jamesn Senior Member Cambridge, MA 750 Posts 1/04	Posted - Dec 15 2004 : 4:53PM media player classic it's probably the most flexible in terms of choosing filters, etc. and you don't need to install it, just unzip and go without filling your registry with junk if you don't like it. you can get it to play pretty much anything out of the box but it might be worth it hunting down quicktime alternative and real alternative if you ever use them. jamesn Senior Member Cambridge, MA 750 Posts 1/04	Posted - Jan 7 2005 : 7:46AM codec packs are generally a bad idea, you should be fine with the latest directx and wmv9, xvid or ffdshow. media player classic's ac3 decoder is solid and if you end up needing a filter or something later-install it by itself. unless you've got major deficiencies the codec packs have a "dumb" installation that might leave you with conflicts and you're definetly going to end up with sub-optimal meriting of decoders. I also like it because you can play all those wird downloaded files. Like files made with German camcorders and shit like that. No problem!! [Link]
