Hi there, I just stumbled over this forum and thought it was quite nice :-) I'm happy to hear quite some good news about AdultDVDnow shipping quite reliably even to the UK. Since I'm living in Germany I'd like to know how shipments to Germany are handled and how many are successful. My problem : A few days ago I ordered some DVDs from AdultDVDnow. I guess it were 5 + one bonus DVD. It was my first DVD-order ever, and until now I never thought about custom, but now I'm starting to worry. After having received the confirmation mail I heard that it was more secure to order only about 4 DVDs. I'm a bit afraid now the DVDs won't make it to me. Any hints or experiences are appreciated. btw: In the forum I read something about AdultDVDnow's low price guarantee and about beeing $1 cheaper than the rest. What does it mean, since most of the titles I compared were lots cheaper at DVDadvantage. For the first order I preferred DVDnow, though, since my first impression of it was that it seemed more reliable.

Although we still cannot guarantee shipping to our International Customers, we have experienced great success shipping through UK Customs (who handles Germany's customs as well I believe) in the last 2 months. Here in Germany you get used to writing lots of letters and mails and calling the companies without getting replies for weeks. Hi spesedy, I have been using AdultDVDNow for the last year now and can honestly say they offer an excellent service to international customers. I have been lucky with my orders so far with no losses. As Frank has mentioned I always keep my orders small i.e. 2-3 discs It is re-assuring to know that a company monitors the success rate of shipping to countries with strict Customs laws. Don't know what the German postal service is like but on average my orders have arrived in the UK within 3-5 working days of mailing. Hope you receive your order safely and yes the low price guarantee does work, used it many times myself.

The general consensus for transit to Germany is an average of 7 business days. I am pretty sure that a package destined for Germany, going through the UK customs (in transit), the UK laws don't apply to the package, so if the contents of the package isn't forbidden by German law the UK customs can't seize it. Hi spesedy, Since I live in the Netherlands (hey, we're practically neighbours ;-)) I guess my experiences shouldn't be that different from yours. Here in the Netherlands our laws on adult related content are very easy and relaxed and afaik Germany isn't that different. The total time shipping will take also will approximately be the same if you order something in the States. My experiences are that packages through standard mail take about 7 to 10 days to arrive. I ordered this way from Excalibur and Gamelink. I also had dvd's delivered to me by special carrier services. My favourite carrier is FedEx (one of the stores which use this is AdultDVDEmpire). My experiences with DHL weren't that good since they held my order for like 10 days because I had to pay taxes for it. They never notified me about this and after a few phonecalls I finally got my package. I don't know if this is a common practice but next time I'll stick to FedEx which takes normally 3 days (last time even 2 days!). Using these carriers internationally is expensive but in return you have a very short delivery time, package tracking (really, really handy!) and often your package is insured. I'm not sure how the customs work here in the Netherlands or Germany but in my case I didn't have to pay taxes over small orders (1-3 dvd's or tapes). I'm also pretty sure that using for example FedEx means you have a greater risk of paying taxes. I can't back this up but from my experiences there were times when I had to pay tax over only 2 dvds while this never happened through standard mail. A little piece of advice, if you order large (like >5 dvd's), consider using a special carrier. Large (expensive) orders are insured. The costs of shipping through the carriers differs but in almost every case you have a base price of $25 to $30 and $2-$3 per dvd. Spreading the base price over a larger quantity of dvd's make it more attractive to use a special carrier. If I were you I wouldn't worry. I'm sure your package will arrive and not be seized. You probably have to pay taxes but will receive a bill sometime after you received your order. ps. Maybe a bit off topic but I'd like to mention to the people who hang out here that unfortunately there aren't that many American adult dvd titles available here in Holland (or Europe), let alone a good adult dvd retailer. A shame since a good quantity of movies is available on vhs in most adult shops but I don't like vhs anymore Are adult dvd's widely available in adult shops (not online) in the States or do they also have like 30 titles? spesedy, have fun and please share your future experiences.
