The "test" or "proof" is a DVD cover in that niche featuring the new girl that also has the established star relegated to an "also starring" credit on the cover and her picture on the back. To make up an example, if "Anal MILFs" 3 thru 8 all had Lisa Ann on the cover, and "Anal MILFs 9" came out also starring Lisa Ann but now with Ava Devine on the cover, that would be some evidence that Ava was challenging Lisa for Queen of MILF's.
