievance of the forum members who have built up the original site during years ....
Has happened with Kimmy Kimm , Numi Zarah ( Asians ) and many other models .
That´s one factor . It doesn´t reveal a bias in THIS case but it might be a contributing factor why the Asian % is so low at LHF .

Another factor is that I have observed many Asian ( + other Exotic ) models at Twitter being open to foot scenes , and they have been tagged by me or other users for that site yet nothing has happened . ( going on for years )

^^ interesting statistics.

I haven't realised a lack of Asians so far. I would appreciate to see more actresses for sure. But actually, when you watch JAV you find mainly Asian performers, hence the fewer numbers of Asians in European and US productions could have other reasons than discimination (?)

Searching for a Daisy Taylor scene I realized that it's hard to find any topics about Transgender stars in the Star Crossed forum.

I've noticed something about two similar cases and I would like your opinion on that

Riley Reigns : white girl, wants to only shoot with black guys ------> 90% of the reactions : "Wonderful' "Way to go girl" "Fantastic"

Anya Ivy : mixed girl ( so not exactly totally black ), wanted to only shoot and only shot with white guys ------> 90% of the reactions : "How dare she" "Racist against her own kin" "It's a shame" "I'm unwatching her"

^The percentages might be hyperbole, but I've seen that reaction commonly in many places with regards to Anya