Hi Coltrane, Great to hear some experiences from a 'neighbour' I actually thought this thread to be over and uninteresting for most of the people here, so I didn't keep you people up to date with the fate of my package But now since you're asking : My package arrived safely two days ago which made me very happy. It wasn't a long time after ordering. I really thought shipping from the US would take around 2 weeks, and I also made some earlier experience with an order (of another type) that took almost a year to arrive here, so I had some fears The only thing I was not that happy about was the fact, that the discs have some small scratches on it, which I guess isn't that bad since I've got many old music CDs which look much worse and still work without any problem. These 'scratches' (can't even really call 'em that way) are really very thin and not deep, so everything should be ok with the discs (believe it or not, I didn't have the time to try them yet ) Reminds me a bit of a spoon after eating lots of Spaghetti and rolling them up on the spoon with a fork. Then you also get those thin, fine lines on the spoon. Ahem... Well, I hope you know what I mean Another thing that made me worry is that the envelope was simply 'stuffed' half into my postbox with the other half hanging out of it. This is a wide-spread practice here and is in no way ment to be criticism against DVDNow who , imho, did a great job and offered a great service. I just get a bit angry about these guys stuffing that package in without worrying (sometimes they even try to fold it!) and making it accessible to everbody walking by. I had liked our postal company to ring at my door and deliver it directly, or, in case wasn't there, put one of these cards in my box telling me to get the package at the main postal office. Until now I didn't get anything about taxes. On the envelope there was a remark stamped on it which said the package was freed from being object to custom. And beneath the place of the according custom could be read. It was our German custom here at the Frankfurt Airport, so I don't think UK custom had anything to do with it (couldn't think of a reason why it should, btw.). As with that FedEx thing : Since I read some posts regarding lots of FedEx-Packages being confiscated in the UK I don't trust them anymore. Btw: Concerning our laws : It's legal to possess porn here. That's no problem. And even in a usual Video-renting store you can rent at least 50 xxx DVDs and lots of mainstream. So I thought it would be no problem to order some DVDs from the US. But after ordering I got to know that importing XXX-Stuff to Germany is forbidden by law. Even in Germany itself it's forbidden to send this stuff by mail. You can only get it personally in special shops. The authorities say that's because of youth protection. When sending this stuff by mail you can't be sure that the one who ordered it or the one who will receive it is over 18 years of age, so even in our biggest and most famous adult-mail-order shops you can only get R-rated films. I personally hate those laws since they're very hard to handle and understand, and I don't know why it should be restricted by laws. I was very astonished when I read about UTAH and other states here on the board. At least here in Germany it would be impossible to forbid certain sexual practices or possessing porn. But even our laws make it sometimes very difficult for themselves. Once there happened a story when a boy and a girl who were both well under 18 years old happened to have sex and taped it with a videocamera. Then the authorities had a big quarrel about it and since it's not forbidden for minor-aged to have sex if they're about the same age and if it's consensous, they discussed if they had just produced childporn (which is of course forbidden), and if it was forbidden to them to watch their own video since porn - and especially child-porn - could damage their development. They even discussed the possibility of the two kids to copy and sell their video which of course would be forbidden again. In the end the video was confiscated. There you can see how weird and restrictive our laws can be. Don't want to know how the same process would have ended in the US though. Concerning the last paragraph of your post : I would certainly like to be able to order from not US-Companies as well. There are many good companies here in Germany and in the Netherlands as well, but it's painful to get the products. I would like an easy way of getting some DVDs from the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark or other European countries, and I heard that also many Americans would love to get a hold on these. Unfortunately in the US you seem to only be able to order vids from the many US-Studios. Maybe this could be an idea for you sellers like AdultDVDNow to start carrying titles from more foreign studios. Don't actually know if and how this is possible and if not what the reasons are. Maybe you can give some feedback on this.

I would be devastated too for my order to travel half way across the world and then have the postman fold it into a neat size to fit through your door or to have it stolen because it didn't quite fit through the letterbox even though he almost kicked your door down trying. I have to agree that Europe is way behind the US in DVD production and retail. Although American titles are available in Europe there is a very limited selection and prices can be twice that of US retailers. Although a Canadian company they distribute within the EU. The package arrived with a postmark from the Netherlands, Rotterdam to be precise and took 2 days from posting. It included all the original packaging but the disc somehow fell off the hub and was rattling around, fortunately it was undamaged. I would like to see more European companies other than Private releasing titles onto DVD but I guess it would have to be cost effective and aimed at the bigger US market. So material with fisting, pissing etc. will remain on VHS. What other European companies have DVD releases?
Hi charlie, you're right regarding the high prices for DVDs in Europe. I've seen movies for $40 or $50 which are available from our well-known US-Sellers for $20 or less which is quite a shame in my opinion. You wrote that your DVD-order contained the whole packaging. I wonder if it had contained the boxes if you had ordered more than one dvd. On one hand I'm happy that I didn't get the boxes shipped with my order, so it was more unlikely for my package to get confiscated. On the other hand I now have to get some amaray boxes myself in order to store the Discs properly. I still havent't found cheap amaray-boxes on the web. I don't want to pay $2 for an empty box making the film more expensive at the end. I'd really like the films to be cheaper one or two bucks when the boxes don't get shipped with them, so you can buy some empty boxes later on and have the complete film with complete packaging for the price it was meant to be. Just an idea. Don't want to step on any of the retailers' feet . Concerning the European companies which produce DVDs: In fact there are already lots of. For example here in Germany two of the biggest companies come to my mind. These are 'MMV' (Multi Media Verlag) and 'Magma' (a very famous label). I'm sure there are lots more, I just have to think about it for another while I'm sure there are many more in other European countries, but I don't know right now. As far as I know most of the 'Magma'-Films also have English and French audio-Streams in addition to the German one. I've never seen an American title with a German audio stream yet When other DVD-releasing companies come to my mind I might write them onto the board. Maybe some of you people also have got some additions. Just remembered another big German company : It's called Videorama. There's also one studio which is called Akrys Films or something like this. Hi Spesedy, I think DVDBoxoffice ship discs individually regardless of the order size. They do for mainstream films because we have to pay tax and duty for orders over a certain value. I also use CD jewel cases which take up less space. Thanks for the info on European companies that produce DVD's. Seen a lot from them on VHS but I will keep an eye open for their DVD's. Is there a site that reviews them? I hope GGG in Germany release some of their titles on disc.

I actually hoped for some of the retailers to join the discussion, but it seems they're not interested or don't know an easy way to add foreign dvd-companies to their offers. On the other hand I'd have been interested in their opinion concerning a small price-decrease when not shipping the amaray-boxes with the films. I know that some of you retailers already are quite cheap, but I guess people in the US get the Amarays shipped with the films (?). International orders cost the same (at least the films), although the boxes might not be shipped with the films, so the customers have to buy it separately, though it's usually included in the price they have already payed. I really don't want to annoy the retailers, just would love to hear some opinions concerning that point, since I think my point of view is justified. I'm actually not aware of real reviews concerning these companies' DVDs, but you might want to enter some of their names into a search-engine which, most of the time, will take you to some sites with some covers and short descriptions about some of the films. Lately I realized that there are certainly lots more companies here producing DVDs. I can't remember them at the moment, but you'll certainly get to their names when using the search-engine-method by typing in some of the known ones I already posted. I'd love to see the GGG-Films appear on video as well. They're certainly great for all cum-lovers, but I'm not sure when/if that will happen. There's a site called ggg-video.de, but it always says it's under construction and nothing's there yet. Don't even know if that's the company's site. I would also love to see some of the original Bukkake-Series from the company 'Shuttle' in Japan. I personally have accepted paying the extra shipping charges because there is little alternative for me. But it only becomes economical if there is more that one disc per order so the costs can be shared. I recently experimented with two single orders from different companies, one US the other Canadian using regular airmail no special packaging. The Canadian order was dispatched from the Netherlands strangely and arrived safely within a week. The US order was dispatched 8/22 and has yet to arrive, I fear that it has either been lost or confiscated. So a mixed experience. I dream of seeing GGG on DVD the girls are natural and are absolutely gorgeous, but it is very difficult to find any infomation on this company. i.e. release dates, future plans etc. they have quite a big list of titles on VHS but I only buy DVD's now. There are only 4 DVD's available on the Shuttle site and these are compilations. $58 for 60mins!! I would like it uncensored for that price. Regards
